Chapter 134 System Upgrade
Exhausted of all his inner energy, Lin Yang plummeted directly from a height of a hundred meters in the sky.
He landed right in the middle of what used to be four peaks, kicking up dust over a dozen meters high.
Though he smashed a crater several meters deep into the ground, this massive drop caused no significant injury to Lin Yang's body.
With a dull thud upon impact, only a billow of dust rose into the air.
"Still alive."
Sensing the empty spiritual Qi within his body and his aching muscles, he was now at the end of his tether.
Collapsing onto the ground just like that, he was about to drift into a deep sleep.
"Husband."
A few miles away, Shui Miao'er and Yun Ting, possessing the highest cultivation and the greatest speed, rushed to the scene immediately.
"Husband."
Running over, Yun Ting pulled Lin Yang directly into her embrace.
Shui Miao'er brought her hand close to Lin Yang's nose to check if he was still breathing.
Feeling his faint breath at last, she finally let out a sigh of relief before gripping Lin Yang's hand tightly.
Struggling to keep his eyes open, Lin Yang looked around and saw the frantic duo along with the disciples and family members rushing toward him.
Then, he muttered two words softly and drifted off to sleep.
"I'm going to sleep for a bit, don't disturb me."
………………
Lin Yang felt as though he were in a fantastical world; this whimsical, untethered sensation felt deeply familiar to him.
It was just like having a dream.
Dreaming meant that a person had entered deep sleep, a state where all vigilance was completely let down.
For Lin Yang, who had not dreamed in decades, this was something both intensely unfamiliar and strangely familiar.
For cultivators, constant cultivation and vigilance toward the external environment were of the utmost importance.
Perhaps cultivators only ever dreamed when they were children before they embarked on the path of cultivation.
………………
On the mountainside of the Yunduan Mountain Range, there was a complex of ruined palaces.
Yet amidst these ruins, a few palaces remained completely intact.
In a rather secluded corner stood an undamaged palace. Although pristine, no one ever seemed to enter or leave it.
Everything around it had been meticulously cleared, instantly sweeping away the chaotic mess left from three days ago.
Though it was an auxiliary wing, this palace was exceptionally tall and remarkably spacious inside.
Even so, the palace served simply as a dwelling place for a person to rest.
At this moment, inside stood a bed, upon which a handsome man with chiseled, knife-cut facial muscles lay quietly, his eyes closed in peaceful slumber.
Sitting by the bedside was a young maiden who kept her eyes fixed upon the man every single moment.
Her brows remained knitted together in worry as she gazed at the man before her.
Noticing that the embers in the nearby censer had died out once again, she rose to fetch a cloth pouch, poured out some aromatic incense, and lit it anew.
The entire palace was overly spacious; its furnishings, though unpretentious, exuded a quiet luxury. The materials used to build the palace were a special kind of wood known for calming the mind and spirit.
Various ornaments crafted from rare materials displayed a subtle, understated opulence.
The incense burning within, however, was exceptionally delicate and refined, capable of instantly soothing one's mind.
Lin Yang lay on the bed, breathing slowly with his eyes closed.
By now, all his vigilance was gone, and his entire being was immersed in dreamland.
Wang Ling'er sat quietly by his side, watching Lin Yang. After a while, when the incense burned down, she would light a fresh batch for him.
If too much incense was used, the scent would become overly pungent; if too little, it would burn away too quickly.
Therefore, it had to be relighted every single hour, and so Wang Ling'er added fresh incense religiously every hour.
Three days and three nights passed in this manner, during which others came by from time to time to check on Lin Yang.
Had it not been for Lin Yang's completely normal—and even exceptionally robust—vital signs, the mere symptom of unceasing unconsciousness would have terrified everyone.
While fast asleep in dreamland, Lin Yang heard the voice of the system.
"System version upgrade available. Do you wish to upgrade?"
Still asleep in his dream, Lin Yang was entirely groggy.
Thus, he muttered vaguely in his slumber, "Upgrade."
In an instant, a progress bar appeared before Lin Yang's eyes.
The progress bar moved exceedingly slowly, taking a full two days to finally reach completion.
"Ding."
"New feature unlocked: treasures of equivalent value can now be exchanged for treasure points."
"One treasure point equals ten thousand attribute points, or one hundred thousand spiritual stones."
"Additionally, cultivation realms can now be elevated using attribute points."
"Natal magical artifact system unlocked: you can now synthesize and cultivate your own natal magical artifact."
"System updates are as follows. We hope the host enjoys using them."
After a short while, once the system finished listing all the update details, the interface vanished from before Lin Yang.
