Chapter 127: Reorganizing the War God Squad

The Black Prison had no objection to this operation. After all, it concerned whether everyone would be able to leave prison. The question of personnel, however, sparked fierce disputes. They had never wanted Qin Yang to risk his life, but their repeated protests proved ineffective. As for the remaining seven positions, everyone began volunteering one after another.
The first to be confirmed was Zhao Wu. His leg had nearly healed, and among them all, he possessed exceptionally rich combat experience. He therefore became one of the indispensable members of the new God of War squad.
The competition for the remaining six places, however, was intense.
Everyone offered their reasons for taking part in the mission.
“I carried out twelve missions in Africa. I’m familiar with the local customs and culture, so I should go.” Thirty-seven-year-old Dian Jiang had a physique much like that of his ancestor Dian Wei. His explosive strength was even greater than Cheng Mu’s, though his temper was far more volatile. He had once lost two brothers because of a senior officer’s reckless commands. In a fit of rage, he had smashed the jaw of that general, who wore a general’s star on his shoulders, and had consequently been exiled to the Black Prison.
“Good. Dian Jiang counts as one.” Qin Yang clapped his hands.
“I’m familiar with satellite communications systems and proficient in all kinds of vehicles. Other than rockets, I can operate anything. Most importantly, I can locate the missing civilians in the shortest possible time.” Thirty-six-year-old Xu Lai spoke calmly.
“Old Xu, stop bragging. You haven’t touched a tank or an aircraft in more than ten years, and you still claim you can operate them?” several men complained.
Xu Lai gave a cold laugh. “That sort of skill is carved into your bones.”
“Good. Xu Lai counts as one.” Qin Yang nodded in agreement.
Wu Ya glanced at the others before stepping forward. “I specialize in assassination. Although I don’t know much about warfare and have never been on a battlefield, I’m completely confident that in close-quarters combat I can make the enemy pay a hundred times over.”
“Wu Ya, this is a battlefield operation involving modern weapons. Your fighting ability is indeed formidable, but your military experience is severely lacking.” Qin Yang shook his head. “I don’t agree to your participation.”
Wu Ya gritted his teeth and slammed his fist onto the table before leaving angrily. Yet everyone could see his shoulders trembling slightly as he entered the barracks.
Qin Yang drew a deep breath. “Continue. Who else?”
“I specialize in sniping, traps, counter-surveillance, group camouflage, and wilderness survival. Most of Nili consists of tropical rainforest, and I can make full use of the environment to provide the team with the best possible support.” The somewhat younger Tang Li spoke calmly. “Although I haven’t had much practice in recent years, dealing with those armed men will still be effortless.”

“Good!”
Qin Yang likewise approved his participation.
The God of War squad would consist of eight members in total. The final three were Chu Dongtian, who could deliver precise fire at short and medium ranges; Zhu Wu, who specialized in large-scale demolitions; and Yang Guang, the most versatile of them all and the deputy commander of the combat team. Yang Guang could handle assassinations, assaults, fire support, demolitions, infiltration, reconnaissance, and much more.
Most noteworthy of all, Yang Guang was also a combat medic. Amid the chaos of battle, he could perform emergency surgery. On one occasion, while saving a colonel, he had cut open the man’s chest and restored his heartbeat through the strength of his own hands. Unfortunately, the colonel later died in agony from a bacterial infection. To make matters worse, the colonel’s father was a powerful general. Yang Guang had been left with no choice but to go to prison.
Once the eight-man team had been finalized, Wei Boyang had already prepared a vehicle. He first took them to a nearby military facility, then arranged for them to fly to Yanjing.
At the same time, as discussion of the God of War squad intensified across the domestic internet, the authorities made the unprecedented decision to issue a clarification. They declared the reports rumors spread by foreign forces seeking to undermine the stability of the nation’s military. They explained in great detail that the supposed site two hundred meters underground was merely the training base of the God of War squad, filling in every apparent gap in the story. Shen Haoyun and the others who had taken part in that battle were also instructed to step forward and clarify matters. Only then did the lengthy controversy finally subside.
In the end, the authorities also stated that the God of War squad was carrying out a special mission and urged the public not to question the fate of its heroes.
When Qin Yang and the others arrived in Yanjing, Wei Boyang received a phone call and then said, “The Black Prison has officially been confirmed for dissolution. Certain opposing voices have been suppressed through the combined efforts of the Chairman, the Premier, and the old general. The order has been formally issued. Unless the heavens collapse and the earth splits apart, there is no possibility of it being changed.”
“That’s good.” Qin Yang and the others breathed sighs of relief.
Wei Boyang checked the time. “Xiaoran is currently preparing for the dissolution of the Black Prison. Everyone is scheduled to withdraw in three days. If your operation proceeds quickly, you may even make it back in time for the Black Prison’s farewell dinner.”
Everyone laughed.
Elsewhere, a transport aircraft slowly descended. The eight members of the Parasol Special Operations Group stepped off the plane. Upon seeing Qin Yang, they hurried over and saluted.
Qin Yang gestured toward the members of the Parasol Group. “These are Xie Chengyang, Zhou Kehai, Wang Yang, Tan Long, Wei Feng, Shui Wuya, Dou Bai, and Wei Dao. These are the new members of the God of War squad. Get acquainted with one another.”
The men shook hands and introduced themselves.
Wei Boyang summoned a lieutenant colonel and said, “Take them to the mess hall first. I’m attending a meeting with the Operations Department. Later, I’ll brief you on the mission and provide the hostage list, along with the approximate locations of the missing civilians.”
The lieutenant colonel led them toward the mess hall in the distance.

The meal was simple. Though not particularly abundant, it provided most of the nourishment needed to restore their strength. After resting for a little over an hour, they saw Wei Boyang and Major General Zhao of the Operations Department hurry toward them.
The members of the Parasol Group rose and saluted. The God of War squad, however, paid little attention. After all, they had witnessed Major General Zhao’s humiliating performance in the Black Prison with their own eyes. Zhao could only give them an awkward smile before switching on the projector.
A map of Nili appeared above them, with the distribution of its provinces and cities rendered in remarkable detail.
“The Chairman has approved an emergency rescue operation,” Major General Zhao began. “According to intelligence analysis, our three hostages are being held in Kano City. This is also where the Nili armed forces and the **** organization are scheduled to meet. Their rendezvous will take place in fifty-seven hours. In other words, within fifty-seven hours, you must break through the defenses around Kano and rescue all the hostages. You must then hurry to Sokoto, travel south along the Nili River, and search for the more than fifty missing civilians.
“Based on our last communication with them, their disappearance was most likely somewhere along the upper reaches of the Nili River. At the same time, three days from now, our people will be waiting for you in the Gulf of Guinea to receive you during your withdrawal. You will return to Huaxia by way of Feinan.”
“I have a question.” Qin Yang raised his hand.
“Major Qin, go ahead,” Major General Zhao replied.
“Major?” Qin Yang stared at him in surprise.
“As the overall commander of this operation, Comrade Qin Yang has been granted the rank of major,” Major General Zhao explained.
Qin Yang grinned. “How are we entering Nili?”
“Our Foreign Ministry has reached a secret agreement with Dan’er. Two hours from now, you will board a flight to Dan’er disguised as tourists. As for weapons and equipment, we have already sent them into Dan’er through covert channels according to your requisition list. You will collect your weapons at the airport.”
Qin Yang shrugged, indicating that he had no objection.
“Soldiers, this operation will be extremely dangerous. You must infiltrate Nili by secretly breaching its border defenses. We will provide as much assistance as possible in every aspect. Remember the ultimate objective of your mission: rescue the hostages!”
