Chapter 145: The Explosive Assault
“Old Wang, do you think what she said is believable?” Mo Shu asked, trying to steady his nerves.
“It doesn’t seem like a lie. Why would Vermin concoct such an elaborate story to deceive us? Besides, what she described actually happened here,” Wang Yu said, pulling out his phone. The screen displayed his sister Wang Qing’s name, but all he heard when he called was the “phone turned off” message.
“Have you tried contacting Geng Hua? What about Wang Yining?” Mo Shu pressed, unwilling to give up.
Wang Yu shook his head; it was clear he had already tried reaching out to everyone.
If Vermin wasn’t lying, then the other three members of the Divine Team should be on a plane heading back to the country right now.
With no other options, Wang Yu began scrolling through his contacts, trying to reach each member of the Divine Team.
Finally, they got an answer from the team’s engineer.
According to him, two nights ago, Wang Yining received a message from Wang Yu: “All drivers on the team, depart immediately today, return to Nanshan urgently!” The message was brief and cryptic.
Although puzzled, Wang Yining didn’t suspect fraud because the message came from Wang Yu’s account. But when she replied with questions, there was no response.
Later, she found that neither Mo Shu nor Wang Yu’s phones could be reached, and she lacked contact information for their relatives nearby.
Because time was pressing, Wang Yu emphasized “urgent” again in the WeChat message.
With no choice, Wang Yining and the others decided on their own to board a flight back home during the ERC transition period.
“Damn it! Could my WeChat account have been hacked?” Wang Yu muttered, having been too busy to check earlier. Not only his, but Mo Shu’s WeChat also showed incorrect password warnings.
It seemed Vermin was right: since Guan Mie was skilled in racing radio engineering and technology, he probably had many ways to crack their social accounts.
If so, the other three of the Six Realms Sovereigns were likely caught in similar traps.
By tomorrow, Mount Cloud Peak would undoubtedly be bustling, with all the world’s top drivers gathered.
But the more experts that showed up, wouldn’t that put Guan Mie in a more passive position?
They still couldn’t figure out what Guan Mie’s true intentions were.
“Look!” Mo Shu suddenly stood and hurried to the floor-to-ceiling window, then exclaimed in surprise.
Wang Yu squinted, following Mo Shu’s gaze.
A hunched figure stood beneath the office building, waving as if deliberately trying to get their attention.
Though the face was hidden, who else could have such a decrepit frame but Guan Mie? They could think of no other.
“Ring~~~”
Mo Shu’s phone rang again.
“Uncle, what the hell are you up to?” Mo Shu blurted out, frowning.
“Heh heh, young man, don’t be so impatient. Let me explain slowly,” Guan Mie said smugly over the speakerphone, rambling on incessantly.
After hanging up, Mo Shu muttered in confusion, “Is this old man mentally unstable?”
But Wang Yu’s face turned pale. “He definitely is. What do you think we should do now?”
“What can we do? We have to listen to him, or else we’re all dead,” Mo Shu sneered.
Wang Yu bit his lip and picked up the phone again. “Should we call the police?”
Mo Shu quickly grabbed Wang Yu’s hand and pressed it down, shouting, “Are you crazy? He just said if we call the police, he’ll blow up Mount Cloud Peak and everyone in the audience!”
“I doubt this old man’s claim. Does he really have eyes everywhere? Could he have rigged the entire mountain with explosives?” Wang Yu said skeptically.
“Brother, I know his methods better than you. You don’t realize how many lives he’s destroyed,” Mo Shu said grimly, referring to the system and his people.
“So what do you suggest?” Wang Yu asked, seeing Mo Shu’s fierce opposition as he tossed the phone aside.
“What else can we do? Once everyone’s gathered, we’ll hold a meeting and decide,” Mo Shu said, slamming his palm hard on the table in frustration.
...
Half an hour later, the track was cleared and the race finally resumed smoothly.
But Mo Shu and Wang Yu had long lost interest in what was happening on the course.
The office fell into a heavy silence.
After a long while, Mo Shu stood again and looked out the window, noticing the dozens of cars Guan Mie had brought were now evenly stationed around the arena.
Each vehicle was flanked by two or three men in black, vigilantly scanning the surroundings as if preventing anyone from sneaking away.
At the same time, the big screen at the venue flickered, and the live broadcast of the race abruptly stopped.
The excited crowd erupted in confusion, not knowing what was going on.
After a moment, the screen lit up again, showing an empty podium arranged like a press conference setup.
A figure suddenly flashed across the camera, followed by coughing sounds; the man was circling the podium, preparing to speak.
Judging by the silhouette, it was a middle-aged man, but his face was hidden.
The audience buzzed with curiosity, speculating it might be a special event arranged by the organizers.
Once the man stopped moving, the lights brightened, and the crowd gasped: the man wore a terrifying mask.
The mask’s face was black with red eyes, fangs bared, and a rubber tongue about twenty centimeters long dangled from the mouth, swaying side to side.
“Wow!”
Children in the stands began crying, and parents complained about the “boring prank.”
Ordinary people couldn’t understand the significance, but Mo Shu and Wang Yu’s teeth clenched in hatred for Guan Mie.
“Dear friends, hello!” Guan Mie began.
“Hello my ass!”
“You scared my child to death!”
“Damn it, you even scared my wife! What kind of trash organizers are you?”
The crowd was enraged but unaware they were already in grave danger.
“I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?” Guan Mie’s tone was smug.
“By the way, that was just polite talk—I’m not asking for your opinion,” he continued. “The good news is, you’re in for a treat: the world’s top drivers will all be here tomorrow. You’ll get to see something truly spectacular.”
“As for the bad news, apologies to everyone present, but I’ve already planted a large amount of explosives inside the venue. If any of you make a reckless move, I will detonate them and kill you all!” Guan Mie almost lost control and laughed arrogantly.
“Come on! Detonate one and let me see!” someone in the crowd shouted defiantly, pointing at the big screen and challenging Guan Mie loudly.
