Jiang Nanyan's words were not mere alarmist talk.

By afternoon, Qin Xiao had received successive reports of murder cases in his office. Without exception, the victims were either notorious criminals or wanted fugitives—scum of society whose deaths were of little consequence. Yet, the manner of their deaths mattered; if word spread that they had died mysteriously on home turf, public unease would only deepen.

What shocked Qin Xiao even more was that, at five o’clock, a document arrived on his desk—an arrest warrant issued by the Provincial Public Security Bureau.

“Province-wide manhunt for major criminal Qin Yang.”

The warrant detailed Qin Yang’s physical features, and listed the charge of premeditated murder. It also warned that the individual was extremely dangerous, offering a reward of one hundred thousand for any effective information—a reward openly and legitimately claimed, unlike Liu Mo Lan’s secretive million-dollar bounty, which was a shady deal behind closed doors.

As a result, Qin Yang’s photograph was posted at the entrances of schools, commercial buildings, and prominent locations throughout Fengyang County, as if being promoted everywhere. Qin Yang couldn’t help but regret not being a celebrity.

“Damn it, Sun Qi, Ling Suyun, when I get back I’ll smash the police station.”

Crushing the warrant into a ball and tossing it aside, Qin Yang cursed bitterly.

Luckily, the pursuit was confined to the county. If it spilled outside, his reputation would be ruined for good.

Only a few people knew that he was behind these murders: Ji Lietiger and the others were trusted brothers, so the only suspects could be Sun Qi and the police. The thought made Qin Yang itch to kill his way back, but he had no time to spare now. With the police hunting him citywide, he dared not show his face. Still, he found it amusing that during this period, many underworld figures in Fengyang County were sent to prison.

Jianghai City, Hailong Jewelry.

Liu Yan listened quietly to Xiao Yi’s report. She was as calm as a mountain, and Xiao Yi, standing opposite, felt a powerful sense of oppression, glancing nervously at her. “Miss, Qin Yang is now doomed,” he said.

“What about Uncle Qin and the others?” Liu Yan asked coolly.

“No reaction at all. As far as I know, the judge overseeing Liu Mo Lan’s million-dollar bounty for Hua Hong was Boss Cao. The Qin family seems to ignore the matter completely,” Xiao Yi replied.

“You may go,” Liu Yan waved her hand.

Not long after Xiao Yi left, the door opened again. This time, Yan Xiaofeng entered.

“What are you here for?” Liu Yan asked.

Yan Xiaofeng smiled softly, sat down across from her, and said, “Liu Yan, Qin Yang is now a rat in the street—everyone wants him dead. I can’t imagine why you would stay with the Qin family.”

“That’s my business,” Liu Yan’s eyes held a hint of mystery. “If you’re here to persuade or mock me, you’re in the wrong place. You may leave now.”

“What about me?”

Jiang Nanyan stepped in from outside, looking at Liu Yan, his eyes full of deep conflict and a trace of tenderness. Yan Xiaofeng tactfully retreated, standing beside Jiang Nanyan, knowing he had no chance—neither in family background nor in himself. He knew the gap between him and Jiang Nanyan was insurmountable.

Liu Yan laughed lightly, “Jiang Nanyan, if I’m not mistaken, Grandpa Jiang’s illness is critical, yet you still have the leisure to come to the southeast.”

“Liu Yan, you know exactly what kind of person Qin Yang is. The information I gave you details all his actions since childhood. Someone like him is nothing but a waste of resources. How could someone as proud as you be interested in such a useless man?” Jiang Nanyan’s tone grew agitated.

A cold light flashed in Liu Yan’s eyes. “Jiang Nanyan, you needn’t meddle in my affairs. Marrying Qin Yang was my own proposal. I, Liu Yan, will never regret it. And I can tell you plainly—you can’t defeat Qin Yang.”

“Can't defeat Qin Yang?” Jiang Nanyan laughed loudly, his laughter full of overwhelming arrogance. “Within three days, I will personally send Qin Yang to the Black Prison.”

“And what of it?” Liu Yan sneered. “I still say, you can’t defeat Qin Yang, even if you send him to the Black Prison.”

“What gives you such confidence?” Jiang Nanyan calmed down and asked softly.

Liu Yan shook her head, then pointed to herself, “Intuition. My intuition tells me Qin Yang has fooled everyone. He’s not just a simple second-generation heir.”

“Facts will prove everything,” Jiang Nanyan said coldly, then his tone softened. “Liu Yan, three days from now, I hope when you see the outcome, you’ll change your mind. I’ll wait for you in the capital then.”

If this side was cold and gentle in turn, in Fengyang County, Qin Yang was thoroughly cursing his fate.

He didn’t hide away with Yu Wenfei in some secret spot, but instead brought her to stay in a house still listed for rent. Every window was covered with thick black cloth to ensure no light was seen from outside. He unapologetically used the kitchen, living quite comfortably with no disturbances. Yet, thinking of being wanted throughout the city, Qin Yang could only curse inwardly.

He had planned to deal with the invading underworld experts one by one, like harvesting wheat. Unexpectedly, he was now wanted by the entire county police force. He couldn’t confront them directly, so he could only hide and endure—his plans completely derailed, and Old Qin was furious.

Yu Wenfei carefully placed a box of instant noodles in front of Qin Yang. “Eat something,” she said.

“I will,” Qin Yang rolled his eyes, thought for a moment, and said, “Tomorrow, take off your makeup and buy a ticket to Haitianshi.”

“I’m not leaving,” Yu Wenfei insisted. “I want to help you.”

“What help can you give now? The plan is a mess; I don’t even know what to do. Following me only brings trouble—go find your brother.”

“I’m not going.”

Yu Wenfei remained stubborn. “I must help you.”

“Don’t be foolish,” Qin Yang shook his head. “I can manage alone. With you, I really can’t. Do you understand?”

Yu Wenfei fell silent, her eyes brimming with tears, unsure what to say. She simply hugged Qin Yang. Qin Yang sighed, patted her shoulder, and after finally coaxing her to sleep, walked to the living room, lay on the sofa, and pondered his next move.

Yu Wen Rou Nu emerged from the jade pendant and said, “Qin Yang, are you really going to oppose the authorities?”

“Who likes to oppose them?” Qin Yang replied, frustrated. “They forced their way in; what can I do? If push comes to shove, I’ll just go abroad. I can still make a living out there.”

“Will you regret it?” Yu Wen Rou Nu asked. “You could have avoided all this.”

“That’s a matter of perspective. Anyway, I don’t regret it.”
