Chapter 66 Daydreaming Again
A few minutes earlier.
"Lee, did you just go out on a call?"
"Ah, Captain Gordon. I was just dealing with a very... very strange case."
"What kind of strange case?" Captain Gordon pulled out a pack of cigarettes and offered one to Captain Lee.
"If I have to call it something, I suppose it was a romantic dispute..." Captain Lee lit his cigarette, a rather peculiar expression on his face.
"A romantic dispute? But I saw you bringing quite a few lethal weapons into the evidence room," Captain Gordon asked with a puzzled look. "What's going on?"
"It really is bizarre when you hear about it. A smoking-hot girl took a fancy to a priest, but the priest probably held back due to his status and didn't accept her," Captain Lee took a deep drag, looking as if he was questioning the meaning of life. "As a result, the girl brought a dozen of her family members to ambush the priest, only for the priest to handle all of them by himself."
"There's such a thing?" Gordon felt like he was listening to a story. "That priest must be quite devout not to be moved by that."
"Who's saying otherwise? I also heard that the priest is a deeply devout believer who frequently helps homeless children. You don't see good men like that very often in Gotham."
"Yeah..." Gordon nodded, then suddenly felt something was amiss. "Wait, what's the priest's name?"
"Uh... Father Roland, I think."
"Oh no!" Gordon was startled. "This isn't right. Where is he? Take me to him!"
"What's wrong with it?" Captain Lee was taken aback by Gordon's sudden reaction.
"Damn it, if other people saw a beauty, they'd at least hesitate, but that bastard Roland would throw his boxers in her face within the first second! This is way off!" Gordon said anxiously. "Take me to Roland right now!"
"Oh... alright." Captain Lee nodded and led Gordon toward the small holding room.
Roland looked at Captain Gordon, who had just kicked the door open, with dark lines crisscrossing his forehead. "Seriously, what are you doing?"
"Uh..." Gordon noticed Roland was already preparing to undress, his old face darkening involuntarily. "You're going to do that right here in the precinct?"
"No, no, it's a misunderstanding..." Roland quietly pulled his pants back up. "We were just having a conversation... a bit of a romantic dispute, but it's all sorted out now."
"What on earth is going on here?" Gordon pulled Roland aside. "You weren't threatened by that woman, were you?"
"No. At first I thought she had ulterior motives, but now I pretty much know who she is... Talia al Ghul, the daughter of the Demon's Head," Roland told Gordon.
"You're telling me her father is an evil lord who has lived in this world for seven hundred years, possesses supreme wisdom and combat prowess along with immortality, and commands forces spanning the entire globe? And she, as that evil lord's most beloved daughter, took a fancy to your superior genes and wants to have a child with you who can rule the world? And she went so far as to mobilize her father's subordinates to kidnap you for this?"
"Right, exactly that."
"Roland," Gordon patted Roland's shoulder. "I told you last time, you need to show some restraint when playing with the Mad Hatter's Wonderland device. Look at you, now you're taking your daydreams seriously... What are we going to do with you?"
"I'm telling the truth."
"Ah, sure, sure... We'll go check on Glinda in a bit, though I'm reminding you now, she's Harvey's fiancée, so don't go getting any ideas about her too."
"No, you..." It took a great deal of effort for Roland to finally convince Gordon that he was telling the truth.
"Then those people who were captured are all members of the League of Assassins. How are we supposed to handle this?" Captain Gordon looked troubled.
"Release them, of course. Do you actually want to go toe-to-toe with Ra's al Ghul? Besides, it doesn't look like they have a criminal record here anyway, on what grounds are you detaining them?"
If assassins from the League of Assassins managed to leave a criminal record after pulling off a job, Ra's would have dragged them out and buried them long ago to save face. How could they possibly end up here?
"That makes sense, but knowing full well that they're assassins, just letting them go..."
"Stop worrying so much. Once I become Ra's's son-in-law, I'll make sure they all become public welfare ambassadors."
"So you're getting ready to make a baby now?"
"Well... about that..." Roland suddenly thought of something. "That really won't work."
Roland remembered his mixed-blood lineage. While this trait was pretty flashy on himself, passing it down to the next generation would spell trouble.
Among mixed-bloods, if the proportion of Draconic blood exceeds that of human blood, the mixed-blood begins to resemble Dragons more than humans, eventually degrading into a Dead Apostle.
Furthermore, Draconic blood can also manifest as a recessive trait in genetic inheritance, and this recessive gene can slowly awaken. This causes mixed-bloods to gradually undergo Draconic transformation, eventually crossing the 50% threshold and falling into the state of Dead Apostles.
Although Roland wasn't marrying a mixed-blood, that didn't mean there was no risk. Chu Tianjiao and Su Xiaoyan managed to produce Chu Zihang; who knew what kind of situation his own child would turn out to be?
He didn't have the Department of Genetic Science at Cassel College issuing a report to tell him the probability of unstable genes appearing in his offspring.
"What's your deal? Given your personality, shouldn't you have told me to scram and already dropped your pants by now?" Gordon asked quizzically.
"I have no hesitation about educational training, but having kids..."
"Hey, hey, hey, you should keep thoughts like that to yourself, why did you actually say it out loud? That's making it blatantly obvious that you don't want to take responsibility."
"Right? With a little baby around, how am I supposed to gallop across the fields?"
"লোকের... You even let Jason act as your wingman, so galloping across the fields with a kid doesn't sound entirely impossible to me."
"লোকের... How do you even know about that? Did Jason tell you?"
"No, Bruce told me."
"That's not the point... How am I supposed to reply to her?"
"Just honestly tell her you're rejecting her. I have to say, being able to reject a girl like that puts your status right behind Bruce's among us." Gordon patted Roland's shoulder. "Sigma Male, go get 'em."
"Um... Miss, I'm really not in a suitable position to have children right now," Roland said sincerely to Talia.
"Oh, why is that?" A hint of puzzlement laced Talia's tone. "Do you have some kind of reservations?"
"It's not reservations. My genes are a bit messed up right now. If I were to reproduce... I'd at least need to resolve the hidden dangers in my body first."
"What's wrong with your body?" Talia asked suspiciously, feeling that Roland was just trying to brush her off.
"It's a huge problem..." Roland squeezed a drop of blood from his fingertip and let it fall onto his sleeve. Within seconds, the sleeve burst apart.
Of course, Roland hadn't actually used Blood Burning, so it shouldn't normally achieve the same effect as Chu Zihang; this was just a minor application of the Red Characters.
Strictly speaking, this wasn't even a lie—dragon blood, after all, made things like this entirely normal.
"However, even though I can't reproduce right now, but..." Roland rubbed his hands together.
"লোকের... Today is literally the first time we've met. Aren't you moving a bit too fast?"
"You already wanted to make a baby with me, and you're calling *this* fast?"
"I was planning on in vitro fertilization... At most, I'd provide you with the spellcasting materials."
