Chapter 155: The Five-Year Condition
"I actually have an idea that can help Wang Yining avoid prison," Vermin suggested.
"Let's hear it then, and stop joking around," Mo Shu said earnestly.
"Let me take her with me, to Europe, to hide out for a while."
"Big sis, isn't that still taking her back to be a subject for human experiments?" Mo Shu grew a bit anxious.
"Who said that? I promise you I won't touch a single hair on her head, but she can work for me, right?" Vermin began negotiating terms.
"What kind of work?"
"How about helping me train drivers? I'll treat her to the finest food and lodging," Vermin guaranteed.
"Really? Good food and lodging?"
"Definitely! Treated like royalty!"
"Hmm, in that case, I might consider it," Mo Shu mused.
"However, I have one more condition," Vermin added as a supplement.
"Go ahead."
"Five years. Wang Yining must work for me for five years, and none of you are to meet with her frequently." Vermin wore a serious expression.
"Why? Not even meeting? Are you planning to place her under house arrest?" Mo Shu was almost ready to drop the idea of asking Vermin for help.
"Please listen carefully, it's not that you can't meet, just not frequently."
"That still won't do."
"Let me put it this way: besides needing Wang Yining to help me train drivers, I also have plans to cultivate her own potential. After all, she is blessed with the System, and in the future, she might just fill the vacancy of the Six Realms Heavenly Venerables. Therefore, frequent meetings will interfere with her training, rather than anything out of sinister motives. Those are my demands, is that really so unreasonable?" Vermin's attitude while saying this appeared extremely sincere, and the position of a Six Realms Heavenly Venerable managed to stir Mo Shu's heart just a little.
Although the strength of the "Four Principal Gods" was not a bit inferior to the "Six Realms Heavenly Venerables," in terms of fame, the Principal Gods still had a certain distance to go compared to the Heavenly Venerables.
After all, Mo Shu and the others had just entered the racing world not long ago, and when it came to the packaging and marketing of racing teams and drivers, they were still very much at the beginner stage.
The Vermin family was different, however. They possessed a complete, mature packaging system and promotional channels.
To put it simply, as long as the Vermin family was willing, even an ordinary person who had just received their driver's license could, under the operation of the Vermin family, become a "rising star" capturing the attention of the entire racing world in a matter of minutes.
Of course, the moment they stepped onto the track, they would still need to rely on true skill, but the promotional capability of the Vermin family was undeniably formidable.
If Wang Yining joined the Vermin family, her future would truly be limitless. Five years later, when Wang Yining returned to the Deity Racing Team, she would also bring back the advanced technology and models of the Vermin family. That would simply be too wonderful.
As he thought about it, Mo Shu secretly smiled to himself.
"Then I'll go back and ask for her opinion. I haven't mentioned this to her yet," Mo Shu said, suppressing his joy.
"You haven't even asked for her opinion, and you've been running your mouth with me here?" This time Vermin grew anxious instead, thinking to herself that Mo Shu was simply playing with her.
"Uh... don't be angry. It's not like I knew beforehand that you were willing to help, right?" Mo Shu explained.
"Phew... Fine. If there's still time, I'm flying to Europe the morning after tomorrow. Give me an answer beforehand." Vermin rolled her eyes, pulled out her cosmetics, and began touching up her makeup.
"Alright, wait for my reply, and thank you!" Mo Shu didn't forget to express his gratitude before leaving.
"You're welcome..." Vermin still replied coldly. "Anyway, I owe you a pretty big favor, and we might have had some misunderstandings before. Let's hope we can cooperate in the future."
Never had they expected that the normally aloof Vermin would take the initiative to show goodwill in a detached tone while simultaneously revealing an intention to cooperate, which both Wang Yu and Mo Shu found very surprising.
"Right, hopefully there will be a chance for cooperation..." Mo Shu, caught off guard by this sudden display of goodwill, gave a vague response and pulled Wang Yu toward the exit.
After another round of hassle—first stepping in and out of the elevator, then waiting for someone to unlock the secret door—they finally made it back to the entrance of "Minmin Convenience."
