After Snape left, the room seemed strangely empty. Chu Yang released the owl from its cage and began giving it an extra meal.

“Big White Fatty, eat a little more. If we ever fall on hard times, you’ll be our emergency rations, so you’d better put on a bit more weight.”

The owl, which had been burying its head in the food and devouring it, shuddered and slowly pulled its head free of the pile.

Chu Yang smiled, pleased with the success of his prank.

Exhausted, he collapsed onto the bed. Before he knew it, his eyes had closed. He had no idea how much time had passed when he vaguely heard someone speaking beside him.

“Goyle, Crabbe, although I missed the Sorting Ceremony this time because I was ill, my father went to the trouble of arranging a double room for me so I could rest properly. He even said he would come to the school personally and give Dumbledore a piece of his mind!”

“When he does, I’m definitely going to make him have all those monsters in the lake cleared out!”

“Someone’s sleeping here. He must be my roommate. Let’s go say hello…”

As soon as the words ended, Chu Yang opened his eyes and saw the three Malfoys—no, Draco Malfoy, Goyle, and Crabbe—standing stiffly before him, staring at him in stunned silence.

“So you’re my new roommate?” Chu Yang said irritably, still bleary-eyed. “You woke me up. Do you know that?”

“Sorry!”

Goyle and Crabbe bowed at the waist in perfect unison.

Malfoy’s family background was indeed impressive.

But at school, Chu Yang’s fists were just as formidable, and the two boys knew that very well.

“You two cowards, why are you showing him so much respect?” Malfoy had only just returned from the hospital wing, and his voice was full of vigor. He clearly had no idea how dangerous his situation was.

By now, Chu Yang had been completely roused by his booming voice. Sitting on the bed, he stared at Malfoy with unmistakable displeasure.

“Draco, there’s something I haven’t had the chance to tell you…” Goyle sidled up to Malfoy and whispered an account of the exciting events he had missed over the past two days.

As he listened, Malfoy’s expression changed dramatically. His earlier arrogance vanished without a trace, and he asked, half-believing and half-doubting, “Are you two joking with me? How could he possibly have beaten so many people bare-handed?”

Goyle and Crabbe shook their heads in unison. Goyle even warned him, “Draco, you’d better believe us…”

Malfoy was about to say something else when Chu Yang, still seated on the bed, pulled a bookmark from his book. He wrapped it in Armament Haki and flicked it away.

The bookmark shot from his hand like a cannon shell and embedded itself firmly in the doorframe above the three boys’ heads.

More than half of the bookmark sank into the wooden doorframe as easily as a knife cutting through tofu.

Malfoy’s pupils contracted sharply. Goyle and Crabbe cried out, and the three of them clasped hands as they retreated step by step toward the doorway in terror.

“Sorry. I get a little irritable when I’m woken up.” Sitting on the bed, Chu Yang looked at Malfoy with an ambiguous smile. “What are you waiting for? Come in and sleep. It’s already so late.”

Then he turned to Goyle and Crabbe. “What? Are the two of you planning to stay the night as well?”

The moment he said this, the two big, pale, pudgy boys abandoned the trembling Malfoy beside them and ran without hesitation, vanishing through the doorway in an instant.

“You despicable traitors!” Malfoy shouted, shocked and furious.

He wanted to run too, but he had no strength left in his body. His legs felt as heavy as if they had been filled with lead.

A sudden chill rose from his back and shot straight to the base of his skull. Malfoy’s breathing became rapid, and he said in a trembling, tearful voice, “I’m very sorry for disturbing your sleep…”

“I accept your apology, Mr. Malfoy.” Chu Yang yawned and lay back down. “I hope you won’t wake me again. Preferably, don’t make a single sound. I’m a very light sleeper.”

Malfoy glanced up at the bookmark deeply embedded in the doorframe, swallowed nervously, and then covered his throat in fright.

He had just realized that in the quiet, empty room, even the sound of swallowing was remarkably loud.

Although Chu Yang had said he could come in and sleep, Malfoy did not dare remain in the same room as him. He crept out on tiptoe, remembering to close the door behind him.

Poor Malfoy spent his first night out of the hospital wing sleeping in the common room.

Fortunately, no one tried to take the sofa from him, and the fire in the common room never went out.

Amid the flickering firelight, Malfoy curled up on the sofa and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, Malfoy awoke to a wave of incredulous laughter.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself surrounded by students, including several upperclassmen.

And even…

Professor Snape, Head of Slytherin House, was standing directly in front of him!

“Good heavens! I only came to take a look, just in case, but I never expected the common room to have a guest last night after all!” Snape said grimly, already in a foul mood. “Are first-years so enamored of this common room that they have to fight over the privilege of sleeping here?”

“Stand up, Malfoy!”

At the sound of Snape’s furious roar, Malfoy jolted awake. His sleepiness vanished at once, and he scrambled clumsily off the sofa.

The laughter around him grew louder, until Snape’s dark gaze swept across the room.

Only then did the students lower their heads and hurry out of the common room.

The disheveled Malfoy climbed to his feet and hastily smoothed his hair before saying respectfully, “Good morning, Professor Snape.”

“Good morning? I should say it is anything but good!” Snape snapped angrily. “Your classmates spent the entire night sleeping in the common room. Not only did they discard every shred of Slytherin etiquette, they also cost the house points on the very first day of term!”

“And now you have done exactly the same thing?” Snape’s voice echoed in Malfoy’s ears like a storm raging through a valley. “May I ask what would happen if your father saw you behaving like this at school?”

Malfoy trembled from head to toe and immediately pleaded in a low voice, “Professor, please don’t let my father find out. He’ll kill me…”

Seeing the fear in Malfoy’s eyes, Snape breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

“Now tell me. Why were you sleeping here?”

Malfoy hesitated, but under Snape’s piercing stare, he eventually stammered out everything that had happened the previous night.

“A small scrap of paper, without the assistance of any magic, embedded itself in a doorframe like a knife?” Snape gave a disdainful laugh. “Mr. Malfoy, are you telling me a story?”

“Perhaps I should help you submit it to the Daily Prophet or The Quibbler, you great novelist, Mr. Draco Malfoy!”

Malfoy burst into tears of grievance and said in a small voice, “Professor, I wasn’t lying. Goyle and Crabbe both saw it!”

This time, Snape began to waver between belief and doubt.

Could something so outrageous really have happened?
