Chapter 125: A Farce Unfolds
Mo Shu’s driving skills were well recognized. Yet now it seemed his stamina on foot was equally impressive. Maneuvering with the graceful Lin Mei—a living, breathing person—in a deft dance of dodges and swift turns, today he truly gave it his all.
Still, an old saying held true: two fists cannot match four hands. Especially when the opposition had three people surrounding them, and another, Wang Liang, was lurking unseen somewhere.
Sure enough, just as Mo Shu and Lin Mei were about to secure the final token, Wang Liang finally emerged from behind a display case and swiftly snatched it away.
A trap! It was all a trap!
The Dark Legion had used the token to bait other guests; three handled the encirclement while the fourth lay in ambush to ensure no one else could claim the prize.
Such a scheme was obvious upon reflection. They could only blame themselves for their eagerness to win, having neglected to carefully observe the token’s surroundings.
Mo Shu and Lin Mei exchanged a look of regret, both chastising their impulsiveness and reckless choice.
Now, not only had the token slipped from their grasp, but they were completely surrounded, trapped on all sides with no escape.
Seeing the situation was hopeless, Mo Shu finally halted, ready to rest briefly. Fortunately, surrendering one token would restore their freedom. If they handed over one token per person, all their prior efforts would be in vain.
“It’s alright, just one token. Let them have it,” Lin Mei said nonchalantly.
But anyone could hear the sour undertone in her voice, betraying her inner dissatisfaction.
Of course, it was understandable—the sudden assault by these four had injured Lin Mei earlier; now they reappeared like unwelcome ghosts. Her irritation was only natural.
Seeing Lin Mei’s displeasure, Mo Shu awkwardly smiled at the four assailants. He took a token from his pocket and extended it towards Wang Liang with an expression of sincere willingness to accept misfortune, hoping to quickly defuse the tense standoff.
Though Lin Mei’s vexation was palpable, Wang Liang seemed understanding and cooperative, knowing better than to offend a senior like Lin Mei. After all, they were all insiders—who knew when they might work together someday.
“Sorry about this, Mo Shu,” Wang Liang said politely, reaching out for the token.
“It’s just a game; no need for formalities,” Mo Shu replied courteously.
But just as the token changed hands, an idiot muttered quietly nearby, “Getting mad over a game? Such narrow-mindedness…”
Mo Shu paused mid-air, realizing the words were clearly aimed at Lin Mei. The place wasn’t noisy—did the speaker not fear being overheard?
Sure enough, as Mo Shu expected, a cold voice rang out behind him.
“Who said that?” Lin Mei’s face flushed from blue to purple.
The famous star was about to blow up; no one dared speak.
But that voice was unmistakably male. Besides Mo Shu, only Li Dai and Wu Tianqi were nearby.
“I’m asking you two—who said it?!” Lin Mei demanded, raising her voice and glaring fiercely at the young men.
As the three exchanged glances, Li Dai panicked slightly, silently waving his hands to deny responsibility, inadvertently implicating his teammate Wu Tianqi.
Sensing the tension, Mo Shu quickly turned and intervened, “Senior, Wu Tianqi definitely wasn’t talking about you. Don’t be so sensitive.”
Lin Mei, however, seemed truly upset. At Mo Shu’s interruption, she snapped, pulling him into the fray: “Mo Shu, listen. If you want to survive in this industry, you can’t let others walk all over you. Understand?”
“Got it, got it! Please calm down first,” Mo Shu responded with a forced smile, thinking this star sometimes really had a childish streak.
Perhaps Lin Mei’s words about not being stepped on struck a chord because Wu Tianqi, who had been feeling guilty, suddenly stood with a scowl and retorted:
“Star, I’m the one who said it. I just can’t stand your arrogance now that you’re famous. I’m a rapper who just came out of the underground scene, and today I’m here to diss you!”
“Diss what? Speak plainly!” Lin Mei frowned, unfamiliar with rap slang.
“See? You don’t even understand ‘diss.’ What right do you have to lecture others?”
“No right? Today I’ll show you whether I have the right to lecture you.”
“Hmph, I know what you’re about to say—you’ll ask if I want to stay in the entertainment world and dare me to kick you out!”
“Ha, I’m not kicking you out. I just want to make sure you have no songs to sing and no roles to play!”
“Sorry, Star Lin, but you might not know this: we rappers write our own songs. No songs? That’s not easy!”
Wu Tianqi and Lin Mei went back and forth, their quarrel growing louder.
Mo Shu watched anxiously—how could Lin Mei compete with Wu Tianqi? He was a rapper; throwing diss tracks was second nature.
If this continued, Lin Mei might be driven to collapse from anger.
And Wu Tianqi shouldn’t have lost his temper and spoken so rashly earlier. Lin Mei was already injured because of them; she wasn’t even allowed to vent?
Mo Shu clearly remembered none of them had truly apologized to Lin Mei—only sorry expressions, no genuine “I’m sorry.”
Being hurt and denied an apology was intolerable, even for an ordinary person, let alone a star.
“Enough! Everyone stop arguing. No one’s really at fault. We all have our positions—it’s just a misunderstanding! Just a misunderstanding!” Mo Shu stepped forward as the peacemaker, hoping to prevent further escalation.
But a star and a former underground rapper were both formidable opponents.
Wu Tianqi quickly shifted his target, pointing at Mo Shu: “Stop talking. I don’t like you either. Lin Mei scolded you for ages, yet you still obediently follow her on missions. Where’s your dignity?”
Lin Mei shouted back, “Mo Shu! This isn’t your concern. You’ve just stepped into the entertainment industry with barely a toe in. I have my own way of handling this!”
“...”
What? Why are they both turning on me? Mo Shu felt wronged. Do you think I want to join your circle? I was happily racing. If not for Wang Yu’s repeated requests, would I have agreed to be part of this show? I’m just forced into this!
Yet, even so, Mo Shu couldn’t let this drag on endlessly. How was he supposed to clock out and go home?
Fine, you all want to throw tantrums and be stubborn? Do you think I’m a sick cat? Mo Shu’s anger surged.
“Shut—up—all of you!!!” he roared, his voice booming so loudly it made everyone’s eardrums ring.
The effect was immediate. Lin Mei and Wu Tianqi fell silent.
The other stars, crew, and cameramen all turned their lenses and gazes to Mo Shu. They thought, here comes another angry person stirring things up. This episode was proving to be wildly entertaining.
Suddenly, a series of strange crackling and popping noises erupted, followed by a sharp snap, as if something had exploded.
At the same moment, all cameras, phones, lights, and high-powered lamps—any equipment powered by electricity—ceased functioning instantly. The museum plunged into pitch-black chaos.
Mo Shu cursed under his breath. You people left me no choice but to unleash the Ling Ring’s EMP!
