Volume 1, Chapter 32: I Never Hold a Grudge Overnight, Because I Take My Revenge Right Now
Yan Fengjia wore an expression of deep self-reproach. It was clear that this attack, like the one the previous night, had been aimed squarely at him. But who could it be?
Carefully, he peeled away Gu Qinghan’s blood-soaked clothing. The bullet had struck her near the upper part of her chest, just below her shoulder.
"It hurts!" As Yan Fengjia’s fingers touched the wound, Gu Qinghan’s willow-leaf brows knitted together in agony. Her cold hands gripped his arm so tightly that her nails dug into his flesh.
"It’s alright, take this pill," Yan Fengjia said, feeding her a Yangyuan Pill and helping her wash it down with a bottle of mineral water.
Outside, the room was in chaos, and Shen Man was visibly shaken. She hadn't expected that her body would instinctively move to shield Yan Fengjia earlier—it was completely out of character for her. What surprised her even more was that Gu Qinghan hadn't hesitated for a second, reacting even faster than she had. If she had been the one hit by the bullet, would Yan Fengjia be this worried about her?
"Where is my daughter? Where is she?" Gu Cangfeng, his temples dusted with frost, came charging in like a madman.
Shen Man quickly stepped forward. "Mr. Gu, Yan Fengjia is treating Ms. Gu right now. No one is allowed to disturb him. You can rest assured regarding his medical skills."
Gu Cangfeng paced back and forth in anxiety. "Has the ambulance arrived? Why isn't it here yet?"
A staff member replied nervously, "It’s on the way. They said it will be another twenty minutes."
"Tell them to hurry! If anything happens to my daughter, I won't want to live either."
Soon, the lounge door opened, and Gu Cangfeng rushed in, grabbing Yan Fengjia’s hand. "Fengjia, how is my daughter?"
Yan Fengjia smiled. "Don't worry, Uncle Gu. She’s going to be fine."
"My daughter!" Gu Cangfeng rushed inside, breaking down into loud sobs in the lounge.
Outside, the others looked at each other in confusion. Only Shen Man approached him. "Have you offended someone lately? This was clearly aimed at you."
Yan Fengjia looked at the body on the floor covered by a cloth, his expression turning grim. "I will get to the bottom of this quickly." He took a few deep breaths, forcing his anger down. He couldn't afford to lose his temper now, or his bloodline would spiral out of control. He certainly couldn't ask Shen Man to help him with that.
"Fengjia, come here, my daughter wants to see you," Gu Cangfeng called out. Though his face was streaked with tears, he wore the smile of someone who had survived a catastrophe.
Yan Fengjia entered and took Gu Qinghan’s hand. "It’s okay. The ambulance will be here soon. I gave you a Yangyuan Pill, it won't leave a scar."
"Fengjia, thank you."
"Don't say such silly things," Yan Fengjia said, tenderly brushing the damp hair from her smooth forehead. "Rest easy. I’ll stay with you. If you’re tired, you can sleep for a while."
The ambulance soon arrived, and Yan Fengjia accompanied the father and daughter to the hospital. Yan’s father, having heard the news from somewhere, rushed to the scene as well.
"Cangfeng, as long as Qinghan is alright, don't worry. I’ve seen this boy Fengjia’s medical skills before. If he says she’s fine, then she’s definitely fine."
The two men looked at the two women in the hospital ward and smiled with relief. Gu Cangfeng nodded. "I held personal prejudices against Fengjia before, but this boy is someone she can entrust her life to."
"Old man, you have only one son, and I have only one daughter. Why don't we discuss it? What about the marriage between these two children?"
Elder Yan was naturally willing, but he sighed with a sense of helplessness. "Cangfeng, I would love for Qinghan to be my daughter-in-law. But I can tell that Fengjia is carrying some heavy burdens. He doesn't want to tell me, and I don't want to pry. Ultimately, we should leave it up to him."
The two elders looked at their children, lost in their own thoughts.
In the afternoon, Yan Fengjia’s phone rang. It was his seventh senior sister, Gusu Yanrou.
"Little Fengjia, I’ve found a lead. Do you know a guy named Liu Neng?"
Yan Fengjia was stunned. "Liu Neng?" The name sounded very familiar. Then he remembered. His expression turned icy. "It was him."
