Volume 1 Chapter 41: The King of Hell Calls the Roll
Yan Fengjia was furious.
This time, it was because someone had reached out to harm his family. Ever since he had been used by the Jiang family of the Heavenly Palace and discarded into the Phoenix Women’s Prison, where he unexpectedly inherited the peerless legacy of seven masters, he had sworn never again to let anyone manipulate him like a pawn. He would never again feel fear or compromise for anyone. If he ever did, it was only because he was not ruthless enough or lacked sufficient firepower.
At this moment, Yan Fengjia remained silent, but Yan Qiluo, who was driving, could feel the tangible killing intent radiating from him. She knew that the person who had dared to touch her master’s family would suffer unimaginable retribution.
Yan Fengjia took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Seventh Senior Sister, it’s me, Yan Fengjia. I need a favor. Dispatch people here at the fastest speed and surround the Long family estate, inside and out."
"You ask what kind of troublesome opponent I’ve encountered?"
Yan Fengjia sneered. "I mean to say that I am going to kill. I want you to watch the gate for me, Seventh Senior Sister. I don’t want to see a single living soul escape, other than those around me."
...
At the Long residence.
A man in a white tunic with eyes sharp as blades stood beside a coffin. Inside the coffin lay his daughter, the noblewoman. Kneeling before him were two others: one was the head of the China Bank, a middle-aged man with a slicked-back hairstyle; the other was his grandson, the young man whose roots had been crippled by Yan Fengjia.
"Because the two of you stirred up trouble, my daughter died at the hands of an outsider, and you still don't even know she is dead."
"Little Liu," the old man in the white tunic looked at his son-in-law, "my daughter was cleaning up the mess created by your son and your nephew, the bank manager, yet you were still complaining that she had caused you to lose your job. I am very disappointed in you."
The middle-aged man’s pupils contracted in boundless terror. "Father-in-law, I only just found out about this. I truly thought my wife was just angry at me and refusing to answer my calls, so..."
"So you just ignored it?" The old man’s icy gaze fell upon him. In an instant, the middle-aged man felt as if his throat had been crushed, and he began to tremble with fear.
"Grandfather, my mother is dead! I have no mother anymore! I want revenge!" the young man roared in fury.
The old man offered a disappointed smile. "Too late. If you had been this bold before, instead of letting your mother speak for you, I might have respected you a little."
"You only lost a mother, and your father can always remarry. But she was my only daughter."
"And you carry the surname Liu; you are an outsider after all. How could you possibly understand the pain of a man losing his daughter in his twilight years?"
"So, if this matter is not handled properly today, you and your father will go down to join her."
He had always been firmly against his daughter marrying this man. Now, he regretted not killing the man outright back then to break his daughter’s obsession. And now, to have birthed such an incompetent son—his own mother was dead, yet he was still enjoying himself at the hospital? He was utterly disappointed.
His peripheral vision shifted to the corner, locking onto Yan’s father and Qin Wanqiu.
"Old man, your son killed my daughter. Don't worry; since he is a martial artist, we will handle this according to the rules of the pugilistic world."
"If he can survive by my hand, I will let this matter go. But let me state clearly: if he dies, everyone here will pay the price with him."
The young man was so terrified that he hugged the old man’s thigh. "Grandfather, I’m your grandson! You can’t let me die; I still need to carry on the family line for you!"
His grandfather had completely lost his mind—was he actually going to kill him too?
The middle-aged man broke into a cold sweat. Upon hearing these words, he lost all sense of reason, jumped up, and bolted toward the door.
"A faithless wretch indeed. I told that girl to see through his character, but she wouldn't believe me. If you can't fulfill your duties as a husband, what is the point of living?"
The old man’s withered hand slammed onto the table, shattering a teacup instantly. A shard flew out like a bullet, piercing the middle-aged man’s skull in an instant.
"Dad!" the young man shrieked, collapsing to the ground.
The old man stood up calmly and looked toward the door. "Three minutes left. If he hasn't arrived when the time is up, the rest of you can start your journey early."
Just then, a tall man with sword-like eyebrows and star-bright eyes walked in. It was Yan Fengjia.
Seeing Yan Fengjia appear, Qin Wanqiu struggled. "Fengjia, why did you really come? This man is a lunatic; he even killed his own son-in-law and grandson! Leave quickly!"
"Fengjia, I won't stop you this time, Father," Yan’s father said, closing his eyes with a long sigh. "This man has descended into madness. If you can defeat him, then rid the world of this evil and save the common people."
