Chapter Eleven: The Aloof Young Lady and the Silver Zombie?
After digesting the information, Gu Lang was utterly shocked. It turned out both zombies and humans could evolve. At present, he and his two zombie followers were all at the bronze level. Above that were silver, gold, diamond, king, and so forth. There were no small stages within each rank; advancement was purely based on attribute values. Once the required attributes were met, one could use an evolution item to ascend. Each promotion brought a substantial increase in stats. The gap between bronze and silver was at least a factor of two. Additionally, skills would leap forward as well. For example, his Royal Authority skill would allow him to control up to fifteen zombies after leveling up.
Gu Lang's eyes shone. It seemed his attributes had already reached the threshold! He opened his status panel:
[Name: Gu Lang]
[Charm: 10]
[Speed: 10]
[Strength: 13]
[Intelligence: 3]
[Skills: Royal Authority, Savage Charge]
[Remaining Points: 14]
Considering the upcoming trip to the park, Gu Lang decided to allocate his attribute points immediately. He used two points to boost speed, and twelve points for strength. Now, he had 25 strength and 12 speed. He had become a little superman, even stronger than Yu Qiuchi. At a glance, it seemed he could bend steel with a single punch. He was more than capable of protecting himself!
With everything ready, Gu Lang began plotting the task ahead. But now the question arose: how should he get to the amusement park? There wasn’t one near the residential area; the nearest was ten kilometers away. Driving was out of the question. Last time, their destination was just next door, close with wide roads. This time, ten kilometers would mean the roads were littered with wrecked vehicles. Going out would definitely result in a traffic jam. Walking wasn’t ideal either. Though Gu Lang was strong, ten kilometers was a long way, full of zombies and dangers that would wear anyone down. By the time he arrived, he’d likely be exhausted—how could he then clear the entire park?
Gu Lang frowned, deep in thought, considering every possible mode of transport. Suddenly, inspiration struck. “I can’t drive, but I can walk along the high-speed rail!” Yes, the park was a public place, directly accessible via the railway. Though the trains were no longer running, the tracks remained. Crucially, there were no zombies up there, making it a safe route on foot!
“That’s right! We’ll walk along the railway bridge!”
Not long ago, at the gate of the park Gu Lang had just visited, a group of more than ten people arrived. Leading them was a young man with green-dyed hair. He glanced at the bloodstains on the ground, frowning. “Dead? Looks like someone killed them. Who dares mess with our SPC people?”
A subordinate cautiously stepped forward. “Boss, the apocalypse has just begun. There are plenty of survivors, but none have organized safe zones like ours yet. My guess is they ran into a survivor squad—looks like they were killed by a car.”
The green-haired man snorted coldly. “Hmph! In the apocalypse, power is everything. Our safe zone is the strongest in town. But someone dares challenge us? Find them and take them out!”
A bald man stepped forward, holding a large gray dog. “Leave it to me!” The dog sniffed around and slowly advanced. The group began to follow the trail, gradually moving away.
On the railway bridge, Gu Lang and his two companions progressed cautiously. They encountered no danger. The little girl couldn’t help but exclaim, “Gu Lang, you’re amazing! This place is really safe!”
After making up his mind, Gu Lang had found the nearest railway and climbed over the wall onto the bridge. From there, he could see the surrounding streets. Below, zombies roamed everywhere, but up here, it was empty except for a few abandoned trains at the stations. It was even safer than walking through the subway.
An hour later, they finally saw their destination: a lavish theme park. The main gate was tightly shut, with hundreds of zombies wandering freely inside. Gu Lang even spotted some zombies with the same sharp gaze as the little girl—obviously special zombies with skills.
A new problem arose. The task required them to interact with the carousel, roller coaster, and Ferris wheel. All these attractions were without power—how could they start them? And more importantly, how could they enter safely?
At that moment, the little girl spoke up. “Gu Lang, I can use my skill to drive all these zombies out!”
Gu Lang shook his head. “There are too many zombies and the area is too large. By the time we clear it, the environment will have changed again. Zombies aren’t lifeless objects.”
Yu Qiuchi clenched her tiny fists and waved them. “These rides are all surrounded by iron fences, each forming a separate enclosure. The zombies inside can’t get out—so we just have to knock them all down!”
Gu Lang shook his head helplessly. “There are too many... Wait, iron fences?”
Yu Qiuchi’s crude suggestion gave Gu Lang inspiration. Many large attractions had iron barriers around them. Now, these fences acted as walls, isolating each ride. Zombies outside couldn’t get in for a while, and those inside couldn’t leave. If they quickly cleared the zombies nearby and moved fast, it could work!
Yes, the plan was feasible! Gu Lang’s spirits lifted. “Alright, let’s split up and head for the carousel first!”
They swiftly scaled the wall and entered the park. Thanks to their speed, they soon reached a corner near a golden carousel. Fortunately, there were only seven or eight scattered zombies nearby. Gu Lang and the little girl jointly used Royal Authority, controlling the zombies and making them retreat. The three of them then sat atop the carousel. Though it wasn’t powered, Gu Lang could sense that one task was complete. This energized him. At this rate, the mission would be finished in no time.
However, as they moved on to the Ferris wheel, Gu Lang suddenly saw a zombie blocking their path. It was a black-haired girl with a curvaceous figure, dressed in a white gown, her eyes icy blue and her expression indifferent. Her aura was even more stunning than Yu Qiuchi—she was the epitome of an ice-cold beauty.
Yet Gu Lang dared not underestimate her. “That look... This zombie must have a skill!”
Just as Gu Lang spoke, a sudden whistling sound cut through the air. Instinctively, he retreated. With his speed of 12, he tilted his head—an ice spike flew past his cheek at terrifying velocity, burying itself deep in a nearby utility pole, piercing straight through the concrete!
My god! What’s going on? She’s firing ice spikes! The power was nearly on par with armor-piercing rounds! Could she be a silver-level zombie?
Gu Lang’s eyes widened. At that moment, her stats appeared before him:
[Name: Li Mu Wan]
[Charm: 15]
[Speed: 15]
[Strength: 17]
[Intelligence: 18]
[Skill: Ice Spike Technique]
Li Mu Wan!
Suddenly, Gu Lang remembered. Wasn’t this the daughter of the city’s richest man?
