Chapter 103: How Dare You Ambush Me?
Unfortunately, there was no way to know where those guys had gone. Otherwise, if the money had truly reached Ye Aotian’s hands, it could have helped him better resolve his current predicament.
After securing the project in the Lakeside District, Ye Aotian was surprised to find that developing this area was no easy task. More importantly, once development began, it required a continuous influx of funds. Although he was certain the returns after investment would be substantial, the need for ongoing capital meant that, for the time being, he simply had no other funds to allocate elsewhere.
This situation posed more of a challenge than a blessing for Ye Aotian. But after much contemplation, he realized there was no alternative.
“Drive carefully this time. Don’t go wrecking the car like last time,” Ye Aotian said sternly, glancing at John. “The cooperation we’re discussing today is very important. We can’t afford to be late.”
John was driving while asking, “Young master, where do you think those guys from Luoshan River have gone? How could they just disappear at such a critical moment?”
Ye Aotian rolled his eyes in frustration. If only he knew the truth behind this matter. But so far, there was no intelligence that could shed light on the situation. Everything was left to speculation. No one could say what the outcome would be.
“They’re probably delayed for some reason and can’t meet us on time,” Ye Aotian said helplessly. “But since they’ve already arrived in Jiangcheng, it’s only a matter of time before we meet.”
He had already informed his foster father about this, hoping he would take it seriously. The Star Palace organization’s communication methods had their pros and cons, but to Ye Aotian, the drawbacks far outweighed the benefits. Unfortunately, his foster father remained steadfast, unwilling to change the current way the Star Palace arranged meetings.
This left Ye Aotian exasperated, but he had no authority to alter the situation and had to endure it in silence. After all, the Luoshan River incident was a clear example of the risks involved.
Fortunately, Ye Aotian knew Luoshan River and his group. Otherwise, encountering those guys would have left them unable to communicate.
John said nothing further. Suddenly, halfway through the drive, John slammed on the brakes.
Startled and unprepared, Ye Aotian crashed directly into the seatback in front of him.
“Damn it! Didn’t I tell you to drive carefully? What the hell is going on now?” Ye Aotian shouted angrily.
John’s voice turned serious. “Young master, this is bad. It looks like we’ve been ambushed.”
Ye Aotian laughed. He simply couldn’t believe anyone would be foolish enough to try ambushing them here. It was like lighting a fire in a restroom—looking for trouble.
“I’ve been in Jiangcheng all this time and haven’t seen a single person with the guts to do something like this,” he said coldly. “Seems I didn’t show enough strength before, or they wouldn’t have dared.”
He guessed this was Lin Li’s doing. Stepping out of the car, Ye Aotian called out, “Everyone, come out. We’ve known you were here for a while now. If you have something to say, let’s talk it out.”
Then, from the shadows, Fang Tai appeared, lighting a cigarette.
“I knew it would be Lin Li causing trouble at such a critical moment,” Ye Aotian said confidently.
Fang Tai sneered. “Ye Aotian, you keep provoking our brother Lin. Do you really think you can stay out of this?”
“I’m here to teach you a lesson, to show you what happens when you oppose our brother Lin.”
“No matter if it’s the King of Heaven or anyone else coming, no one can save you today,” Fang Tai said sharply, brandishing a long spear.
Ye Aotian remained unfazed. He knew the caliber of experts Lin Li could summon. Besides, he had dispatched previous warriors with just a few words. If Lin Li foolishly hired assassins again at a high price, Ye Aotian would have no hesitation in dealing with them.
John warned quietly, “Young master, be careful. There are indeed some formidable experts hidden among them.”
Ye Aotian then noticed five masked figures standing beside Fang Tai. Around them, several other martial artists had also gathered, clearly prepared for a major confrontation. They intended to use this opportunity to teach him a lesson.
Ye Aotian’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected them to act so swiftly.
...
Meanwhile, Lin Li stood on the balcony of his villa, gazing into the distance with a feeling of refreshment.
“If you’re so worried, why don’t you go see for yourself?” Su Lan asked. “If anything happens, you can take action immediately.”
Lin Li shook his head. “Not everything requires my direct intervention.”
“I prefer controlling the entire situation from a distance,” he said calmly. Under the current circumstances, he actually felt quite satisfied.
His opponent was smarter than he had imagined, but Lin Li’s own abilities were beyond what they could anticipate.
Su Lan knew Lin Li was anxious. If Fang Tai’s plan failed, they would have to face Luoshan River and his group. Even though Lin Li had helped them recently, if things came to blows, he wouldn’t hold back at all.
It all depended on whether Lin Li’s plan succeeded.
“While I’m at it, I’ll stop by Yixuan Beauty Salon,” Lin Li said. “If things go south, I can call on help at a crucial moment.”
He smiled, shared a tender moment with Su Lan, then left.
On the other side, Ye Aotian had started out confident but grew troubled when he realized he was surrounded by so many people.
Fang Tai had come specifically to cause trouble for him. This secluded road, combined with prior warning to others, meant no one else would come, giving them ample room to act.
Half an hour was more than enough to take Ye Aotian down.
And that time was rapidly running out.
