Chapter 63: Has the Person Really Disappeared?
“Rest assured, with me here, even if they harbor such intentions, they’ll have to consider whether they’re qualified to negotiate terms with me.” Lin Li hadn’t given a second thought to the concerns weighing on Leng Ningxue’s mind.
He cared little for the internal affairs of the Leng family.
To Lin Li, everything was now firmly within his grasp—that alone was enough.
He then withdrew a bank card directly from the system space, one that held two billion.
“There are two billion in here. That should be more than sufficient to handle many of your upcoming problems.”
Though Leng Ningxue had come to Lin Li seeking help for precisely this matter, she hadn’t expected him to be so forthright—her most urgent predicament resolved in the blink of an eye.
Seeing her stunned and at a loss, Lin Li simply placed the card in her hand.
“What’s wrong? Do you think things have unfolded too strangely to believe?”
Watching her now, Lin Li could guess at her thoughts.
Had the same thing happened to him, he’d likely feel the same.
But Lin Li truly had no ulterior motive; he simply wished to steady Leng Ningxue’s situation through this gesture.
He knew none of those people ever considered a better way to deal with her.
Now, at least, she could secure her position within Star Group.
“Even though we just agreed on everything, it’s all happening a bit too quickly,” she said. “Did you know in advance what would happen today and prepare for it?”
Leng Ningxue stared wide-eyed in disbelief, and Lin Li couldn’t help but laugh.
“To me, whether today unfolded as it did or not, cooperation between the Qin and Leng families was inevitable.”
“I know you believe Qin Guosheng’s death will inevitably be pinned on the Leng family, but under my guidance, everyone’s hatred now falls more heavily on Ye Aotian. We both know all of this was orchestrated by Qin Lang and Ye Aotian.”
“In the end, whether it’s the Qin family or the Leng family, they’re merely victims in this matter.”
His words rang true.
Lin Li had always been more clear-sighted about his choices than anyone.
At present, though the situation was perhaps more complex than he’d anticipated, as long as his plan unfolded smoothly, Ye Aotian’s arrangements would be thoroughly disrupted.
“I originally thought negotiating with you would require some sacrifice on my part,” Leng Ningxue murmured, “but I never imagined you’d already set everything in motion ahead of time.”
She found herself increasingly unable to read him. Moments ago, she’d thought all their dealings were simply a matter of exchanging interests. Yet Lin Li’s actions revealed it was all part of his prearranged plan.
This man had never been quite as she imagined.
“From one perspective, it could indeed be seen as a mutual exchange of interests,” Lin Li said. “But for me, there’s nothing wrong with what I’m doing. This move earns me a steadfast partner, and that’s something truly worthwhile.”
…
Just as Ye Aotian thought he’d finally win Leng Ningxue over, he hurried to Leng Huaze’s hotel full of anticipation.
But when he opened the private room, he was dumbstruck.
The entire room was empty—there wasn’t a soul in sight.
He immediately summoned Chen Along.
“You told me she was here the whole time?”
“Look carefully—do you see anyone else in this room?”
Chen Along pulled Leng Huaze over.
“I was very clear with you before, wasn’t I? Are you absolutely certain only Lin Li left, and no one else followed?”
Leng Huaze was visibly shaken by the scene. He quickly called all his men over.
“Mr. Ye, we were all here watching. Lin Li and Leng Ningxue had a huge argument—apparently over an uneven distribution, so their opinions clashed. Afterward, I saw Lin Li storm out, but he was alone.”
Ye Aotian frowned at Leng Huaze, still unable to believe it.
What kind of joke was this? How could a living, breathing person simply vanish?
He knew there were some special tricks in this world, but surely not to this extent.
Leng Huaze’s mood was equally grim.
He’d assumed everything would be resolved smoothly; never had he imagined things would turn out like this.
“You’re telling me a living person just disappeared in front of you?”
“And this is the third floor. We were watching outside the whole time—no one ever left. You’d better give me a satisfactory explanation, or I’ll twist your head off and use it as a chamber pot.”
Ye Aotian was hot-tempered—everything he’d planned had ended in disaster.
It was strange, too; he’d always been healthy, yet now of all times, he was plagued with stomach trouble.
Seeing Ye Aotian’s furious expression, Leng Huaze could only look innocent.
If he knew what had happened, he wouldn’t be standing here.
Just then, a young man nearby tugged at Ye Aotian and explained, “There’s surveillance throughout. If you don’t believe us, Mr. Ye, you can check the cameras.”
They hurried to the monitoring room, and sure enough, the footage only showed Lin Li behaving oddly—there was no sign of Leng Ningxue.
Now, even Ye Aotian was speechless. He’d suspected these men had set him up, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Could it be Leng Ningxue had truly vanished into thin air?
With this thought, Ye Aotian immediately instructed Leng Huaze, “Contact her right now.”
“I refuse to believe a living person can simply disappear.”
Ye Aotian was fuming.
But when Leng Huaze called, Leng Ningxue answered quickly.
Leng Huaze looked even more helplessly at Ye Aotian—everything was clear now. This was just trouble for trouble’s sake. It had never been as complicated as he made it sound.
Ye Aotian fell silent.
Had he really misunderstood everything?
The thought filled him with resignation.
Meanwhile, on the other end, Leng Ningxue hung up the phone. “You were right—he just called to ask where I was.”