Yan Fengjia said softly, "Father, Sister Wanqiu, I am truly sorry. I never imagined this would implicate you."
"Rest assured, it won't take long. Give me a moment."
With that, Yan Fengjia walked toward the old man in the white tunic. The old man’s face still bore a look of grief, but his eyes were filled with boundless killing intent as he looked at Yan Fengjia.
"I had someone investigate you. You are an ex-convict. You must have received help from some master in that prison, which is how you embarked on the path of martial arts, right?"
"So what?" Yan Fengjia replied.
"You have only been in the martial arts for a few years. Even if you are gifted, you are at most an Internal Force martial artist. Even with good fortune, I’ll assume you’ve reached the Transformation Force stage."
"I grew up in a poor family and began my training at eight. In my twilight years, I have come to realize that there is always someone better. That is why I have always been cautious, polite, and low-key, trying to secure blessings for my daughter."
"But she was my only daughter, raised with my own blood and sweat. You killed her and destroyed my only kindness."
"Today, I will show you what a true Grandmaster realm is."
He stomped his foot, and a terrifying aura erupted from the old man. The floor instantly crumbled into powder and collapsed under his feet.
Yan Fengjia remained calm. "If you think you have the strength, then come ahead."
"Oh?" The old man was taken aback, then burst into laughter. "You think that with your few years of cultivation, you have a chance against my decades of power?"
Yan Fengjia smiled. "A three-seven split."
"You think you have three, and I have seven?"
Yan Fengjia replied, "Wrong. I meant that I will count to three, and you will be holding your funeral."
"You arrogant little brat!" The old man’s eyes narrowed as he lunged straight at Yan Fengjia’s face. His withered, aged hand struck out toward Yan’s head. The palm was ferocious, carrying the force of thunder, creating a piercing sonic boom.
"Fengjia, look out!" Qin Wanqiu cried out, nearly fainting at the sight.
Yet at that moment, Yan Fengjia moved. From his pocket, his well-defined right palm suddenly shot out, slapping the old man’s face with even greater speed.
"Slap!"
The strike landed, like the silence before a storm. With a single blow, the old man’s entire head was shattered like a watermelon, blood splattering across the grand hall.
A one-hit kill.
"That’s the strength you use to claim the Grandmaster realm?"
"Trash."
Dead silence. Absolute silence. No one had expected that this old man in the white tunic, who had exuded the aura of a powerhouse, would fail to survive a single slap from this young man. He had been killed on the spot?
"Grandfather!" the young man screamed, shattering the silence. "You... you killed my grandfather! How did you do that?"
Yan Fengjia ignored him and hurried to untie his father and Qin Wanqiu.
"Father, Sister Wanqiu, my Seventh Senior Sister is waiting outside. You should both leave."
"Fengjia, what are you doing? He’s already dead; let’s leave quickly," Qin Wanqiu urged, pulling at him.
Yan Fengjia shook his head. "This incident has sounded an alarm for me. To be safe, I intend to settle the accounts with every network in their circle."
"Wanqiu, let's go. Yan Fengjia is no longer a child we need to worry about," Yan’s father said. He had long realized that his son was no ordinary man. He had already grown to a height that his father could only look up to. The only reason he had kept a low profile in Qinghai City was to care for his father in his final years. Yan Fengjia didn't say it, and he didn't ask. This was the silent understanding between father and son.
But even Yan’s father had underestimated Yan Fengjia. As he and Qin Wanqiu walked out of the Long estate, they were stunned by the sight of a massive procession of luxury cars and a sea of people.
Leading them was Gusu Yanrou, who had been waiting for a long time.
"Elder Yan, Sister Wanqiu, please get in the car. Leave the rest to me and Fengjia."
"Very well," Yan’s father nodded, knowing he should not interfere.
After sending them away, Gusu Yanrou looked toward the gate of the Long estate and smiled. This was the first time her youngest junior brother had acted with such high profile. Today, every network that had targeted his family would be liquidated.
Inside the hall, the young man knelt before Yan Fengjia, weeping. "Big brother, please spare me. My whole family is dead; I am no threat to you."
Yan Fengjia smiled faintly.
"I can let you leave, but you will answer every question I ask."
"List every force you believe has connections to your grandfather’s and your father’s families. Answer me honestly, and I will let you live."
As he spoke, Yan Fengjia took out a pen and a piece of paper, beginning his grim tally.
"Alright, you may begin."
