“Are you out of your mind? You know full well this man is nothing good, yet now you’re asking me to help him.”
“With all the trouble he’s caused in River City, the fact that he isn’t a vegetable already is more than he deserves.”
Ning Yurou looked at Leng Ningxue, voicing her confusion loudly.
She had only realized her patient was Qin Lang after Leng Ningxue called her to the hospital.
Naturally, Ning Yurou felt nothing but displeasure toward Qin Lang.
He had always behaved lawlessly and arrogantly throughout River City, making enemies wherever he went.
It was no surprise, then, that he’d finally gotten his comeuppance.
Ning Yurou saw no reason to pity him.
What she hadn’t expected was for Leng Ningxue to ask her to help.
“I know this might be hard for you to accept, but whether you believe it or not, you must admit one thing now.”
“If Qin Lang stays as he is, it will be a serious problem for me.”
If, in the past, Leng Ningxue had harbored doubts about what Lin Li said, then after all that had happened, she understood well enough where she needed to stand.
She also knew that perhaps things weren’t as dire as Lin Li made them out to be.
After all, even with Ye Aotian’s current status, the Ye family was still a far cry from her own.
And her father wanted a son-in-law who could truly transform the Leng family’s fortunes.
Ye Aotian might be strong, but that meant little to them.
Even so, Leng Ningxue wanted to avoid any unexpected incidents, and if she could secure an alliance with the Qin family, it would bolster their strength for the future.
The four great families of River City seemed harmonious on the surface, but if that balance was broken, the consequences would be disastrous.
Ning Yurou snorted coldly after hearing Leng Ningxue’s reasoning.
“You really are something. After being fooled like this, can’t you see what’s going on?”
She stared at Leng Ningxue, still unable to comprehend her thinking.
“I don’t know what kind of person Lin Li is, but anyone who gets along with Qin Lang is someone we absolutely cannot trust.”

“Everything he says is a lie.”
Leng Ningxue could only sigh.
“I know you still have your doubts about him, and that’s normal. But for the sake of our years of friendship, I hope you’ll help me.”
She knew explanations would get her nowhere; this was the only way to persuade Ning Yurou.
Though Ning Yurou was dissatisfied, there was nothing more she could say when it had come to this.
“Fine, fine. This is your business, not mine. As long as you know what you’re doing, that’s enough.”
“But if anything does go wrong, I hope you’ll stay rational.”
With these words, Ning Yurou began negotiating with the hospital.
Only then did Lin Li finally arrive, fashionably late.
Leng Ningxue told him all that had happened.
“I’ve explained everything clearly. As for how effective the treatment will be, that depends on the boy’s luck.”
“If Ning Yurou puts her mind to it, maybe he has a chance at recovery—but frankly, I think the odds are slim.”
Lin Li had no objections.
To him, whether Qin Lang walked again didn’t matter; what mattered was that the man was alive and could still speak. That was enough—everything else could be set aside for now.
“As far as I’m concerned, as long as Qin Lang can talk, that’s all we need.”
“The rest is up to us to weigh and decide.”
His tone was calm as he spoke.
Yet neither he nor Leng Ningxue realized that someone had been observing them all along.
“As I expected, you really are up to something,” Ning Yurou murmured to herself.
Though she claimed she was preparing to treat Qin Lang, she had been watching Leng Ningxue closely, convinced there was more to this than met the eye.
Sure enough, she finally pieced together the entire scheme.
Lin Li wanted to keep Qin Lang confined to a wheelchair, preventing him from meddling in Qin family affairs.
This would let Lin Li and Su Lan take control of the Qin family and continue their alliance with the Lengs.
With the Qin family’s backing, Leng Ningxue’s position within her own family would rise as well.

It was a plan set to benefit many, but for Ning Yurou, it was nothing but trouble.
She had disliked Lin Li for a long time.
Even without that, she would never want to see him control the Qin family.
She wasn’t sure why she felt this way, but her instincts told her that if Lin Li took over, none of the four great families would benefit.
Qin Guosheng hadn’t cared about his family’s standing in River City for years—they’d simply held on, biding their time.
But Lin Li would never be content with the current state of things.
Knowing this, Ning Yurou feared that Lin Li would utterly transform the Qin family, and in doing so, bring hardship to everyone else. The only option, then, was to see his plan fail.
So she began making her own arrangements.
Lin Li, meanwhile, remained unaware that Ning Yurou had seen through everything as he and Leng Ningxue spoke.
He thought as long as Qin Lang survived, everything else could be handled in his own time.
After all, Ye Aotian now believed himself victorious and would do nothing against the Qin family for now.
The restless four great families would surely test the Qin family’s strength.
Without Zhou Huaji and Qiu Bisheng, Lin Li would truly be helpless against them.
But now, with those two back and the hotheaded Fang Tai as well, they could at least suppress any would-be challengers for the time being.
It was the most prudent decision Lin Li could make after careful consideration.
He didn’t know who would have the last laugh, but simply having a chance was enough.
“I never imagined everything you predicted would come true,” Leng Ningxue said.
“But even now, I’m still curious: how did you know all those details?”
She looked at Lin Li, her eyes full of curiosity.
