Chapter Sixty-Nine: An NPC Seeks Assistance
Unable to win, Xiao Zhang immediately grabbed Mo Xiaoxiao, picked up Tu Shanbai, and turned to flee, with Zhao Bai and the others close behind. Lia, though tempted to return and deal a blow to that fellow, thought better of it and chose to follow Xiao Zhang’s group instead.
Thus, Xiao Zhang led everyone back to the Treasure Pavilion where they had hidden before; after all, hiding was the wisest course right now. As for Qi Guan, they’d wait until the BOSS was weakened before considering whether to attempt a rescue.
“Hurry inside!”
Recalling the system’s safe house, Xiao Zhang saw no other options. He rushed the group into the jewelry hall. As everyone poured inside, Xiao Zhang quickly dragged over a stone stool to block the entrance, and they all clustered at the door, poised and alert. Only then did Xiao Zhang let out a sigh of relief.
But then, he turned to look at everyone and his expression suddenly changed. “Where’s Lia?”
Zhao Bai and Marcus were both stunned. Zhao Bai looked up at Xiao Zhang. After the system recovered, Charlie had taken some medicine, and his palm seemed to be healing.
“I remember seeing her right as we were running in,” Zhao Tai recalled, hesitating as he spoke.
“And then?” Xiao Zhang pressed, his brows furrowed.
“Then… I didn’t pay attention. We were all panicked, so many people… I really didn’t notice,” Zhao Bai admitted, feeling guilty.
“It’s not your fault,” Xiao Zhang comforted him with a bitter smile. “I didn’t notice either. Where could she have gone?”
On the square, the little white dragon was already locked in a fierce battle!
The nine-headed serpent wanted to help but was held back by Yorick’s two henchmen.
Qi Guanbei, dressed in imperial robes, simply sat on the dragon throne, watching quietly. “If you’re willing to admit your mistake now, rebellious child, I can spare your life and even find you a body to leave this prison.”
The little white dragon glanced at Qi Guanbei, sneered, and ignored him.
Qi Guanbei also sneered, “Yorick, is it? Kill him, and I’ll let you choose two divine weapons from my palace!”
At that moment, the nine-headed serpent used the last of its strength to blow up one of its own heads, leaving only two. Gathering its remaining energy, it unleashed a beam at the woman of blades and the long-tongued man.
Unable to dodge, the woman of blades was obliterated by the beam, and the long-tongued man escaped the blast at the cost of an arm.
Yorick clenched his fists with fury—damn it, that skill was meant for the BOSS! He shoved his hands forward, then hooked upward.

Before him, a tombstone over a meter tall appeared, and in the next instant, it exploded. Four mist walkers crawled out from its shattered remains.
The mist walkers resembled ghosts, but there was something different about them. Their two-meter-tall figures were shrouded in black robes, their faces hidden in shadow, with only two green flames flickering where their eyes should have been.
One among them was noticeably smaller than the others.
Nearby, Lia crouched, her eyes narrowed with a smile as she watched Yorick in the plaza, the corners of her mouth curling into a subtle arc. “Hmm... an A-level summoning skill? Oh, there’s more?”
Dark spirits clung to Yorick as he let out a strange, long howl, his body swiftly levitating!
With a flick of his finger, the smaller mist walker let out a joyful cry, leaped, and merged into Yorick’s body…
In that instant, a blaze of green fire shimmered on Yorick’s form, brilliant and fleeting!
Looking again, Yorick had undergone a tremendous transformation.
He had become the Shepherd of Souls, clad in a long black robe, muscular arms exposed, green ghost flames flickering atop his shoulders.
Yorick’s features had vanished, replaced by a lifeless visage!
He now hovered above the ground, his legs beneath the robe transformed into swirling green light.
In his right hand, he wielded a massive gravedigger’s iron shovel, its handle adorned with a green skull.
Suddenly, the skull flared with a brilliant green glow!
A beam of green light burst forth from the shovel, shooting directly at the little white dragon!
The white dragon’s body was pierced through in an instant, and the three mist walkers charged at him like madmen.
Lia, eyes narrowed, watched Qi Guanbei, seemingly considering whether to intervene.
“Go, go, go, my darlings! Kill that little one and the mission is complete!!”
Yorick laughed, floating as he rushed at the little white dragon.
Beside them, the nine-headed serpent, gritting its teeth, made a decision. It blew up its last two heads, sacrificing itself to send the little white dragon to safety.

Then Yorick, like a meteor, shot forward!
Bang! His body slammed hard into the ground.
Even the green flames enveloping him seemed to flicker and dim instantly!
Inside the jewelry hall, everyone waited anxiously. Xiao Zhang’s brow was tightly knit as he nervously glanced at the system countdown, the numbers ticking rapidly.
Just then, the little white dragon, shrouded in green smoke, burst in.
Everyone immediately drew their weapons, but the white dragon, seeing Xiao Zhang, spoke directly, “If you want to save your companion, then cooperate with me! Together we must slay Bai Long.”
Xiao Zhang signaled the others to lower their weapons and stepped forward to negotiate with the little white dragon.
...
Those inside began to discuss amongst themselves.
“Perhaps we should simply stay here,” Charlie whispered. “If we hold out until time’s up, our mission counts as complete.”
The others agreed.
But Marcus sneered coldly, “If only it were so simple. The system will never let us loaf through so easily.”
“I don’t think it’s that simple either,” Zhao Tai frowned. “Staying in this dragon palace feels too dangerous. My gut tells me we need to leave at least the palace. And it seems Yorick’s made some deal with the BOSS—maybe he wants to kill all the players…”
“That’s very likely,” Marcus sighed. “I once went through a dungeon in a pharaoh’s tomb. The mission was to prevent an ancient pharaoh from awakening. Many skilled players entered. I wasn’t strong enough, so I got stuck in a side chamber, beset by mummies. Thanks to a defensive item I’d acquired by chance, I barely survived to the end.
My former captain, a capable player, managed to get into the main tomb, along with several others.
They failed to stop the pharaoh’s awakening, and in the final stage, nearly all were killed by the pharaoh.
I survived only because I never entered the main tomb.”
