Volume 1, Chapter 35: Jiang Yu Is No Longer the Person Who Can Be Pushed Around at Will
The seventh night since the hospital was sealed off.
Jiang Chengzhi sat in a corner on the first floor, Jiang Yuehua cradled in his arms, her cheeks feverish and her lips cracked.
They had been subsisting on the hospital’s thin porridge and pickles, and their money had run out long ago.
He gazed at the patients nearby who had family members caring for them, and an indescribable bitterness welled up in his heart.
“This faint spot of light? When did it appear? It definitely wasn’t there just now.” Du Feng stared at the token in astonishment.
Not long afterward came the news that the Earth Dragon had been slain. From the opening moments until now, the entire pace of the battle had remained in the opponent’s hands. Lin Xuan had never even found the chance to seize the initiative. First, he had been pinned beneath the tower and unable to escape; then he had been killed.
Still, for the troops that had advanced ahead of the main force, it was at least fortunate that, after being scattered, they had managed to reform into a remnant formation and withdraw, rather than dissolving into a rout on the spot. Of course, that owed something to the cavalry’s support and to the psychological confidence provided by the main army behind them.
“It’s nothing. You haven’t had your Yin-Yang Eyes for very long, have you? At first, it’s always frightening, but little by little, you stop being afraid.” As Wei Yaoqing spoke, she shifted aside to let a dazed ghost clutching its head drift past. She casually took the head from its hands, set it back in place, and straightened it for the ghost.
Naturally, for reasons of their own, after the righteous army captured the first settlement bold enough to resist, they took only its wealth, livestock, money, grain, and supplies. The remaining land and inhabitants were awarded to the most outstanding families among those who had guided them there. The price, however, was that those families had to execute the settlement’s former masters with their own hands.
Amid a thunderous shout, the Grand Master of the Imperial Academy unleashed his divine-level cultivation, intimidating everyone present. Seeing this, Su Huan Zhen and the Legendary Qianye immediately stepped forward and attacked, suppressing him. The three unleashed extraordinary techniques in succession, and after a fierce exchange, each was left wounded.
Weariness slowly invaded her mind. After putting on an eye mask, Qiao Qingling began to drift into a heavy sleep.
“There’s nothing interesting here, Shuying. I’m leaving.” Li Qin had no desire to attend any sort of alumni gathering and turned to walk away.
The feeling was faint and elusive, rather like working through Question Twenty on the Jiangsu mathematics college-entrance examination. The difficulty was practically hellish, yet somewhere within it, he could dimly grasp a thread of thought.
When I checked the time, it was only a little after three. After bidding farewell to the Ring Immortal, I went back to sleep. This time, the Dish Immortal did not appear in my dream.
I had always thought that my younger sister’s body had not fully developed and that she was little different from a child.
She looked at Jialan’s beautiful pure-white dress and the diamond necklace around her neck, and fury flared in her heart. She had seen that necklace in Grandmother’s jewelry box and had always wanted it, but Grandmother had never given it to her. Now she had actually given it to Jialan. How could that not be infuriating?
Gu Liuxi gazed at his gentle face and sighed. A handsome man was a handsome man—perfect from every angle, devastatingly beautiful, enough to turn the world upside down.
Reynolds glanced at the spiritual liquid that had been almost entirely drained from the pool, gave a bitter smile, and tilted his chin upward. Then he sprang into the air and leaped out of the divine temple’s pool of spiritual liquid.
I thought it made sense, so I called Fatty Tao and asked him to accompany me to deposit the money. He agreed immediately. In less than ten minutes, Fatty Tao came rushing over with Xiangzi. We exchanged a few words with Liu Manman’s parents, then carried the two snakeskin sacks out of the hospital.
I felt the wind rising as well. The monster’s blood-red eye stood out even more clearly beneath the gloomy sky. Suddenly, with a sharp crack from within the clouds, a bolt of purple lightning as thick as a barrel came hurtling down from above and struck the monster directly on the crown of its head.
The lonely lamp beyond the broken window illuminated Li Yuer’s boudoir. When Ye Chen saw the alluring figure inside, heat and delight surged through his heart. He raised a leg, leaped through the doorway, and then fastened the door behind him.
