Chapter 60: Is There Really Such a Good Thing?
Gu Lang, ever cautious, had already arranged for his many wives to wait outside the city. At his command, they would rush to reinforce him at any moment.
Early the next morning, Gu Lang was awakened.
“Master Gu, it’s time for us to set out. The zombie tide has weakened the Princess’s strength, but it’s not permanent—we must seize this window.”
Liu Wenhao had come to find Gu Lang personally.
“All right, how many of our Liu family members are here?” Gu Lang glanced at Liu Wenhao, probing for information without giving anything away.
“Elder Gu, there are three of us at the Gold rank, about fourteen Silver, and more than two hundred Bronze-level fighters.”
Liu Wenhao recited the numbers as if counting his own treasures and continued, “Then there’s Su Xing’er—their family has twenty Silver, the Zhang family still has thirteen, and the remaining scattered families together add up to twenty more Silver.”
Gu Lang nodded. This force, in the current apocalypse, was indeed top-tier.
“What’s the strength of this Millennia Zombie Princess?” Gu Lang walked deeper into the scenic area, following Liu Wenhao.
“About peak Gold rank—she’s incredibly strong. But we have numbers, and our main goal today is to probe her defenses, not storm all the way in.”
Liu Wenhao’s voice carried lingering dread—differences among Gold ranks were immense. From early to late Gold could mean nearly double the stats. In a real fight, they wouldn’t stand a chance. But those who’d survived to this point in the apocalypse all carried a gambler’s spirit. After all, if you didn’t fight for a few years, you’d end up dead to the zombies anyway.
Soon, they arrived at the base of a snowy mountain.
“How is there snow in the middle of summer?” Gu Lang frowned. Hadn’t the scenic area’s systems lost power?
“Master Gu, you may not know—this zombie’s skill is to control wind and snow. The Princess’s presence has altered the environment.”
Liu Wenhao explained, then produced a map from his chest. “She’s adept at using ice and snow to create walls. The entire mountain is her domain. To find her, we must ascend and clear six levels in all!”
“Each level’s trial is different, but each contains abundant resources. There are even rumored Silver and Gold treasure chests.”
Gu Lang furrowed his brow. So this was a dungeon!
Back in Dawn City, that mall had also been a dungeon. Drop rates increased within dungeons.
For Gu Lang, this was a stroke of luck. No wonder the system wanted him to approach the princess—he was meant to clear the dungeon.
“The three great families have already broken through the first two levels. Today, our target is the third.”
Liu Wenhao led the way, and the group set foot on the snowy mountain.
Before Gu Lang stretched a forest under snow. Towering trees were coated in ice.
Everywhere, thick snow blanketed the ground. Among the drifts lurked blue zombies.
“Master Gu, these are the challenge of the third level. These zombies are enhanced Bronze, almost as strong as Silver. Their color is blue, and they excel in ice combat. We’ve already lost dozens of men here.”
The speaker was Su Xing’er. The Su and Zhang family members were already waiting.
“So, all I need to do is kill these zombies, right?” Gu Lang smirked coldly, unconcerned.
“Exactly, Master Gu. You handle the slaughter. As long as we clear this level, we’ll get the Gold chest here!”
Gu Lang nodded indifferently, swung his fist, and smashed it down on one of the zombies.
With a thunderous crash, his physical strength rivaled a car. The zombie’s head was pulverized instantly.
As it died, a green light floated to Gu Lang.
Two free attribute points!
Gu Lang was startled—so many?
It didn’t stop there—his dim-witted companion also smashed a zombie, and another green light appeared.
Two more points!
Amazing! Was such good fortune even possible?
Gu Lang was shocked—the drop rate in this dungeon was astonishingly high. Even ordinary zombies yielded two points each.
He looked out over the dungeon—zombies were packed tightly, numbering at least ten thousand.
If he killed them all, wouldn’t he soar in power?
“It must be because this is a higher-level dungeon, and I have a shared drop-rate bonus,” Gu Lang calculated inwardly.
Excitement rose in him—this was his chance to grow stronger!
To others, this was a perilous dungeon. To him, it was a paradise for grinding monsters.
Without wasting words, he dove headlong into the snow.
With a sharp whistle, dozens of icicles flew from his hands.
Wherever they landed, zombies were shattered. More green lights floated over—most worth two points each.
In just a short time, Gu Lang had accumulated twelve attribute points. Previously, even if he killed zombies nonstop, it would have taken two or three days to reach that number. Now, it had taken only ten minutes.
His efficiency had increased a hundredfold—it was like picking up cash compared to before.
“Gu Lang! Who could worry about leveling up now?” His simple-minded companion grinned excitedly beside him.
“Exactly. And this is only the third level. There are three more to go. By the end, I might even advance to mid-Gold!”
Gu Lang’s spirits soared. He knew that the gap between early and mid-Gold was huge—three or four hundred attribute points, perhaps. He once thought leveling up would be as hard as reaching the heavens. After all, a whole wave of zombies had only netted him a hundred points before. Yet now, gaining points was as easy as drinking water.
“Let’s continue!”
With a shout, Gu Lang unleashed dozens more icicles.
Liu Wenhao’s eyes widened, and he drew in a sharp breath.
“Wait… He can launch icicles as well? He’s almost at mid-Gold! If this man wasn’t an ally, we wouldn’t have a chance at any spoils here.”
Su Xing’er sneered coldly at his side. “Heh, you’re thinking too simply. These two might not be good people. Aren’t you afraid they’ll use this dungeon to grow stronger and then turn on us?”
Liu Wenhao dismissed her concerns. “You forget about the Millennia Princess. Do you really think he can slaughter his way through unimpeded?”
“These two are just tools for me. Once they clear the dungeon and face the Zombie Queen, we’ll strike at the right moment.”
“No matter how strong he is, the Queen will be hard-pressed to kill him. But do you really think these ten thousand survivors are just for show?”
At that moment, Su Xing’er frowned.
“Have you noticed their drop rate is too high? Even with the boosted dungeon drop, we only get a light after three or four kills. How come they get one every time?”
Liu Wenhao had noticed too.
“Could he be carrying some equipment that increases drop rates?”
Unable to sit still, Liu Wenhao hesitated but then stepped onto the snowy mountain as well.
After he left, Su Xing’er bowed her head and whispered, “My lord, it’s confirmed—Gu Lang is the leader of Iron Fortress City. Should we capture him alive and send him to SPC headquarters?”
