Chapter Thirty-Nine: The First Ray of Light in the Universe
“Is there any way to break this curse?” Xie Jing was dumbfounded. He had never expected Autopes to pull such a trick on him.
Although Autopes had babbled something to him at the time, Xie Jing was already drifting into a haze and remembered nothing of what had been said.
“The coming of the God of Darkness cannot be stopped!” The Father of Ultra shook his head, sighing deeply.
“Autopes sensed the arrival of the King at that moment, and you were the main culprit behind its demise. So, it sacrificed ninety percent of its own flesh and blood in a ritual, all for revenge against you.”
In that instant, countless thoughts raced through Xie Jing’s mind.
Was the curse descending upon the world of Diga or his own reality? In what form would it manifest? By what means would it extinguish life?
He asked the Father of Ultra for answers.
Unfortunately, the Father of Ultra had never witnessed such a curse firsthand; he had only heard of it during his ventures across the cosmos.
“First, gloomy black clouds will descend, shrouding the light. These clouds will affect the emotions of living beings, driving them into violence, even causing them to turn on one another.
Then, hordes of deadly monsters will appear—slaves of darkness—destroying all visible life.
Finally, the god will arrive, absorbing all souls, transforming the entire planet into a dead star where life can never exist!”
“Has no one ever resisted?” Xie Jing pressed.
“It’s nearly impossible!” The Father of Ultra recalled, “The activation of such a curse is extremely difficult and requires extraordinary conditions. After Autopes absorbed the flesh and blood of ten thousand monsters, though the absorption was incomplete and only crudely used, it still had to sacrifice ninety percent of its life force to trigger the curse.
Moreover, this curse cannot target races that are too powerful, such as ours. We are inherently attuned to the light, and the God of Darkness would not accept a ritual against us. The god is fair: to destroy our kind would require so much life force that no entity in the universe could muster it.
As far as I know, there is only one way to resolve this curse!”
“What way?” Xie Jing’s excitement flared. As long as there was hope, he would act, not simply wait for death.
“Light! Find the first ray of light in the universe!” The Father of Ultra spoke slowly. “With the protection of the primordial light, the God of Darkness cannot trouble you. Remember, it must be the universe’s first ray of light!”
“The first ray of light?” Xie Jing swallowed. That sounded like some ancient, chaotic artifact—not something easily found.
“I don’t know the specifics, these are all legends. That’s all I know,” the Father of Ultra admitted, helpless.
Sitting up, Xie Jing turned to reassure the Father of Ultra, “It’s fine. The first ray of light in the universe—how hard can it be?”
In truth, Xie Jing thought: if I can’t find it in one world, I’ll search another.
The legend of the first ray of light appears in countless TV shows, movies, and anime. Xie Jing believed that neither his fate nor Earth’s was doomed. If he explored enough worlds, he would surely find some clue.
Seeing Xie Jing’s optimism, the Father of Ultra could only sigh inwardly, thinking that Xie Jing was forcing a smile to ease his worries.
“How are the other Ultra warriors?” Xie Jing asked.
“Don’t worry. The warriors who were ripped apart at the scene, and those who died from lack of energy, have all been revived. The power of the Plasma Spark can restore their fighting strength!”
“That’s good!” Xie Jing was relieved. He trusted the medical prowess of the Land of Light; after all, the Ultra Brothers had ‘died’ countless times yet were always brought back.
“Here, this is for you.”
The Father of Ultra took out a medal emblazoned with the star, handing it to Xie Jing.
“This is the medal given by the Land of Light to its dearest friends. If you ever encounter difficulties, show this medal, and the Land of Light will help you unconditionally!”
Xie Jing examined the medal repeatedly before clasping it firmly in his hand.
“Perhaps Earth truly needs the help of the Land of Light,” he thought, and didn’t bother with polite refusal, simply thanking him.
“May I visit the injured warriors?”
“Of course!” The Father of Ultra answered without hesitation. “The Land of Light holds no secrets from you—you are our closest comrade!”
...
The Land of Light never knew night, yet even Ultramen needed rest.
Xie Jing was no exception.
After settling into his quarters, Xie Jing sat cross-legged on the crystal floor, opening the system.
As expected, beneath the Lucky Task, the words ‘Completed’ appeared.
This battle was, in truth, Xie Jing’s first real combat. His previous fights against monsters on Earth felt like child’s play, as fragile as paper.
But this time, he was battered throughout, suppressed, surrounded by enemies several times stronger than himself.
He could hardly believe he’d managed to endure.
He tapped the ‘Completed’ button, and the task text vanished, replaced by a pop-up window.
[Congratulations on completing the task. Number of draws +1]
[Congratulations on completing the task. Would you like to claim an increase in luck (you can store it for later if you prefer)?]
[Yes] [No]
Xie Jing glanced at the lottery section; it wasn’t available yet. He pondered—there wasn’t anything requiring luck at the moment.
“No!”
[Your luck increase has been saved. Click this record to use it when needed.]
Immediately, Xie Jing noticed the timer at the top of the screen flipping rapidly, finally settling on a time.
[14400:59]
The digits were counting down. Xie Jing did the math: 14,400 minutes, exactly ten days.
So, he could remain in this space-time for another ten days?
It seemed he could return home!
Xie Jing exhaled deeply. He’d never been sure of the system’s rules; if completing a task didn’t let him go back, he’d have been utterly devastated.
He closed the system; staring at that rigid thing any longer wouldn’t yield new answers.
Quietly, he felt the changes in his body. The light bestowed by the King of Ultra coursed through him, like a magic power uniquely his own.
This light brimmed with potent vitality—perhaps the reason he could be revived.
No, it wasn’t exactly vitality!
After sensing it confidently, Xie Jing decided it was repair power.
It seemed capable of instantly assimilating into any material, merging perfectly, and maintaining its original form.
In other words, if someone lost a limb, Xie Jing could use this power of light to replace the missing flesh and bone, restoring it exactly as it was, complete and whole.
“Incredible!”
Xie Jing couldn’t help but marvel. This power didn’t seem overwhelming at first glance, but on reflection, it was terrifying.
Though his abilities were not yet strong, he believed that, as the King of Ultra, he could use this light to repair the universe itself.
What Xie Jing didn’t know was that, at a certain point in time, to stop Belial from destroying the universe with the Super Time-Space Destruction Bomb, the King of Ultra had spread his entire power, erasing the explosion and repairing the wounds of the universe.
