Chapter 62: Li Junsheng Enters the Factory to Load Goods! Chen Dazhu Jumps with Anxiety?
Chen Zhiyuan crossed his arms, looking extremely pleased with himself. He smiled at his father, Chen Dazhu, and said, “Dad, should I go over there? If Li Junsheng begs me, maybe I can put in a good word for him and get the old gatekeeper to let him in!”
Chen Dazhu nodded with a grin. Such a perfect opportunity to embarrass Li Junsheng was not something he would let slip by.
But before the father and son could make their move, the gatekeeper had already opened the door for Li Junsheng, politely letting him and Old Dao drive their truck inside!
Li Junsheng climbed onto the lead truck and swaggered into the factory, leaving Chen Zhiyuan in a panic.
“What’s wrong with this gatekeeper? Li Junsheng isn’t a factory worker anymore; he shouldn’t be allowed in!” Chen Zhiyuan stomped his feet angrily, wanting to confront the gatekeeper, but Chen Dazhu grabbed him, his instincts sharp. “Something’s off. Forget the gatekeeper for now—let’s follow them and see what Li Junsheng is up to.”
Chen Dazhu pulled Chen Zhiyuan along, trailing quietly behind them. The factory had few streetlights, and since they made no noise, neither Li Junsheng nor Old Dao’s men noticed the father and son lurking in the shadows.
Thus, they followed unnoticed, witnessing Li Junsheng and his group drive up to the factory warehouse.
“What’s he doing at the warehouse?” Chen Dazhu muttered to himself, unable to make sense of Li Junsheng’s actions.
Chen Zhiyuan was unconcerned. “Probably here to haul something. But Old Zhao isn’t easy to deal with—he might get kicked out!”
Chen Dazhu agreed, but what happened next surprised them both.
Li Junsheng produced a certificate from Chief Zhou, handing it to Old Zhao, the warehouse keeper.
Old Zhao’s expression changed instantly. He nodded and bowed, hurrying to unlock the warehouse door.
The spectacle left the father and son, who were spying from behind, utterly dumbfounded. They hadn’t expected the once stubborn Old Zhao to be so deferential to Li Junsheng!
“What did Li Junsheng show him? Why is Old Zhao so respectful?” Chen Dazhu wondered.
“Looked like some kind of certificate,” Chen Zhiyuan replied.
“So what exactly is Li Junsheng doing now?” Chen Dazhu was baffled.
They watched as a group climbed down from the trucks and began to move scrap materials out of the warehouse, weighing them and loading them onto the trucks.
The sight left Chen Dazhu and Chen Zhiyuan staring in disbelief.
“Dad, why is Li Junsheng hauling factory scrap?” Chen Zhiyuan asked.
Chen Dazhu had no answer. Tonight, Li Junsheng seemed anything but simple!
Given that he hadn’t completely fallen out with Li Junsheng, and knowing Li Junsheng was unaware of his affair with Ma Yulian, Chen Dazhu considered approaching to ask what was going on.
But as they drew near, they were stopped by Old Dao’s men.
“Who are you two? We’re busy up ahead—no outsiders allowed. If you insist, don’t blame us for being rude!” The men, clearly not ordinary folk, spoke fiercely, intimidating Chen Dazhu immediately.
Faced with such people, Chen Dazhu didn’t dare make trouble.
Yet he was desperate to find out what Li Junsheng was doing, so in frustration, he shouted for him.
“Hey Li, what are you doing here so late? Let me come over and say a few words!”
Li Junsheng turned at the sound, finally noticing Chen Dazhu and his son.
Seeing Chen Dazhu in the factory surprised him—outsiders weren’t allowed in the machinery plant.
But it didn’t matter; having the father and son discover his scrap business was no issue—his paperwork was all legal and above board.
“Brother Li, do you know these two?” one of the men blocking Chen Dazhu and his son asked politely.
Li Junsheng waved him off, not bothering with Chen Dazhu at all. He was busy and had no time for Chen Dazhu’s interference.
Ignoring the father and son, Li Junsheng spoke with Old Dao about the other machines in the warehouse.
“These machines are also obsolete, counted as scrap. We can haul them away too, but they’re big—hard to weigh and move.”
Old Dao, cigarette in hand, smiled at Li Junsheng. “Good thing we brought enough men today. Otherwise, moving these beasts would be tough. The factory’s scrap is really valuable stuff.”
Old Dao spoke with admiration, and hearing this, Li Junsheng asked about the price.
“If it’s good stuff, what’s the price?” he asked.
Old Dao grinned and whispered, “There’s a lot this time, so I’m willing to give you a better rate. How about three-fifty per pound?”
Li Junsheng nodded, satisfied with the offer, and didn’t haggle.
Meanwhile, seeing Li Junsheng ignore him, Chen Dazhu grew frantic, shouting again.
“Hey Li, look back at me! Why are you pretending not to know me?”
Chen Dazhu was determined to figure out what Li Junsheng was up to—why Old Zhao was so respectful, how he could move the warehouse scrap, and who this man beside him was. Why did Li Junsheng appear to be giving orders like a boss?
Unable to answer these questions, Chen Dazhu knew he wouldn’t sleep tonight.
At that moment, Old Zhao came over with a cold face, intent on ejecting Chen Zhiyuan and Chen Dazhu.
“Why are you two still here? You’ve heard enough—get out before the bosses find you, or you’ll be in trouble.”
Old Zhao dragged the pair, pushing them out the factory gate.
At the gate, Chen Dazhu was utterly perplexed. He speculated with his son, “I knew something was off—Li Junsheng sold his job so easily, divided the money among his children, and kept nothing for himself.”
“Could it be he found another way to make money, something he couldn’t do as a factory worker, so he quit outright?”
Chen Zhiyuan was unsure. “The group seemed very respectful to him. If it’s as you guess, then Li Junsheng is really awful!”
Chen Dazhu nodded in agreement, now focused on Li Junsheng, curious about his lucrative new venture.
If possible… he’d rather snatch that opportunity from Li Junsheng!
“We can’t just leave. Let’s wait at the gate—they’ll have to come out this way when they finish.”
“Alright!” his son agreed.
So the father and son kept watch by the gate, while Li Junsheng oversaw the weighing and loading of scrap onto the trucks.
The process took some time, and it wasn’t until after five in the morning that the factory gate opened. Truck after truck, loaded with scrap, drove out.
Chen Dazhu and Chen Zhiyuan had dozed off while waiting, and were jolted awake by the commotion. They saw Li Junsheng sitting in the passenger seat of the lead truck, leaving right before their eyes.
“Hey, Li…” Chen Dazhu tried to flag down the truck, but it didn’t stop, speeding past and leaving him choking on exhaust and dust.
