Chapter Sixty-Six: The Most Popular Brother-in-law on the Internet
“???” Hearing a man in his forties call him brother-in-law, Yang Xiaofan’s face couldn’t help but twitch violently.
“No, you’ve got the wrong person. I’m not your brother-in-law.”
“No, you are! I couldn’t be mistaken. Look, the man in this video looks exactly like you.”
With such irrefutable evidence, Yang Xiaofan didn’t even know how to lie his way out of it. He could only grit his teeth and admit it.
“All right, I am the person in the video.”
“Brother-in-law, I knew it was you! I never imagined you’d be riding in my cab. This is just too exciting. I’m your idol—no, I mean, I’m your fan!”
The driver was thrilled, while Yang Xiaofan was utterly mortified.
“Uh…brother, you don’t need to call me brother-in-law. Just call me Mr. Yang.”
“Oh, sorry. I got too excited. Mr. Yang, could I take a photo with you? I admire you so much—please, give me this chance!”
“Can we skip the photo?”
“No way! If you don’t, I won’t drive.”
“Then I’ll just get another cab.”
“If you get out, I’ll shout ‘Brother-in-law is here!’ And since all the taxis have radios, I can contact everyone. No matter which one you take, I’ll find you.”
“…”
Left with no choice, Yang Xiaofan was forced to take a photo with this overenthusiastic, middle-aged driver who kept calling him brother-in-law.
Sometimes, you have no choice but to bow your head under the eaves.
After much difficulty, he finally arrived at the grand hotel. Yang Xiaofan rushed inside and went straight to the front desk, calling out urgently, “Book me three presidential suites right now, for three days. Money is not an issue. But be quick.”
“Certainly, our presidential suite—oh my gosh!”
The receptionist began to speak, but as she looked up and saw Yang Xiaofan, she couldn’t help but exclaim.
“You’re brother-in-law?”
Again with the brother-in-law.
Now, every time Yang Xiaofan heard those two words, his head started to ache.
“No, you’re mistaken. I’m not him.”
“But you look exactly like him!”
Seeing the receptionist reaching for her phone to compare his face to the video, Yang Xiaofan quickly pressed down her hand.
“All right, fine, you got me. I admit it. Just hurry up and get me the rooms.”
“Of course, I’ll process it right away.” The receptionist smiled and handed him a piece of paper. “Would you please sign here?”
Yang Xiaofan glanced at it, paid it little mind, and signed his name.
Then she handed him another form to sign. The second one caught his eye—it was the actual room reservation form, which left him puzzled.
“That’s strange, didn’t you just have me sign something? Why do I need to sign again?”
The receptionist smiled, pressing her lips together, and handed him the room keycards with both hands.
“The first one wasn’t a form—it was just something for me, a signature. This one is for the reservation.”
Yang Xiaofan’s face twitched again.
Were these people out of their minds?
He wasn’t some scientific genius, some powerful figure, or even a celebrity. Yet they wanted to collect his autograph?
How bizarre.
But there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t argue with her now. Taking the keycards, he hurriedly went upstairs.
Meanwhile, the receptionist quickly snapped a photo and posted it on her social media feed.
“Just got an autograph from brother-in-law! Guaranteed authentic, with hotel surveillance as proof. Selling at a low price to the highest bidder. Only one available, act fast. Note: If you offer less than ten thousand, don’t bother.”
…
Inside the suite, Yang Xiaofan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately called the Qin family.
“Hello, Nuan Yu, I’ve arrived. Where are you all?”
“We’re here too, just downstairs. Right after you left, the neighbors finally cleared out, so we followed you over.”
“Then come up to the presidential suite on the top floor. I’ve booked three—one for you and me, one for uncle and auntie, and one for Nuan Xin.”
“All right.”
…
A few minutes later, the Qin family arrived at the top floor. Seeing the suites, Qin Nuanxin, Father Qin, and Mother Qin were all wide-eyed.
“My goodness, this is a presidential suite? It’s enormous! Brother-in-law, this must have cost a fortune.”
“It’s not so bad. Thirteen thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine per night.”
“Hiss—!”
The Qin family instinctively drew in a sharp breath.
Just one night burned through tens of thousands, and three nights would be over a hundred thousand.
Mother Qin quickly spoke up. “Xiaofan, we don’t need such a fancy hotel. Something ordinary is fine. Or just switch to a regular room—go and return these suites.”
Yang Xiaofan smiled. “Auntie, don’t worry. I can afford it. Besides, you’re Nuan Yu’s family, which means you’re my family too. Spending a little for you is only right.”
This made the Qin family feel a surge of warmth.
Qin Nuanxin was even more excited. “Brother-in-law, you’re the best! You’re the best brother-in-law in the world!”
Yang Xiaofan had little patience for her and rolled his eyes. “Easy for you to say. If you hadn’t set me up, would I have had to jump from the balcony?”
At that, both Mother and Father Qin took Yang Xiaofan’s side.
“That’s right. We told you to stop doing live streams, but you wouldn’t listen. Now look—your brother-in-law’s all over the internet, and he can’t go anywhere without being recognized.”
Qin Nuanxin pouted. “But I made brother-in-law the most popular brother-in-law on the internet!”
“And you’re proud of that?” Father Qin smacked her head sharply. “From now on, no more streaming. If I catch you at it again, I’ll break your legs!”
Qin Nuanxin was on the verge of tears. She’d just become famous through Yang Xiaofan, her streaming channel had broken a million followers, and the numbers were still climbing.
At this rate, she was confident she’d soon become the top female streamer on Tigerfang Live.
But with one sentence, her father had crushed her dreams.
At last, Qin Nuanyu stepped in to mediate. “All right, Dad, Nuanxin is still young and didn’t know any better. She couldn’t have predicted things would turn out like this. Don’t blame her.”
Father Qin’s anger finally subsided. “Did you hear that? For your sister’s sake, I’ll let you off this time. But if anything like this happens again, it won’t be so simple. I’ll skin you alive.”
Qin Nuanxin hung her head, looking like a wilted eggplant.
