Soon, more and more skeleton soldiers surged forward, completely submerging that guy...

“Damn, they’re coming! If all those things spit at me, I’ll drown in their drool!”

“Relax. With your thick skin and tough hide, they could pound away for ten thousand years and never break through!” Mo Kuang muttered.

Just then, the entire platform lit up, and a rustling sound drifted down from above the two of them.

“Something’s coming down from above!” Mo Kuang was halfway through his sentence when his expression changed dramatically.

Suddenly, countless blobs of viscous liquid began to drip from above. Xiao Zhang couldn’t dodge in time, and one landed directly on him—a clump of red, sticky substance, as thick as a chunk of flesh.

“Shit!” The hunk of flesh stuck to Xiao Zhang seemed to come alive, spreading rapidly across his body.

“Holy Light!” Mo Kuang hurled a massive cross, sending Xiao Zhang and the clump of flesh flying.

With a crash, Xiao Zhang smashed straight through a stone pillar.

The bloody mass slid from Xiao Zhang’s body and slowly took the shape of a rat. Its head resembled that of a skeleton soldier, and its body twisted bizarrely, boneless and sinewy. Suddenly, it shot out a long tongue, lashing toward them!

“There’s actually monsters like this?!” Mo Kuang swung his cross, summoning a hexagonal ring of light that instantly shielded him.

Xiao Zhang had just gotten up when he saw a red tongue whipping toward him. “Fuck!”

Mo Kuang cursed inwardly; there was no time to think. He smashed a Holy Light cross at the rat, reducing it to ash before it could even utter a sound. “What are you standing around for? Get over here!”

He barely had time to stand before more of those monsters pounced. Mo Kuang, too, was quickly surrounded by a pack of them.

But the tremendous force sent Xiao Zhang flying again.

This time, Xiao Zhang’s head smashed through another pillar, and his skull buzzed with the impact!

By now, the blood rat had already charged at him. As it sprinted, its head split in two, forming a gaping, bloody maw lunging for him.

This time, Xiao Zhang didn’t give it a chance. He dodged to the side and swung his wrench at its head!

With a sickening splat, the rat’s skull exploded, and it collapsed, motionless.

That was it? Xiao Zhang could hardly believe it.

Just then, the other blood rats began to retreat. Xiao Zhang was about to give chase, but Mo Kuang called him back.

“Forget it! Deal with those skeleton soldiers first! Here they come!”

Mo Kuang raised his cross, hurling a Holy Light orb that blasted the oncoming wave of skeletons to dust.

Xiao Zhang was stunned. This skill was beyond overpowered!

Cleaning up small fry with this was almost too satisfying. The skeletons at the front were wiped out in a few shots, but there was still a dense horde behind them.

Mo Kuang, casting Holy Light orbs, looked graver by the second. “This won’t do! If this keeps up, we’ll be overwhelmed. And we took the wrong path—we have to go back!”

“Then let’s break through!” Xiao Zhang prepared to charge into the army of skeletons.

“Are you crazy? How thick do you think your hide is? Didn’t you see how those guys died earlier?”

Just then, a system prompt echoed from above. “Hidden dungeon unlocked. Players, prepare yourselves!”

“So how do we get back?”

“Xiao Zhang, cover me! I’ll cast a big skill to clear them!”

“Got it.” Xiao Zhang wielded his wrench, dispatching the stragglers who had made it through. The little skeletons who had shown off in front of those loners were nothing here—each one went down with a single swing.

Mo Kuang raised her cross, charging up another Holy Light orb. As the orb grew larger and the skeleton horde drew closer, she hurled it, tossing a small, pitch-black device into the orb as well.

“Mo Mo, hurry! There are too many—I can’t clear them all!”

“Get ready to run!” Mo Kuang shouted—

Boom!

A massive Holy Light orb crashed into the skeleton horde, erupting in a violent shockwave that turned scores of skeletons to dust.

Then came the second explosion... the third...

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Giant fireballs and shockwaves swept through like a hurricane!

Though Xiao Zhang heeded Mo Kuang’s warning and grabbed her to clear a path, the blast wave still caught up, sending them both tumbling.

Mo Kuang landed, rolling and springing to her feet.

Xiao Zhang, however, slammed his head into yet another pillar, which split apart on impact. This time, not only did his head buzz, but blood blurred his vision.

While he was still reeling, Mo Kuang couldn’t bring herself to leave him behind. She stowed her cross, grabbed Xiao Zhang, slung him over her shoulder, and took off running.

Above them, a rumble like distant thunder echoed, and dust rained from the ceiling as the entire hall began to tremble...

“Shit, the place is coming down!”

Crash!

Huge chunks of stone plummeted from above.

The collapse triggered a chain reaction; more pillars shattered, toppled, and the destruction spread rapidly!

Mo Kuang sprinted at full speed, Xiao Zhang dangling from her grasp.

Behind them, the collapse spread, stones falling so closely they seemed to chase right at their heels...

At last—

A whirlwind of dust and debris swept over them. Mo Kuang flung Xiao Zhang out the great door, then dove after him herself!

Boom!!

A massive stone slab crashed down, then another and another, sealing the door in an instant!

“Boss defeated. Mission ending soon.”

Everyone inside the hidden dungeon was stunned. They hadn’t even found the resources yet! Who the hell killed the boss?

Liliya, bloodied from head to toe, glared at the ghostly lantern before her. “Hmph. From now on, Dreamgarden and Shadow Isle are sworn enemies.”

“Fine. There’s going to be an all-out war anyway. Give your leader a message from me.”

“Send it to your mother!” Liliya’s figure vanished from the dungeon.

Xiao Zhang stared at the prompt in front of him. “Mo Mo, did you just blow up the boss?”

“No way! I just slipped a little bomb into the Holy Light orb—I had no idea it would be that powerful!” Mo Kuang thumped her own forehead in frustration. “We’re screwed. We didn’t even complete the hidden quest!”
