Chapter 144 What Does That Have to Do With Us?

Paralyzed and unable to move, the young girl in the white dress—hardly older than Luyin—finally understood why her older sister had stood there frozen and motionless.
Alas, she was completely incapable of crying out for help at this moment; she could only watch with wide eyes as that damned mosquito sucked blood from her body continuously.
Time and tide wait for no man. Knowing the situation within the camp, Xiao Wenzi figured it might not be long before others noticed the three night-watchmen had been ambushed. After subduing the young girl, he quickly began sucking blood to exchange for system coins.
Suddenly, just as he had absorbed the girl's blood and exchanged it for hundreds of system coins, a commotion erupted within the camp.
Accompanied by the sound of hurried footsteps, a man's slightly anxious voice echoed inside the tent: "Junior Sister Bai, Zhi'er, are you alright...?"
Presumably out of respect for the Bai sisters, although the man had discovered the raided camp, he did not directly project his divine sense to investigate.
"To think he's a hopeless romantic. Well, that saves some trouble, at least."
Xiao Wenzi chuckled inwardly, instantly stopping his blood-sucking. He exchanged for a talisman to conceal his form and quietly flew out of the tent.
"Brother Feng, could Yulian and Zhi'er be in trouble too?"
After the young man called out several times without receiving a reply, someone immediately asked anxiously at his side.
The man addressed as Brother Feng could no longer afford to hesitate; he led his people directly rushing into the tent.
Hearing that the camp had suffered an unprovoked attack, all the young men and women in the tents rushed out. Amidst the chaos of the crowd, no one noticed a thing.
A mosquito so pale it was virtually invisible quietly brushed past Brother Feng, then leisurely flew out of the camp, vanishing into the distance under the cover of night.
Listening to the commotion growing increasingly distant behind him, Xiao Wenzi’s heart was filled with joy.
Although using the invisibility talisman a few times had consumed quite a few system coins, he still had over three thousand left, which was more than enough to exchange for dozens of spiritual pills for cultivation. His trip tonight had certainly been worthwhile.
Moreover, as long as he returned to Chu Xin'er's side, by tomorrow he could put distance between himself and those fellows. Who could possibly do anything to him?
What Xiao Wenzi did not know was that several elite Foundation Establishment disciples of the Lingtian Sect had already entered the Lingtian Canyon because of him; otherwise, he certainly would not have been so smug.
"Xiaowen, did everything go smoothly?"

Chu Xin'er's divine sense was far stronger than that of Luyin and her brother, and since she had set up the array herself, it was easy for her to expand her perception and detect Xiao Wenzi's return. However, Luyin and Lufang, who stood beside her, felt absolutely nothing.
"Pretty well," Xiao Wenzi replied joyfully. Taking advantage of the moment Chu Xin'er made an excuse to step outside the array, he quickly darted back into the beast pouch at her waist.
"Uncle Feng, why are you here?"
Two thousand miles away, in a valley where a stream gurgled softly, dozens of tents were pitched. At this moment, inside the largest tent in the center, Xu Lingzi bowed respectfully to the young man seated at the head.
Following closely beside him were Xu Chen, whose injuries had yet to fully heal, and Xu Kong, whose face was still covered in itchy bumps that had not completely faded.
Despite the fact that the man before them looked extremely handsome and youthful—not much older than Xu Lingzi himself—he was indeed a genuine elder of his, Xu Feng, an outstanding figure from the previous generation of the Xu family.
"Not just me, even Zhou Peng, Wang Lingfei, and Yang Hong have come under orders. To deal with mere vermin who raises demonic mosquitoes, the sect is simply making a mountain out of a molehill."
Having already reached the late Foundation Establishment stage and ranking in the top twenty of the Lingtian Sect's Foundation Establishment elite roll, Xu Feng had every reason to be arrogant.
From his perspective, no matter who had brought the demonic mosquitoes in or what their purpose was, constrained by the age limit for the preliminary selection, the intruder's cultivation could not possibly be very high; the early Foundation Establishment stage should be their limit.
He alone could easily handle such a small fry, yet the sect had sent Wang Lingfei, Zhou Peng, Yang Hong, and others—who were at odds with him—to meddle as well. He suspected there was an intention to test him using this opportunity.
"What? Demonic mosquitoes? Didn't that damned fellow self-destruct? Uncle Feng, could you elaborate?"
"Oh, it seems you lot already know something. Here is what happened..."
After receiving the mission, Xu Feng had entered Lingtian Canyon directly. He had not met the young man or Zhou Tong—who had been forced to crush their jade talismans and teleport out a few days earlier due to the shockwave of the self-destruction triggered when Xiao Wenzi targeted Xu Lingzi—and naturally knew nothing of the inside story.
The reason he had sought out Xu Lingzi and the others was partly because the Xu family possessed specialized communication talismans to keep in touch, and partly because his point of random arrival happened to be close to this valley.
Lingtian Canyon was extremely mysterious, filled everywhere with arcane spatial arrays that rendered its boundaries undetectable. Having entered before, Xu Feng did not believe he could locate the target quickly on his own, which was why he wanted to mobilize manpower.
Hearing Xu Lingzi proactively bring the matter up now, he felt a pleasant surprise. After careful questioning, a smile gradually spread across Xu Feng's face.
Though Zhou Peng, Wang Lingfei, and the others were fellow sect members, they were also fierce competitors. If he could complete the mission ahead of them, not only would it bring glory to the patriarch's face, but he could also use the opportunity to overshadow his rivals.

