Chapter 150: Apologizing Again
Zhou Tian nodded. Although there were still many things he had yet to fully understand—after all, this involved far too much, including several vast worlds—he had grasped the general outline.
“By my reckoning, the time is nearly up. At the very end, I happened to meet an interesting mortal like you to relieve my boredom. The restrictions sealing the Hall of the Gods will soon open. As for which of us is right, we will know then.”
The God King rose to his feet and waved a hand. The void before them shifted once more, and a familiar scene appeared before Zhou Tian: the interior of the Hall of the Gods.
“You are the truly interesting one, old man.”
Zhou Tian also stood and came to the God King’s side, gazing at the Hall of the Gods.
Outside, beyond the Nine Heavens, Zhou Changsheng’s blue-gold armor was covered in cracks. The armor guarding his right arm had been completely shattered, revealing a wound so deep that bone could be seen. Golden radiance streamed from it, yet a strange energy prevented his body from healing. The injury had been inflicted by the Lord of the Saint Gods, who had left behind his own peculiar power.
The Lord of the Saint Gods was in no better condition. His white robes were torn to rags, and because he had possessed a woman’s body, large areas of her skin were exposed. Yet everyone present was an ancient monster who had lived for countless years, and no one paid attention to such details.
Wei Chuan’s grandfather had unfurled a pair of scarlet wings behind him, while two fangs protruded from his mouth. His bloodline was extraordinary, and this was his strongest form. However, because he had been so severely wounded earlier, he could now display less than half his strength.
The others were wounded as well. The most grievously injured was a god from the Divine Realm, whose arm had been severed and replaced by a cyan whirlwind.
Zhou Changsheng held a small vessel in his palm. Its radiance was dazzling, violet-gold light flowing through the years, while chaotic energy surged in and out of its mouth. Though it was only the size of a palm, the veins on Zhou Changsheng’s arm bulged, and his hand even trembled slightly, as if he were supporting an ancient divine mountain.
Every eye was fixed upon the little vessel. Just moments ago, it had merely lowered its mouth slightly and swallowed hundreds of thousands of divine spirits from the Divine Kingdoms.
“A Heavenly Venerable artifact?”
The Saint God frowned slightly. A glimpse of pink showed at his chest, but he paid it no mind.
“An incomplete Heavenly Venerable artifact. Otherwise, Zhou Changsheng would have been drained dry at once.”
The God of Death added, “A notch has already appeared in my scythe, and my arm has withered almost to the bone. All my vital essence was drawn away. When I struck that vessel just now, the backlash nearly destroyed this body. If I had not withdrawn quickly enough, it would already have been ruined.”
“The foundation of the Nine Provinces is beyond anything you can imagine!”
Zhou Changsheng shone like the blazing sun, pouring all his energy into the small vessel in his hand.
“Woo…”
The violet-gold vessel rocked and emitted a howl like a ghostly sob, making everyone deeply uncomfortable. Their emotions were violently disturbed.
Then something terrifying happened. As the vessel trembled, it began devouring everything on the battlefield like a whale drinking the sea and an ox swallowing water. One dazzling streak of light after another flew toward it—each was the divine spirit of a different god.
Just moments ago, those divine spirits had filled the mountains and plains. Now they were being swallowed one after another, vanishing into the little vessel at astonishing speed.
One had to understand that, combined, these divine spirits possessed enough power to bring down entire clusters of stars. Yet now they were being devoured with ease, forcibly drawn into the vessel.
The pressure on the side of the Nine Provinces was greatly reduced. They had been unable to withstand the endless assault of divine spirits. Zhou Xunchuan and the others had long since abandoned hunting them individually, instead hiding within the military formations and waiting for opportunities to strike.
The little vessel rose slightly. A rune on its surface began to glow faintly, and dozens more such runes remained. Its devouring grew even more intense; it even began absorbing the divine spirits within the Divine Kingdoms of numerous gods through the projections of those kingdoms.
“How dare you!”
