Chapter 114: A Weighty Responsibility and a Long Road Ahead (With Gratitude for Friends' Votes)
After the two decided on the name of their sect, Wang Keyue was delighted to find that her main quest progress had already reached 25%. It was remarkable how much faster things were moving now.
“Tomorrow, let’s first take care of the city walls. If we can hold off the barbarian invaders even a little, it will buy us more time to develop,” Wang Keyue said.
After dinner and their discussion, they each returned to their tents to rest. Wang Keyue felt somewhat fatigued from the mandatory tasks and slept soundly through the night.
The next day, following the plan, the two took a secure flying vehicle directly to the northwestern border. Using the map’s markings and under Xiao Baobao’s guidance, they flew over the terrain to observe it closely. Finally, they placed two sections of the city wall exactly where the terrain dictated.
As before, the ground shook violently, and the walls sprang up like bamboo shoots after rain. The spectacle was breathtaking, especially from mid-air where the two were hovering. Wang Keyue couldn’t help but marvel inwardly at the wonders of the system space; these marvels transcended mere high technology—they felt more like immortal artifacts from a cultivation world.
With the walls installed, they returned to camp. Xiao Hongyu busied himself with arrangements for the wall’s defense.
Meanwhile, Wang Keyue set the fertile land she had obtained earlier at the rear of the military camp, allocating ten acres. Her actions did not go unnoticed; many in the camp witnessed this miracle and were left speechless. They recalled General Xiao’s mention of Taoist magic and concluded this must be some form of immortal master’s spellwork.
Finally, Wang Keyue left behind a substantial stockpile of supplies and prepared to make a trip back to the Fu Gui Manor—or to be exact, the New Moon Sect’s base. She was still coming to terms with the fact that she was now the sect leader herself, which made her chuckle quietly to herself.
Wang Keyue headed back alone, while Xiao Hongyu longed to accompany her and help build their sect firsthand, but he couldn’t leave just yet.
He had many urgent matters to attend to: securing the northwestern border, recruiting more personnel to prepare for assuming the position of Prince of Beiping Commandery, managing the care of the precious ten acres of fertile land, and arranging for wounded soldiers to be sent to the New Moon Sect in Kangle County.
Indeed, the workload seemed to grow heavier, but life now seemed to have direction. Most importantly, he felt hope—the hope of returning home.
Wang Keyue repaired the communicator and handed it to Xiao Hongyu, as they would need it for future contact. She purchased five more from the spatial inventory, keeping two as spares for Xiao Hongyu and planning to send the rest back to Wang Family Village for easier communication.
---
Wang Keyue traveled alone on the flying vehicle, returning to the sect. Along the way, she gazed out at the vast northwestern desert. To establish a foothold in such a desolate land was truly a daunting task.
Midway, she detoured to Wang Family Village, where she revealed her true self to Madam Wang, her adopted father, older brother, uncle, and cousin, settling some outstanding matters.
Wang Jinfeng had never imagined that his daughter would truly be enlightened by an immortal. Now, able to travel freely in the sky on a divine artifact, he felt both proud and relieved.
“Yue’er, you’ve grown up with more ability than your father. You are the hope of our Wang family,” Wang Jinfeng said with a kindly, paternal smile.
Wang Keyue felt a little embarrassed under her adoptive father’s gaze—after all, she wasn’t his biological daughter, so such praise made her somewhat conflicted.
She said nothing, merely responding with a bashful, silly smile.
“That’s enough. Yue’er has traveled a long way, let her freshen up and rest. You two can talk later,” the elder matriarch said as she took Wang Keyue’s hand. Her once tender hands now bore a slight callus. Her eyes moistened as she softly spoke, “Yue’er, my dear girl, you’ve worked hard...”
Having spent some time with the matriarch, Wang Keyue felt more at ease. She smiled sweetly and said, “Grandma, I’m not tired at all, don’t worry!”
“Hmm, now that you’re the disciple of a divine immortal, you must always be cautious with your words and actions,” the matriarch reminded her as always. Wang Keyue gratefully accepted the elder’s kindness.
Back in her room, Wang Keyue found everything neatly arranged and spotless, which warmed her heart. After washing up and enjoying some snacks and tea sent by Madam Wang, she rested briefly on the cozy bed.
For some reason—perhaps related to her original body’s spiritual energy—Wang Keyue felt deeply comfortable and relaxed here, falling asleep until dusk when a young maid woke her for dinner.
That sleep was unprecedentedly refreshing, filling her with vigor and vitality.
This time, the family was truly reunited, though many were absent. But the departed were gone, and the living could only look forward.
---
At the family dinner, distinctions between men and women’s seating were set aside. Everyone gathered together for a reunion meal.
“Yue’er, come sit here!” her adoptive father said with a hint of shyness.
Wang Keyue looked at the man before her—under forty, mature and steady, his resolute face marked by a small scar on his chin.
Her original mother had passed away two years ago while her adoptive father was still on the battlefield, unable to see her one last time. He harbored deep regret and had no desire to remarry. Thankfully, he never did—otherwise, another woman might have suffered.
Wang Keyue felt a pang of pity for him and smiled gently, sitting obediently between him and Madam Wang.
“Little sister, why isn’t your master here?” her cousin Wang Zhiheng asked.
“My master returned to the sect to handle affairs. He agreed to help me this time because of me, but he’s usually very busy, so I seldom see him,” Wang Keyue explained.
“Then... could you introduce me to join your sect? By the way, what sect is it? I heard your master mention something about Taoism,” Wang Zhiheng asked.
“Yes, the Taoist New Moon Sect. It’s located just outside Kangle County,” Wang Keyue did not hide the truth.
Hearing this, Wang Zhiheng brightened immediately. “Kangle County! That’s not far from here! Sister, why don’t you introduce Second Brother to the sect?”