"A female cultivator surnamed Chu at the Foundation Establishment stage? It is highly likely to be her. Starting tomorrow, your team will begin searching for that woman's whereabouts with all your might..."
Chu Xin'er might very well be the person raising the demonic mosquitoes, and finding her was of paramount importance. Having heard Xu Feng's instructions, Xu Lingzi and the others nodded respectfully, not daring to be negligent.
Early the next morning, just as the sky was beginning to brighten, Chu Xin'er frowned and stood up from her meditation mat because the array she had set up was being tampered with.
"What is it, Sister Chu? Wait for us!"
Luyin and Lufang also sensed the fluctuations in the surrounding array. Seeing Chu Xin'er take out the array disc, open the light barrier, and walk outside, they hurriedly followed.
The array parted, and upon seeing that the score of people outside were precisely the team she had seen yesterday—the very ones she had let Xiaowen raid by night—Chu Xin'er maintained a calm exterior while her heart hammered against her ribs.
For them to track her down so quickly, could they have discovered some clue?
The leading young man's eyes lit up immediately upon seeing Chu Xin'er and Luyin. Lowering his posture, he said, "I am Song Feng, captain of the Yunfeng team. Greetings to the three Daoist friends."
Song Feng's attitude caused Chu Xin'er to breathe a sigh of relief, while Luyin and Lufang wore peculiar expressions.
Because three of the young men in the opposing group had the most comical appearances: their hands and faces were covered in red, swollen bumps, making them look at first glance like pig heads.
Even though the group did not seem to have come looking for trouble, Chu Xin'er still spoke coldly, "We should be strangers, shouldn't we? Daoist Friend Song, you brought people to attack the array I set up—what is the meaning of this?"
In truth, the group had merely triggered the array and had not actually launched a full-scale attack, but Chu Xin'er's words clearly carried the intent to find fault.
"Well, three Daoist friends, our Yunfeng team suffered an attack by demonic mosquitoes last night. Not only were these fellows heavily injured and looking quite wretched, but one of our members also mysteriously vanished..."
Faced with Chu Xin'er's interrogation, Song Feng first smiled awkwardly, then pointed to his three wretched-looking companions as he offered this explanation.
"Oh, demonic mosquitoes? But what does that have to do with us?"
Before Song Feng could finish speaking, Chu Xin'er directly interrupted him. Luyin and Lufang, whose expressions had shifted slightly, remained silent on the side, though they clearly followed Chu Xin'er's lead in all matters.