The Lord of Thunder shouted furiously. He exchanged a glance with the Saint God and the God of Death. Three streams of energy intertwined into a strange symbol, and a golden ancient spear slowly emerged.
The spear’s radiance was blinding. Its golden light illuminated the past and present, and it had once drunk the blood of a Heavenly Venerable. Its divine might was unparalleled.
“The God King Spear!”
Zhou Changsheng’s gaze narrowed. He had seen this spear mentioned in ancient records, though its true name was unknown. Since it had once been the weapon of the God King, he simply called it the God King Spear.
The Saint God reached out and grasped the spear. His body trembled, and golden light shone from his eyes. The phantom of the sacred mountain within his Divine Kingdom reappeared, continuously transmitting energy into him.
Only then did everyone realize that the golden ancient spear was merely half a weapon—the half bearing its spearhead.
The Saint God attacked. The half-spear swept lightly through the air, and an inexplicable force of law appeared, severing the gravitational pull emanating from the small vessel.
Zhou Changsheng’s eyes sharpened. The vessel in his palm shook violently, then abruptly expanded until it was larger than a mountain. Only then did everyone notice the densely packed cracks covering its body.
The shining rune on the vessel was completely activated. The little vessel slammed toward the Saint God, shattering the universe and causing the void to emit a terrifying sound, like a vengeful ghost howling in anguish.
The Lord of the Saint Gods said nothing, but the golden light in his eyes grew even brighter. He seemed to have transformed into an unrivaled sovereign, and the golden ancient spear in his hand thrust forward with tremendous force.
Clang!
Sparks flew in all directions. The golden ancient spear erupted with oceanic waves of power, while divine radiance instantly flooded the sky. The sight was terrifying enough to make the souls of all who witnessed it tremble.
The little vessel shook without pause, emitting a deep hum that shattered the void.
Across Mount Ten Thousand Gods, the divine spirits and armies all dropped to one knee. They trembled and quivered beneath the supreme pressure, as though their bodies were about to burst apart.
This was still the result of Zhou Changsheng and the Saint God protecting them. Otherwise, beneath a single strike from two Heavenly Venerable artifacts—even incomplete ones—the overflow of power alone would have been enough to destroy them all.
Both men spat out great mouthfuls of blood. Before either could launch a second strike, the Hall of the Gods suddenly blazed with dazzling light. A faint chant arose, and the phantoms of the gods appeared, just as they had when the sky first manifested them. The restrictions covering the hall slowly receded.
Even the Lord of the Saint Gods and the others revealed excited expressions. They exchanged a glance, transformed into streaks of light, and flew straight toward the Hall of the Gods, abandoning the battlefield entirely.
Zhou Changsheng’s expression changed. A vague sense of foreboding rose in his heart. Even if the Hall of the Gods opened, it would merely release a few divine seats. No one knew when the Mandate of Heaven would emerge, so there was no reason for them to be this excited.
He put away the small vessel and followed close behind, entering the Hall of the Gods as well.
After entering, Zhou Changsheng discovered that the Saint God and the others were already seated in their respective places. The Saint God occupied the seat on the left of the first row. Although his body had become enormous, making certain exposed areas somewhat awkward, there was no need to dwell on such trivial details.
He raised the golden ancient spear in his hand and murmured words in some ancient language. The spear radiated blinding light, and runes surfaced one after another. As the Saint God continued chanting, the phantoms seated upon the ancient thrones actually rose one by one and turned their heads toward Zhou Changsheng and the others.
Within the space of the God King’s throne, Zhou Tian was momentarily stunned.
So he had that trick as well. Zhou Tian had truly believed that these things were nothing more than inheritances of divine seats.
The God King spoke slowly.
“Mortal, it seems I have gained the upper hand for now.”
Please recommend this book, and please vote for it monthly.
Yesterday, I had originally planned to post a chapter explaining things. But then I thought that if everyone waited all evening only to receive a notice saying there would be no chapter, they would surely be furious. So I decided to lie low for one more day and talk about it today.
