Chapter 51: Premature Labor? Li Chunyan Suffers Severe Hemorrhaging!
Old Dao’s reaction was truly amusing!
Li Junsheng exhaled a puff of smoke and grinned at him. “The contracts are all genuine. This is exactly how much scrap there is. If it works out, we’ll both make a fortune.”
Old Dao nodded repeatedly—Li Junsheng was a god of wealth, bringing money right to his door!
Looking at the official contracts Li Junsheng had procured and the total weight of the scrap materials, Old Dao couldn’t help but give Li Junsheng a thumbs-up in admiration.
“Old Li, you’re really something. Getting yourself an official position, you don’t have to worry about inspections, and you can make a killing in one go. Just turn these scraps over a few times and we’ll be rolling in the profit!”
Old Dao felt truly grateful to Li Junsheng. He’d managed to get himself an official title, which meant he had connections and could handle these scrap materials by the book. Yet, he still thought of Old Dao, which made him a real friend worth having.
With a cigarette dangling from his lips, Li Junsheng simply smiled in response to Old Dao’s praise.
After a moment, Old Dao spoke earnestly, “All right, give me two days. I need to make proper arrangements for this.”
“Fine. When the time comes, drive over and I’ll take you to pick up the goods.”
“Today’s a good day. We have to share a drink!”
Old Dao opened the fine liquor Li Junsheng had brought. The two of them clinked their bottles and enjoyed a quiet drink together.
Li Junsheng didn’t linger long. He’d been running around all day and wanted nothing more than to go home and rest.
But as he reached his doorway, he saw Li Guojun peering anxiously at the entrance.
Li Guojun looked rather flustered. When he spotted Li Junsheng, he rushed over and complained, “Dad, how did you and Xiaoyu and that Tang Liang manage to stretch dinner this late?”
“Is something wrong?”
“Chunya had a severe hemorrhage and was rushed to the hospital. Her mother-in-law dumped her two daughters at our house and told me to watch them. Neither you nor Mom were anywhere to be found!”
Li Guojun was at a loss trying to care for his two nieces; he’d been hoping Li Junsheng or Ma Yulian would return soon to watch them.
Li Junsheng was stunned—he could hardly believe it.
“Chunya had a severe hemorrhage? How did that happen?”
That hadn’t happened in his previous life, and Chunya’s due date had come early! The baby wasn’t even full-term yet. Last time, she’d gone into labor half a month later.
Li Guojun, clearly irritated, said, “I have no idea. They didn’t explain. They just dumped the kids at our place and ran to the hospital. Xiuhua went back to her mother’s. I can’t leave the kids alone to go to the hospital myself!”
“I’ll go to the hospital. You look after Chunya’s daughters.”
Without another word, Li Junsheng turned and headed to the parking area downstairs. He found his old bicycle and set off for the hospital at once.
Li Guojun looked disgruntled—he was still hungry himself and now had to look after two nieces?
On his way to the hospital, Li Junsheng was filled with unease, his mind racing with worries.
He began to regret his actions. Had Chunya’s premature hemorrhage been caused by him inviting her over to divide the money and, in the process, confronting Sun Gui? Had his good intentions backfired?
Comparing this life to the last, the only difference was that he’d called his children home and divided the money among them.
He’d given money to his second son, altering his grandson Xiaowei’s fate, who in his previous life had died young.
Li Junsheng had thought warning Sun Gui was for his daughter’s own good, but he hadn’t expected things to take a turn for the worse.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have let Sun Gui see that his daughter could get money from him, nor should he have tried to warn Sun Gui.
He should have simply supported his daughter when she was rejected by her in-laws, instead of interfering.
Now, all Li Junsheng could hope for was that Li Chunya would survive this ordeal.
He pedaled his bicycle as fast as it would go, rushing to the hospital. At the nurses’ station, he learned his daughter was still in emergency care and hurried to the rescue room.
He arrived just as the door opened. A doctor and nurse came out, the nurse holding a crying infant wrapped in a small blanket.
The doctor spoke to Sun Gui and his mother, Wu Dongmei. “The mother’s condition is stable—she’s out of danger, but very weak. She’ll need time to recover. The baby, though premature, seems healthy for now.”
Sun Gui and Wu Dongmei nodded eagerly, faces alight with joy. They didn’t care about Chunya’s condition; all they wanted to know was the baby’s gender.
“Doctor, did my daughter-in-law have a boy or a girl?” Wu Dongmei asked impatiently.
The nurse, holding the baby, replied, “It’s a girl. Here, you can hold her.”
The moment they heard Chunya had given birth to another girl, Sun Gui and Wu Dongmei’s expressions soured. Wu Dongmei, in particular, slapped her thigh and wailed, cursing loudly.
“Heavens above! Is Li Chunya trying to cut off the Sun family line? Can’t even give us a single boy!”
“I don’t care. I don’t want this money-draining brat. Whoever wants her can have her. Our Sun family has no use for Li Chunya or her three burdens!”
Wu Dongmei turned and marched away. Sun Gui, feeling unlucky, was about to follow her when he caught sight of Li Junsheng.
Sun Gui froze in his tracks.
The nurse held Chunya’s third daughter, waiting for someone to take her, but no one stepped forward.
Li Junsheng quickly went over and carefully cradled his granddaughter in his arms.
Seeing Wu Dongmei about to leave, Li Junsheng called out angrily, “Where are you going? Are you leaving the child and the mother behind? Why did Chunya give birth prematurely and start hemorrhaging?”
At his words, a flash of guilt crossed Sun Gui’s eyes.
He pretended not to hear Li Junsheng, unwilling to reveal the cause of Chunya’s condition. Otherwise, the old man would surely beat him black and blue.
Wu Dongmei, however, stopped and turned back, snapping at Li Junsheng, “Where are we going? Of course we’re going home! What else would we do here?”
“Your daughter gave birth to another money-draining girl and now needs emergency care, costing us a fortune. I’ve never seen a woman make such a fuss over childbirth. We can’t afford such a delicate daughter-in-law!”
“If I were your daughter, giving my husband three useless girls, I’d be ashamed to show my face and would rather jump into a well!”
The medical staff nearby couldn’t bear to listen any longer and tried to reason with Wu Dongmei. “Auntie, boys and girls are the same. How can you be so biased? You’re breaking their hearts!”
Wu Dongmei scoffed, clearly unmoved by their words.
Li Junsheng gently soothed his little granddaughter and said nothing. He wasn’t surprised by Wu Dongmei’s outburst—she’d said the same in his previous life.
Back then, after his daughter bore another girl, Wu Dongmei also washed her hands of both mother and child.
Wu Dongmei’s sharp tongue and venomous words had driven his daughter to despair, ultimately leading to tragedy.
