At this moment, Ouyang Junyan’s breathing slowed. A second later, he seemed to realize something, deliberately turned his head, and glanced at Fang Zhiyin, asking, “Are you alright?”

“I… I’m OK!” That recent drift had been so fast it nearly made her sick. But she held back—she couldn’t afford to embarrass herself.

The two of them fell silent.

Ouyang Junyan drove onward for a while, noticing that the cars behind them had finally disappeared. He let out a sigh of relief. “It’s fine now. Looks like the danger’s passed.”

“Why would anyone chase us?” Fang Zhiyin asked uncertainly. “It’s so strange!”

“Did I offend someone recently?” Ouyang Junyan hesitated before voicing the question. After all, he had only just learned about his split personality, and had no clue what the other personas might have done when he wasn’t in control of his body.

Fang Zhiyin stared at him in disbelief. “I don’t think so.”

“That’s good.” Ouyang Junyan’s eyes dimmed. “If it’s my fault and I’ve dragged you into it, I’m really sorry.”

“What are you talking about?” Fang Zhiyin couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. “What do you mean, ‘dragged you into it’? What do you mean, ‘sorry’? Don’t you realize how hurtful those words are?”

Ouyang Junyan stared at her, stunned.

Just as he was about to say something to make amends, he spotted the silver car inexplicably catching up again. “What’s going on?!”

Now, not only was a car behind them, but another black car was pulling up alongside.

“Ah! Why are there two cars?!” Fang Zhiyin instantly forgot they’d just been arguing and screamed reflexively.

Terrifying! Were they filming a movie?

Ouyang Junyan’s face grew taut. He muttered, “Looks like we have no choice but to try and break through!”

With the two cars boxing them in front and behind, Ouyang Junyan had no way out. The black car swerved aggressively, forcing him to brake hard. Both he and Fang Zhiyin were jolted painfully by their seat belts.

Ouyang Junyan had no choice but to stop the car.

The two pursuers halted as well.

Soon after, a heavyset woman with an unfriendly expression emerged from the black car.

She strode directly to Ouyang Junyan. Spotting him and Fang Zhiyin together in the same car, she looked devastated. “Ouyang, you’ve disappointed me so much!”

Both Ouyang Junyan and Fang Zhiyin were startled.

The next moment, Ouyang Junyan looked at his wife. “Zhiyin, I’ve never seen this woman before!”

By heaven and earth, Ouyang Junyan wanted to swear to Fang Zhiyin: he was telling the truth!

“Ouyang, are you sure you don’t know her?” Fang Zhiyin asked.

“I really don’t!” Ouyang Junyan shouted in frustration.

But before they could react, the heavyset woman suddenly lost control, grabbed something, and hurled it at Ouyang Junyan’s car.

The window immediately went pitch black…

The two of them jumped in alarm, and after regaining their composure, realized the woman had flung filthy excrement at their car!

Ouyang Junyan’s eyes widened in fury, and he immediately got out.

The heavyset woman, after throwing the filth, quickly fled. But before leaving, her voice echoed, “Ouyang, this is only the beginning! Just you wait!”

What?!

Was that a threat?

Seeing the filthy window, Fang Zhiyin couldn’t help herself—she leaned out and vomited until her head spun.

“Stop right there!” Ouyang Junyan tried to give chase but only saw the heavyset woman dart into the silver car. The driver sped off, leaving him no chance to catch up.

He ran a few steps in vain and had to give up.

“Ouyang, let it go!” After vomiting, Fang Zhiyin called out to him in distress.

Hearing his wife’s words, Ouyang Junyan immediately returned to the car. Only then did he realize she had just thrown up; he quickly handed her tissues, unsure how to comfort her.

“I must’ve caused trouble without realizing it,” Ouyang Junyan said apologetically.

“Let’s just go home…” Fang Zhiyin wanted to figure out what was happening, but for now… it was best to return. She muttered quietly.

On the way back, neither spoke.

Ouyang Junyan’s car was worth over a million, and now, for no apparent reason, it had been doused with excrement. Fang Zhiyin thought he must be feeling awful.

Moreover, since he believed it was his fault, his mood must be even lower.

She wanted to say something to him, but she was still so frightened, trembling, and after vomiting, she felt utterly drained.

Suddenly, Ouyang Junyan freed one hand and placed it gently over the back of hers, trying to calm her.

His hand was large and warm.

In the past, Ouyang Junyan had never done anything like this for her.

In this moment, Fang Zhiyin felt an inexplicable ache in her nose. Her heart was full of anxiety—so much had happened lately, leaving her no time to recover or catch her breath, striking her utterly unprepared.

Especially now, she couldn’t be sure when Ouyang Junyan might “transform”—perhaps tender and loving one moment, vicious and cruel the next.

As she was lost in thought, Ouyang Junyan quickly withdrew his hand, sparing her any embarrassment.

“Where should we go now?” Fang Zhiyin asked.

“Let’s get the car washed first.”

“Yes, the car wash!”

That really was the most pressing issue.

Ouyang Junyan fell silent for a moment, as if he wanted to say something.

Fang Zhiyin cut him off, “If you’re about to apologize again, you don’t need to.”

“Then…”

“Just wash the car.”

“Alright.”

It took a long time at the car wash.

The workers eyed them suspiciously, probably wondering what could have happened to make someone throw excrement at such an expensive car.

While they waited, Fang Zhiyin saw Ouyang Junyan slip into the convenience store next door and buy a lighter and a pack of cigarettes.

“You smoke?” she asked, shocked—she’d never seen him do so before.

“Rarely, only occasionally,” Ouyang Junyan replied calmly.

“How come I didn’t know you smoked?”

“You don’t need to know everything about me, do you?” Ouyang Junyan retorted.

“Aren’t we husband and wife?”

For reasons she couldn’t explain, Fang Zhiyin felt a surge of anger. She’d always believed Ouyang Junyan kept everything hidden; in truth, it made sense—he never loved her, and had made it clear when they married that he hoped she would help him. What else could she expect? But still, she felt sadness and disappointment.

At least, right now, she did.

“We are husband and wife.” After a while, Ouyang Junyan spoke up, his tone noticeably softer. “As for the things about me you don’t know… I’ll tell you, little by little, in time.”
