Chapter Twenty-Three: To Be My Wife, You Must Learn How to Spend Money
The bald, middle-aged man let out a cold, mocking laugh.
“Did you hear that? An eighty-eight thousand dollar watch—can you afford it?”
Yang Xiaofan glanced at him with utter disdain, then pulled out his bank card.
“Eighty-eight thousand—is that supposed to be a lot? Sales assistant, swipe the card.”
“What!”
The bald man was utterly stunned.
He had assumed, from Yang Xiaofan’s market-stall clothes, that he was just some penniless pauper. Unexpectedly… this man was a hidden tycoon.
Not only him—the sales assistant was also dumbfounded.
She had thought Yang Xiaofan was just sparring with the bald man, and only sided with Yang Xiaofan because the middle-aged guy rubbed her the wrong way. She never expected Yang Xiaofan would actually pay, and so decisively.
After her shock faded, she cheerfully extended both hands and accepted Yang Xiaofan’s card.
Qin Nuanyu was frightened, rushing to Yang Xiaofan’s side and saying anxiously:
“No, Xiaofan, don’t buy such an expensive watch—I don’t want it! It’s far too much!”
Though her family had some money, she never dared dream of owning a watch this costly.
The bald man snapped out of his shock and sneered:
“Keep pretending! Go on, keep acting! I knew it, you’re just putting on a show. In reality, you can’t afford it at all!”
Yang Xiaofan ignored him completely, turning again to the sales assistant:
“What are you waiting for? Do you need me to teach you how to swipe a card?”
The sales assistant nodded hurriedly.
“Oh, yes! Right away, I’ll process your card.”
A couple of quick taps—eighty-eight thousand deducted, the transaction settled. The emerald Cartier watch was in Yang Xiaofan’s hands.
He immediately fastened it onto Qin Nuanyu’s wrist.
This time, the bald man was utterly deflated.
He really bought the eighty-eight thousand dollar watch—not just showing off, but genuinely extraordinary!
“Xiaofan.”
Qin Nuanyu’s eyes were red with emotion.
She was not a gold-digger, but the gesture of Yang Xiaofan spending his money for her—no amount of money could buy such devotion.
Yang Xiaofan patted her head, grinning.
“Do you like it?”
Qin Nuanyu couldn’t speak, she just nodded frantically.
“As long as you like it. In the future, when you wear this watch and drive our Ferrari, you’ll look truly elegant.”
That remark hit like a thunderbolt, shattering the bald man’s composure.
Damn!
They actually drive a Ferrari!
No wonder he bought the eighty-eight thousand dollar Cartier without even blinking.
Thinking back on his earlier mockery, the bald man’s face burned with shame, wishing he could crawl into a hole.
Taking advantage of Yang Xiaofan’s distraction, he slunk away, tail between his legs.
Yang Xiaofan deliberately called after him:
“Hey, uncle, don’t go! I still want to ask you—how can I make thirty thousand a month?”
The bald man stumbled, nearly tripping himself, then fled like a rabbit.
If nothing unexpected happened, he’d probably never dare come to such places to hit on women again.
Too dangerous!
If he messed with the wrong rich kid, he might not even know how he died.
Seeing him flee in panic, Qin Nuanyu couldn’t help but smile, lips pressed together.
“You’re so naughty.”
Yang Xiaofan shrugged.
“He deserved it. At his age, coming here to flirt with girls and harass innocent young women—and he even dared to hit on my girlfriend? He was asking for it!”
Hearing Yang Xiaofan call her his wife, Qin Nuanyu’s face flushed even deeper.
“Who… who’s your wife?”
“Huh? Aren’t we dating to get married? Otherwise, I’d better go on a blind date.”
“Don’t you dare!”
Qin Nuanyu raised her tiny fists, but seeing the teasing smile in Yang Xiaofan’s eyes, she knew she’d been tricked again, her face red as if it could bleed.
After a moment, her mind cleared, and she spoke earnestly:
“Xiaofan, just now… you bought the watch to spite that guy, right? Now he’s gone, and the bill hasn’t been finalized. Let’s return the watch—it’s too expensive.”
Although Qin Nuanyu wanted it badly, it was Yang Xiaofan’s money—her boyfriend’s. She couldn’t bear to spend it.
Yang Xiaofan pinched her nose affectionately.
“Silly girl, who said I bought it just to spite him? I wanted to buy you the best Cartier all along. Even without him, I’d have bought it.”
Each of his paintings now sells for more than eighty-eight thousand. Buying a Cartier barely registers as an expense.
“But… it’s so expensive!”
“It’s not expensive at all. I don’t even think it’s good enough. Next time, I’ll get you a Patek Philippe.”
“Xiaofan.”
Qin Nuanyu’s eyes brimmed with tears, and even the sales assistant chimed in:
“Miss, just accept it. To find a boyfriend this wonderful is a blessing earned over ten lifetimes. Many top-tier heirs, even before marriage, rarely buy their girlfriends such expensive watches.”
Even the sales assistant said so, so Qin Nuanyu stopped refusing.
After all, sooner or later she’d belong to Yang Xiaofan, and the watch would be his anyway.
After the sales assistant issued the invoice and receipt and handed over the complimentary gifts, Yang Xiaofan took Qin Nuanyu’s hand and headed next door to Louis Vuitton.
Qin Nuanyu quickly grabbed Yang Xiaofan.
“Xiaofan, are you crazy? We just bought such an expensive watch—why buy more stuff?”
“A watch only goes on your wrist. I still need to buy you bags, clothes, shoes, jewelry.”
“No, no, I can’t spend any more of your money.”
“Silly, being my wife means learning to spend money. Otherwise, what’s the point of me earning so much if no one spends it—it’ll all turn into worthless paper.”
Before she could protest, he pulled her inside.
All evening, Qin Nuanyu was bombarded by Yang Xiaofan’s sweet gestures, left utterly dizzy.
Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci… he bought from all the top brands.
Qin Nuanyu felt like she was dreaming.
Every item cost tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, even millions.
It was like burning money.
No, it was spending money like water!
It wasn’t until ten o’clock, when the mall closed, that Yang Xiaofan finally left, loaded with shopping bags, with Qin Nuanyu at his side.
Qin Nuanyu felt herself floating as she walked.
When Yang Xiaofan took her back to her dorm, she still hadn’t recovered.
“We’re here!”
Only when Yang Xiaofan spoke did Qin Nuanyu snap out of her daze.
“Oh!”
“There’s so much stuff. Should I help you carry it upstairs?”
“Okay!”
Qin Nuanyu’s heart fluttered—she sensed something was about to happen.
Her heartbeat quickened, her blood seemed to boil.
How had she agreed to let him come up?
Ah, ah, ah… how had her brain suddenly become so sluggish?
