Chapter Seventeen: Farewell, Mo Kuang
“Zombie? Damn it! Then you can’t use mine.” Zhao Tai shook his head. “Dog Bro, you’ll have to use your own points to exchange.”
Points?
Exchange?
Xiao Zhang noticed yet another difference between himself and Zhao Tai!
If points refer to enhancement points, then it’s probably not that. As for the exchange system, Xiao Zhang realized his own system interface didn’t even have such a feature!
He could only sigh—he had thought the gap between himself and those real players was already significant... but now, it turned out he was unique among everyone.
What the hell was he supposed to do now? He couldn’t let Little Zombie Bai starve to death.
Thinking it over, Xiao Zhang figured: Old Tang’s things are my things, my things are still my things, so Old Tang’s brother is also my brother. “Tai! I spent all my points on medicine, I’m out. Could you lend me some?”
“Dog Bro, no need to talk about borrowing. Zombie, right?” Zhao Tai didn’t think much, immediately trying to redeem something from his system. After scanning through it, he cursed, “Damn! There’s nothing for zombies!”
Xiao Zhang summoned Little Zombie Bai, watching the little thing, now so hungry it was barely holding on. Xiao Zhang felt a pang of pity. “What exactly does it eat?”
Zhao Tai eyed the tiny zombie curiously. “So this actually exists? Dog Bro, I thought you were just making up a story to scam my points!”
“Damn you!” Xiao Zhang pulled out a wrench. “Do I look like someone who freeloads?”
Pressed by Xiao Zhang’s intimidating manner, Zhao Tai relented, “Of course not! Dog Bro, let’s figure out what your pet eats. Look at those big dark circles under its eyes, it’s about done for!”
Zhao Tai took out a bone and offered it to Little Zombie Bai. “Hey, how about a bone?”
Little Zombie Bai glanced at it, ignored Zhao Tai entirely.
Xiao Zhang and Zhao Tai tried exchanging every type of pet food in the system, but the little zombie seemed uninterested in anything.
“Dog Bro, maybe it doesn’t eat pet food at all!”
Xiao Zhang scratched his head. Not pet food? Its spirit was poor—could it need medicine? Thinking carefully, he realized it seemed mentally unwell, so he took out a mental recovery potion.
Suddenly, Little Zombie Bai perked up. “You want this?” Xiao Zhang asked.
Little Zombie Bai nodded eagerly, making a squeaky sound.
“Why do you sound like a little mouse?” Xiao Zhang let him drink, then tossed him back into the system warehouse. He glanced at Zhao Tai, whose eyes were wide as saucers. “Tai! Your eyeballs are about to fall out!”
Zhao Tai swallowed hard, finally finding his voice. “Dog Bro, what was that thing?”
Xiao Zhang looked at the dazed Zhao Tai, debating whether to tell him. “It’s just a recovery potion, nothing special.”
Zhao Tai wanted to ask more about this “recovery potion”—it didn’t seem ordinary at all.
Seeing Zhao Tai’s expression, Xiao Zhang remembered what Mo Kuang had said earlier, so he quietly took out a bottle and handed it to Zhao Tai, whispering, “It’s the last one, take it.”
Zhao Tai stared at the bottle in his hand, stunned.
“What are you waiting for?” Xiao Zhang gave him a gentle slap.
“No, no, this is too expensive!”
“Just take it!”
Left with no choice, Zhao Tai put it away. “Dog Bro, this is too much!”
“Too much, my ass!” Xiao Zhang waved dismissively. “When you were ripping off those old-timers for hundreds of billions in that toxic MMO, you never complained about things being expensive!”
Seeing Zhao Tai about to protest, Xiao Zhang cut him off, “Don’t whine. Just call it payback for all the pet food you bought.”
Zhao Tai couldn’t help but add, “Dog Bro, but this restores mana!”
“Mana restore?” Xiao Zhang thought for a moment. He had no use for it—he didn’t even have a skill bar. “Yeah, it restores mana!”
“Tai! It’s no use to me.”
“How could that be, Dog Bro!”
“Damn it! I don’t have a mana bar, why would I need a mana potion?”
Zhao Tai: (•_•)
Xiao Zhang had wanted to ask more questions, but given where they were, it wasn’t convenient. Besides, Zhao Tai was so stunned by the medicine that Xiao Zhang simply waved him off.
“All right, Dog Bro, get some rest. Tomorrow we might start the dungeon missions.” Zhao Tai spoke quietly, “Rest up, let’s grab as much as we can!”
Dungeon missions!
The phrase caught Xiao Zhang off guard.
Clearly, Zhao Tai knew exactly what a dungeon mission was.
But Xiao Zhang’s own system didn’t even have that feature!
Another difference! Just how much was he missing? With that question lingering, Xiao Zhang closed his eyes—he truly was exhausted after these past days.
…
At dawn, Xiao Zhang woke up. His enhanced constitution was clearly far superior to an ordinary person, and though he’d only slept a few hours, he felt fully recovered.
Looking around, he saw everyone else already busy. The other trainees were all preparing for the day.
In the distance, other teams could be seen getting ready—people preparing weapons and gear, all sorts of strange swords and cold arms laid out. Some had bizarre firearms, things that looked like rocket launchers, even armor-like suits.
Suddenly, a shrill voice rang out.
“Mo De, look what I found!”
A man with a bushy beard dragged a huge box, striding toward the group.
“Dog Bro, that guy’s called Mouse. Be careful—he’s not part of our organization, and while he seems the most honest in the squad, he’s actually the most cunning and ruthless. I’ve been tricked by him more than once. Mo De is rough, but just has a bad temper. But this one… just watch out.”
Zhao Tai stood beside Xiao Zhang, lowering his voice in warning.
“Got it, I’ll be careful.”
Just then, Zhao Tai’s communicator buzzed, Mo De’s voice coming through. “Zhao Tai, come see the captain. He needs to assign you a task.”
“Roger.”
Xiao Zhang asked, “So what should I do?”
Zhao Tai shrugged—he had no idea.
Right then, Xiao Zhang’s own communicator buzzed with Mo De’s voice. “Xiao Zhang, come see me.”
When he arrived, Xiao Zhang felt his anger flare—he saw Mo Kuang lying in the box, covered in blood. Xiao Zhang had expected to meet Mo Kuang again, but not like this.
Mouse dragged Mo Kuang out of the box and tossed him onto the ground. “Caught a big one this time!”
Seeing this, Xiao Zhang felt a surge of hot blood rush to his head. Before he could react, Zhao Tai had already finished his assignment and quietly approached, subtly squeezing Chen Xiaolian’s wrist.
