Chapter Thirty-Six: Let's Ride the Ferris Wheel Together!

Who could have guessed that Lin Nana would suddenly receive a phone call, saying she had something urgent and needed to return to school.

“What?” Ouyang Junyan hurriedly asked, “What’s happened? Should I go back with you?”

Lin Nana’s gaze flickered, as if hiding something she couldn’t easily explain.

At that moment, she glanced backward, once again noticing Fang Zhiyin standing not far behind them in the queue.

Yes, Lin Nana was sensitive and perceptive. From the moment she and Ouyang Junyan entered the amusement park, she saw that Fang Zhiyin, just as she had when they went on their seaside date, was quietly following them.

She saw it, but simply chose not to tell Ouyang Junyan.

Ouyang Junyan followed her gaze and instantly spotted Fang Zhiyin. “Big sister…”

He hadn’t mentioned to Lin Nana that he had bumped into Fang Zhiyin just moments ago.

“Ouyang, I have to go now,” Lin Nana said to him, “but you can go on this ride with Sister Fang! It’s such a shame to leave when we’ve finally reached the front of the line.”

Who would have thought Lin Nana would be so generous? Perhaps because she believed Fang Zhiyin posed no threat to her. Moreover, she felt her actions might make Ouyang Junyan experience that bittersweet sense of uncertainty.

“We’re all friends, aren’t we?” Lin Nana smiled sweetly at him. “Alright, I’m off now—so sorry! Next time, dinner’s on me!” With that, she turned and left.

Ouyang Junyan was left utterly bewildered.

Not long after, Fang Zhiyin moved swiftly to stand before Ouyang Junyan. “I just saw your date leave.”

“Mm…” After a few seconds, Ouyang Junyan stared in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you played some trick to make Nana leave on purpose?”

“Tsk tsk!” Fang Zhiyin was already used to eighteen-year-old Ouyang’s suspicious nature and didn’t take offense. “Maybe she had another appointment she forgot about!” she said offhandedly.

Ouyang Junyan’s face grew even greener with frustration!

“I’m taking one for the team—let’s ride the Ferris wheel together!” Seeing his irritation, Fang Zhiyin couldn’t help but laugh, teasing him once more.

“I don’t want to ride with you!” he huffed.

“When we’re on the Ferris wheel, take out your phone and snap a photo with me, then send it to Lin Nana. If she really cares about you, she’ll be worried for sure.” Fang Zhiyin spoke calmly, as if she had anticipated his reaction.

“Huh?” Ouyang Junyan was half skeptical. “If she’s worried, why did she rush off?”

Everyone said maybe she just forgot about her other commitments! Fang Zhiyin silently grumbled to herself, “Maybe she truly had something urgent to handle. And she’s so understanding, she wouldn’t want you to be left alone here. Since you’re already at the amusement park, go ahead and have fun with me, take some photos to provoke her a little—let her realize her true feelings for you, isn’t that a good thing…”

As she spoke, Fang Zhiyin herself began to be moved by her own words.

Truly the mark of a novelist!

Perhaps others wouldn’t easily believe such logic, but eighteen-year-old Ouyang Junyan, after thinking it over, found Big Sister’s reasoning rather convincing.

A red compartment stopped in front of them.

Fang Zhiyin stepped in first. Ouyang Junyan hesitated, but the staff urged him, “Sir?”

He had no choice but to climb aboard.

The door closed. They sat on opposite sides.

“Big Sister, I’m only doing this because I have no choice…” Ouyang Junyan pouted like a child.

“Alright, alright!” Fang Zhiyin said as she pulled out her phone, aiming it at his handsome face. “Come on, give me a smile! Don’t make that sour face!”

“What are you doing?”

“I told you—I’m taking a photo! Otherwise, what will Lin Nana see?” Fang Zhiyin spoke with confidence.

Hearing Lin Nana’s name, most of Ouyang Junyan’s anger melted away, and he managed a smile for her camera.

Though it was a perfunctory, bitter smile, his striking looks made even a bitter smile charming.

Fang Zhiyin took a deep breath. No matter how many different personalities she had seen in this man, at this moment, he still made her heart flutter.

Annoying!

The compartment began to rise slowly, moving at a gentle pace. Soft music drifted through the air, as if the whole world had slowed down.

It was Fang Zhiyin’s first time on a Ferris wheel. Though she used to fear heights, at this moment, she wasn’t afraid at all. She suddenly loved this feeling.

“Big Sister, what are you thinking about?” Ouyang Junyan asked in surprise, seeing Fang Zhiyin lost in bliss.

Fang Zhiyin didn’t answer. Instead, she crossed the compartment and sat beside him.

Ouyang Junyan’s body instantly tensed!

The next moment, she turned her head and quietly watched him, sensing his trembling and unease. A boy in the throes of first love—so easily nervous.

Fang Zhiyin couldn’t help but laugh, then asked, “Let me ask you something.”

“What?” Ouyang Junyan was so nervous he blurted out internet slang.

“If you hadn’t met Lin Nana first, would you ever consider me?” Fang Zhiyin asked on a whim, just voicing her sudden thought.

“Ah?!” Ouyang Junyan had never heard such a direct question; he gaped silently.

But his face grew redder and redder, nearly bursting with embarrassment.

Fang Zhiyin giggled, finding his reaction adorable.

Liking someone—it’s natural to want to glimpse their past self! When she met Ouyang Junyan, he was already in his twenties; she’d never seen what he was like as a teenager.

Ouyang Junyan mulled over her sensitive question for ages, unable to find a response! Yet Fang Zhiyin seemed to have forgotten her own question, sitting quietly at his side, gazing intently out the window.

Outside, the sky was a deep, clear blue, so close it seemed you could reach out and touch it.

As the Ferris wheel neared its highest point, Fang Zhiyin suddenly exclaimed with delight, “When the Ferris wheel reaches the top—when we’re closest to the sky—let’s make a wish. I’ve heard it’s especially effective.”

Ouyang Junyan was dumbfounded. Wasn’t it only little boys and girls who believed wishes made atop a Ferris wheel would come true?