"Alright, Seventh Senior Sister, wait for me. I’ll be there soon."
After hanging up, he realized that some things, if left unaddressed, only invite further disaster. Had he been too kind after all? He made up an excuse to leave and headed straight for the address Gusu Yanrou had provided.
The Sky Theme Restaurant was where many prominent figures in Qinghai City gathered for dinner. Ever since Liu Neng, the bank president, had been forced by Yan Fengjia to swallow that poisonous tea, he had been certain he was a dead man. However, after Tiger Lord died, his younger brother had taken over his position and provided an antidote in time to save him.
"Don't worry, President Liu. The people I sent are professional killers. Even if they get caught, they won't reveal anything about you or me," Lei Xiaohu said, swirling his red wine with a mocking smile as he looked at the anxious Liu Neng.
Liu Neng looked sullen. "If you get any news, let me know immediately."
"Rest assured. Once the heat dies down, the killer I sent will contact me."
"Fine, I trust you. You’re more disciplined than your brother. I’ll promote you in the future."
"Thank you, President Liu," Lei Xiaohu said, looking thrilled.
Just then, a scream erupted in the Sky Theme Restaurant. A security guard came flying through the air as Yan Fengjia and Gusu Yanrou burst in.
"He... how is he not dead?" Lei Xiaohu was shocked to see Yan Fengjia. Liu Neng froze in terror, scrambling backward.
"President Liu, where are you going?" Yan Fengjia said with a faint smile. "Didn't you want to send people to kill me? Well, I’m here now."
"What... what do you want?" Liu Neng’s fat face trembled as he hid behind Lei Xiaohu.
Seeing the man who killed his brother, Lei Xiaohu was filled with murderous intent. "Damn you! You’re certainly hard to kill, aren't you? Since you’ve walked into the gates of hell yourself, don't blame me."
Lei Xiaohu waved his hand, and all the men who had once belonged to Tiger Lord surged forward. Seeing this, many of the elites fled in panic, afraid of being caught in the crossfire.
Yan Fengjia remained calm and looked at the crowd. "I have some private business to settle with President Liu today. Anyone else who is uninvolved can leave now."
A group of people scrambled for the exit, desperate to avoid the trouble.
"Kid, you killed my brother. Let’s settle everything here and now."
Yan Fengjia smiled. "I have no interest in you. I’m here for him. If you want to die, you’ll have to wait in line."
Seeing Yan Fengjia pointing at him, Liu Neng instinctively backed away, trying to escape through the back door. But as he opened the door to reach the stairwell, a cold, golden Desert Eagle barrel appeared, pressed against his forehead.
Yan Qiluo’s eyes were cold. "Move again, and I’ll blow your head off."
"Don't... don't be impulsive! Yan Fengjia, we can talk about this. I have money, I’ll give you money, how about that?" Liu Neng raised his hands, so terrified he had wet his pants.
Lei Xiaohu, who had been arrogant just a moment ago, was also rattled by the sight of the gun. But he quickly regained his composure. "It’s just one gun, that woman doesn't have the guts... President Liu, don't be afraid, I have plenty of men—"
*Bang!*
Yan Qiluo shot Lei Xiaohu through the head and said coldly, "Too much talk. Master, what should we do with this fat pig?"
President Liu knelt down, shivering. "Yan Fengjia, don't kill me! My aunt is a senior executive at the China Bank. Killing me won't do you any good!"
Yan Fengjia walked toward him. "Oh, how impressive. A senior executive at the China Bank."
"What... what are you doing?" Tears and snot streamed down Liu Neng’s face.
Yan Fengjia smiled faintly. "It wouldn't matter if you tried to kill me yourself, but you sent people to hurt Gu Qinghan. That means there’s no way this ends well."
With that, Yan Fengjia grabbed Liu Neng and threw him out of the building. This time, Liu Neng wasn't as lucky as before. After falling dozens of stories, there was a deafening thud. On the ground below, the two-hundred-pound man lay in a pile of mangled flesh and broken bones.
"Liu Neng..."
In the distance, a woman stepped out of a luxury car and witnessed the scene. Her eyes rolled back in her head, and she fainted on the spot.
