Yang Xiaofan was completely unaware of the chaos erupting outside. Even if he had known, he wouldn’t have taken much interest in it. Ever since he acquired his money-spending cheat, his life, without a doubt, was destined to reach heights no human had ever achieved before. All he needed to do was let things unfold naturally—there was no need to deliberately conform to the world around him.

Clad in a bathrobe, he walked out of the bathroom, towel in hand, dabbing the water from his hair.

“Class monitor, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you,” he said.

“Mm-hmm, go ahead,” Qin Nuanyu replied, hastily wiping away the drool that had crept to the corner of her mouth. This frustrated her—after all, when two people spent so much time together, a woman shouldn’t be so besotted with a man anymore, at least in theory. At the very least, after all this time with Yang Xiaofan, she should have developed some immunity, right?

Yet, the truth was, not only had she failed to build any resistance to him, she found herself even more infatuated—hopelessly so. The aura he emitted only drew her in deeper, making it harder for her to control her reactions, no matter what it was.

“Before I came here, I already told my parents that I intend to marry you. And since arriving, I’ve met Uncle Qin and Aunt Qin, and they’ve given their blessing for our marriage. So, I think I should take you home to meet my family, and we can discuss the date for our wedding.”

“Ah!” Qin Nuanyu, previously lost in Yang Xiaofan’s looks, was suddenly dumbfounded, then clearly grew anxious.

“When will we go?” she asked.

“If possible, I’d like to leave the morning after tomorrow. My hometown is a county town, not a city like yours with an airport or high-speed rail. We’ll have to drive, so we should set off early and leave ourselves enough time.”

“So soon? Isn’t that a bit rushed?” she worried.

Yang Xiaofan couldn’t help but laugh. He pinched her delicate nose.

“What’s wrong? Afraid to meet your in-laws, are you?”

Qin Nuanyu pouted. “I’m not ugly! I’m just nervous—it’s the first time I’ll be meeting your parents.”

After a pause, she continued, “Maybe we should wait a bit longer. Give me some time to prepare. I never dated anyone before you, and now, less than a month into our relationship, I’m already meeting your parents. It’s all happening so fast, and it scares me.”

Yang Xiaofan was both exasperated and amused. “I risked my life meeting your parents—your father looked ready to kill me!—and I wasn’t scared. Why are you so afraid?”

“That’s different. I would never let my dad hurt you, because I’m sure I love you, and I’ve already decided to marry you. But what if your parents don’t like me? What if they don’t approve? Then I won’t be able to be with you.”

“What a silly thing to say.” Yang Xiaofan hooked his finger and gently tapped her cheek.

“Ow!” Qin Nuanyu immediately covered her head, teary-eyed, looking at him in wounded protest. Yang Xiaofan’s heart softened, and he pulled her into his arms.

“Silly girl, don’t worry. Even if my parents object, nothing can stop me from marrying you. My feelings for you are just as deep as yours for me. Besides, my parents are very easygoing—they’ll definitely like you, I promise.”

“Okay,” Qin Nuanyu replied, nodding. She wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling her small head against his firm abs with a satisfied little whimper. “I know.”

“That’s good. Now get some sleep. You can’t stay up too—hey, what are you doing? Get your hand out of there.”

Sensing that Qin Nuanyu was up to her usual mischief, Yang Xiaofan immediately tugged on her ear, making her yelp and obediently withdraw her wandering hand.

“Ow, ow, ow! I surrender! I’ll behave!”

Only then did he let go, scolding her sternly, “You’d better behave yourself. If you act up again, or disobey me, I’ll have to spank your little behind.”

Qin Nuanyu grumbled, “Would you really? What if you hurt the baby and I miscarry?”

“Stop talking nonsense!” Yang Xiaofan was practically beside himself with exasperation. This girl always knew exactly which pot to stir.

Qin Nuanyu stuck out her tongue and dove under the covers. “Fine, I’ll stop. I’m going to sleep.”

“That’s more like it,” Yang Xiaofan said, shooting her a glare. He switched off the bedside lamp and got into bed. The room fell into darkness and silence.

Five minutes later, Qin Nuanyu’s voice piped up again, “Honey, I can’t sleep.”

“And?” he prompted.

“I want some milk tea.”

“I’ll go downstairs and buy you some.”

“Not the kind they sell on the street. I want the first cup of milk tea in autumn.”

“Dream on. It’s almost winter—where am I supposed to find autumn milk tea?”

She sighed theatrically, “At the harbor, the cold wind whistles and the place lies deserted—no ships dock, only the silence awaits.”

“If you don’t want a beating, stop quoting poetry like a pretentious scholar.”

“If you’re going to hit me, can I pick the tool?”

“Fine.”

“I choose a needle! No, a gun! Wait, the diameter is off. Hm… steel pipe?”

“…”

Yang Xiaofan was rendered speechless. This class monitor was no longer the girl she once was. No wonder, he thought, people say that once a girl becomes a woman, she loses her innocence.

...

Time slipped quickly into the next day. By midmorning, the two of them, dark circles under their eyes, shuffled out of the room. At the sight of them, Qin’s mother frowned, pulled Yang Xiaofan aside, and spoke to him in a gentle but serious tone.

“Xiaofan, Auntie knows you young people are passionate and sometimes can’t help yourselves, but Nuanyu is pregnant now. You two really need to be careful—if anything happens, it could be disastrous.”

Yang Xiaofan felt more wronged than Dou E herself. He shot a fierce glare at Qin Nuanyu, who, several steps away, didn’t even glance his way, as if the whole thing had nothing to do with her. Helpless, he could only shoulder all the blame himself.

“Ahem—don’t worry, Auntie Qin, I’ll be careful. Last night, we were just talking, nothing like what you’re thinking happened.”

“Oh! If that’s the case, then that’s for the best. Auntie only wants what’s best for you two—I hope you understand.”