Mo Shu was debating whether to hail a cab back to the hospital or just walk all the way when that pink MPV swooped in and stopped right in front of them once more with a whoosh.
Mo Shu looked at Wang Yu, and Wang Yu looked back at Mo Shu.
"Heh, when you help someone, help them all the way to the end. Get in the car!"
"No! No matter what you say, I am not going with that Vermin!"
Wang Yining's stubborn, angry roar echoed through the entire hallway of the inpatient ward.
"Shh, don't disturb the rest of the patients," Mo Shu pulled Wang Yining along, trying desperately to persuade her.
"I'm not going, no matter what."
Realizing she had lost her composure, Wang Yining lowered her voice and refused.
"Just listen to me."
"I won't listen."
"It's a good thing for you."
"Still not going."
"You are so stubborn."
"What do you mean by that? Are you getting tired of being with me, so you're packing me off to Europe just to make it convenient for you to find some new girl for yourself, huh? Go on, tell me, who have you taken a fancy to?" Wang Yining's face flushed red with anger.
"How could that be? How could I ever take a fancy to anyone else? Even if I did, I wouldn't have the time to look for them. Don't you know how busy I am?" Mo Shu explained with a哭笑不得 (laughing-through-tears) expression.
"Hmph, so you admit it! You just want to send me away!"
"Oh, my ancestors, will you please stop taking things out of context? If you don't go to Europe, nine times out of ten you'll end up behind bars."
"I'm willing to! Even if it means prison, I'm willing."
"You... I... All my well-intentioned efforts have gone to waste... Sigh..." Seeing that he couldn't persuade Wang Yining, Mo Shu could only let out a long sigh and sat down nearby, troubled all by himself.
Wang Yining stopped talking as well, gazing out the window with a furrowed brow, lost in thought.
The room instantly fell silent—so quiet that they could practically hear their own heartbeats.
Mo Shu troubledly scratched his head. He had acted entirely out of good intentions, only to be met with a mountain of misunderstandings from Wang Yining. Right now, he felt the suffocating grievance of having grievances too deep to voice and tears too heavy to shed.
It wasn't that Wang Yining failed to appreciate Mo Shu's good intentions; she simply didn't want to leave Mo Shu, nor did she want to follow Vermin all the way to Europe.
Although it had been confirmed that Vermin's plot against Black Mirror and Zhao Kunlun was the result of being framed by Ruselein, Wang Yining still felt that since Vermin had mixed with someone as bad as Ruselein, she surely couldn't be a good person either.
Anyway, she simply refused to go, and she wouldn't go even if it meant rotting in prison!
Wang Yining's stubbornness was well-known, and Mo Shu knew this better than anyone.
Just as he was worrying over how to find another angle to persuade her, a rhythmic knock sounded on the door.
"Come in..." Mo Shu listlessly crawled back onto the bed, otherwise the nurse would lecture him again about not properly resting.
The door swung open in response, and an aloof, stunning beauty appeared at the doorway of the ward.
"Hmph, the new girl you picked out has come to see you," Wang Yining muttered with displeasure.
"My goodness, please stop talking nonsense, this person is Vermin herself," Mo Shu said, trying desperately to control his shock.
Who could have guessed that Vermin would come to the hospital to visit? Mo Shu had a premonition that the misunderstanding was only going to deepen now, and when that time came, even if he jumped into the Yellow River, he wouldn't be able to wash himself clean. No! He had to say something!
Vermin walked into the ward with her hands in her pockets and an air of haughty elegance.
Behind her followed three burly men: one holding flowers, one carrying a bag, and a third carrying two large bags filled with snacks and drinks.
"Mo Shu, these are all brought straight from the convenience store. Eat them quickly, or they'll expire." Vermin glanced at Mo Shu, and without giving him a chance to reply, she continued, "However, I'm not here to visit you today. The purpose of my trip..."
Before finishing her sentence, Vermin's gaze had already shifted toward Wang Yining, who was still standing by the window with her back to them, puffing her cheeks in anger.