Even after the system update was complete, Lin Yang remained fast asleep in his dream.
Meanwhile, his body had not ceased changing; his entire physical form was continuously absorbing external spiritual Qi.
His flesh and blood were gradually repairing his damaged cells, and upon healing, those damaged cells and meridians became even tougher and more resilient.
This process lasted for a full three days and three nights before his body could be considered completely restored to its original condition.
Still lost in dreamland, Lin Yang dreamt that he was happily playing basketball on a court.
Suddenly, his foot slipped, and he landed squarely on a sharp rock, snapping him instantly awake out of his sleep.
Lin Yang bolted upright from the bed, panting heavily.
He hurriedly stood up, using his hands and mind to frantically grope and check his backside.
"Turns out it was just a dream."
Lin Yang touched his rear, feeling no pain whatsoever, and finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Husband."
Seeing Lin Yang wake up, Wang Ling'er leaped directly onto the bed and embraced the standing Lin Yang.
Lin Yang held Wang Ling'er quietly in his arms, the two of them clinging to one another in silence.
After a long while, Lin Yang finally released Wang Ling'er, stroked her cheek, and looked at her breathtaking, peerlessly beautiful, and alluring face, speaking softly.
"There, aren't I still alive?"
"Let's go报平安 (let them know we are safe) to your other sisters first."
"Alright."
Wang Ling'er silently wiped away her tears and stepped down from the bed.
Once Lin Yang had dressed, he took Wang Ling'er by the hand and walked out of the sleeping chamber.
Pushing open the heavy doors, a wave of fresh air rushed instantly to greet them.
Lin Yang spread his arms wide to embrace the baptism of the cool outdoor air.
Opening his eyes, he gazed at the earth before him and the towering sky.
All sorts of birds and beasts wandered freely across the peaks, while thick clouds and mists enshrouded the entire mountain body.
A white crane occasionally soared across the sky, clutching a cloth pouch in its talons, evidently delivering supplies to other disciples.
Looking into the distance, he saw the tragic destruction caused a few days prior: two gigantic craters that had filled with vast amounts of rainwater over the past few days.
They had directly formed two circular lakes filled with emerald-green water, upon which drifted scattered branches and leaves.
Various animals roamed the lakeshores, drinking water from the perimeter.
In the forest, hidden gazes filled with bloodlust could still be discerned; no matter the place, wherever there was a water source, predators were sure to follow.
Turning his gaze toward the palaces on the other peaks, he saw that most of them had been shattered to pieces by the violent bolts of lightning.
At this moment, a large number of disciples were busy repairing those damaged structures.
Some disciples even enlisted spiritual beasts to help, such as a towering tiger several meters tall being used to transport giant logs.
Another massive elephant was stationed on the ground merely to prop up roof beams for everyone.
Naturally, these spiritual beasts also had moments where they caused more harm than good, like a giant wolf resembling an Alaskan Malamute running amok through the under-repair palace.
The giant wolf's massive frame knocked over the newly reassembled framework all over again.
Chasing closely behind it was a spirited young girl dressed in a pink dress.
Her hair was tied into two small buns, adorned with a festive Chinese-red ribbon.
"Erha, stop running!"
As it turned out, this young girl and the dog were gifts Lin Yang had given to his daughter, Lin Shuang'er.
Lin Yang had discovered Erha back when it was still just a wolf pup in a marketplace and bought it outright to give to Lin Shuang'er.
Lin Yang's original intention was for Erha's liveliness and high energy to bring joy and companionship to Lin Shuang'er.
Yet it seemed that now, both human and dog were a bit too lively, actually getting in the way and causing chaos here.
"You're over thirty years old and still running around playing like this—what kind of decorum is that?"
Lin Yang extended both hands, pointing them directly at the girl and the dog.
In an instant, both Lin Shuang'er and Erha were caught by an invisible giant hand and floated over to Lin Yang's side.
"Who is that? Let this young lady go!"
Lin Shuang'er had been happily chasing Erha when suddenly she was enveloped by a mysterious force and hoisted into the air.
Panicking slightly, she flailed her little feet helplessly in the void.
"Uh, Daddy."
Realizing that she was flying in the direction of her father, Lin Shuang'er blushed slightly.
Lin Yang pulled her over, set her down on the ground, and reprimanded her with a straight face.
"Don't you see all your senior and junior brothers repairing houses over there? Not only are you not helping, but you're also making a mess with Erha."
"Now go find your mother, third mother, Lin Hu, and Lin Shu, and bring them here."
"Oh."
Lin Shuang'er pursed her small lips, looking utterly adorable.
"Hurry up and go."
