Wu Zhen’s slap never landed; Shen Zhihan kicked her down with a single blow.
He did not strike women, but anyone who bullied An’an, no matter who they were, he would never let go!
An’an never lied. If she said something, it must have been something she just overheard from some little creature.
The nation had invested great effort in cultivating an outstanding firefighter, and yet Wu Zhen had committed spousal murder!
He felt no remorse at all for that kick—such a disgusting and detestable woman.
The crowd murmured among themselves, “Good heavens, how could this be? If it’s true, it’s terrifying to think about.”
“Oh my! This twist is beyond imagination. But how did that little girl know? She looks only two or three years old.”
“Look at her clear and beautiful eyes. Children have pure hearts and can see things adults cannot. Maybe what she said is true.”
Shen Zhihan instructed his bodyguards to call the police immediately.
Director Li and the officers arrived soon after.
Wu Zhen, upon seeing Director Li, looked as if she had found her savior.
“Director Li, please save me.”
Director Li was somewhat surprised to see Shen Zhihan there. “Zhihan, what are you doing here?”
“Uncle Li,” Shen Zhihan greeted calmly, “Is this woman’s husband one of your subordinates?”
Director Li’s expression turned grave. “Yes, Xiao is an exceptional firefighter who participated in over two hundred rescue missions. He was passionate and dedicated to the nation and the people—a rare and promising talent. And you?”
“You came just in time. I reported the case. This woman is suspected of murdering a national pillar. Comrade Xiao’s death has suspicious circumstances.”
An’an whispered a few words in Shen Zhihan’s ear.
He nodded slightly and turned to Director Li. “The evidence you need is at Comrade Xiao’s mother’s house. In the room where Comrade Xiao slept, there is an old phone. The elderly woman doesn’t use a smartphone. It was her son’s keepsake, originally intended for the daughter-in-law, but because she is forgetful, it remained there.”
Wu Zhen’s body swayed and she fainted immediately.
Xiao Duoduo anxiously shook her. “Mommy, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me, Mommy...”
Director Li made a call, sending someone to retrieve the old phone from Xiao’s mother’s house.
Shen Zhihan had a bodyguard splash cold water on Wu Zhen, and when she regained consciousness, she wanted to protest her innocence, but Director Li had already received the chat records from his team. Filled with pain, anger, and disappointment, his face darkened. “Good, good, good, you’re amazing! You actually killed my most promising talent! Xiao would have taken over my position in a few years! Take her away!”
Li Changsheng had long noticed An’an. Seeing Shen Zhihan holding her, he hesitated before speaking, “Who is this?”
If the situation had been appropriate, he truly wanted to take a photo of the two and send it to his son, Li Yifeng.

Li Yifeng and Shen Zhihan were about the same age, both with carefree personalities. Li Yifeng often caused trouble at his rural home and was rarely around.
“This is my daughter, An’an. An’an, this is Grandpa Li.”
Daughter?
Li Changsheng suspected he had misheard.
Li Yifeng had once been close with Shen Zhihan. Neither had been in a relationship, but rumors swirled that Li Yifeng secretly admired Shen Zhihan—that they had something going on.
Did Shen Zhihan reproduce asexually?
Even so, it was impossible to suddenly have such a grown daughter.
“Hello, Grandpa Li,” An’an greeted politely.
Li Changsheng’s stern face softened into a loving smile. “Ah, good girl, An’an. I have something to do now. Come play at Grandpa’s house next time.”
Li Changsheng left hastily.
Shen Zhihan also left with An’an and immediately called Zhou Haochen.
“Haochen, prepare a private room and have the chef make kid-friendly food—hamburgers, ice cream, strawberry cake, pudding.”
Zhou Haochen glanced suspiciously at the number, confirming it was Shen Zhihan.
“Have you been possessed? Or, Shen Zhihan, have you turned young again? Haha.”
Shen Zhihan was speechless—his friends were all unreliable.
An’an looked up at Shen Zhihan; she had heard the uncle’s teasing through the phone.
She was happy for Shen Zhihan, thinking he was a lonely man, but now she saw he had friends too—how wonderful!
“Do what you’re told! My daughter wants to eat this! I’ll be there in thirty minutes. If it’s not ready when I arrive, take some meat off your plate for my daughter.”
An’an grabbed Shen Zhihan’s sleeve in horror. “Daddy, I don’t want to eat uncle’s meat.”
Hearing the little girl’s adorable voice, Zhou Haochen bumped into a wall. “Holy crap! Shen Zhihan, you’re really a dad now? Which woman stole your seed?”
Shen Zhihan didn’t want to argue and hung up.
He patted An’an’s head. “Sorry, Daddy was joking. Let’s go to another place for hamburgers. I promise I’ll do what I said.”
“Thank you, Daddy!” An’an beamed.
Once in the car, Shen Zhihan asked, “Who told you that uncle was harmed?”
An’an glanced back at the tabby cat trailing behind the car. “Little Li told me. Daddy, can we keep Little Li?”
Shen Zhihan had the driver stop. The tabby cat looked up at them steadily.
He nodded, and An’an happily got out, beckoning to the cat. “Little Li, Little Li, come with me. Little Li, I’ll feed you fishies!”
The tabby meowed once, and An’an turned back, delighted. “Daddy, Little Li said it agrees.”
An’an crouched down as the cat approached, and she embraced it without hesitation.
The cat obediently nestled in her arms and licked its paws.
Inside the car, Shen Zhihan frowned slightly and said to the cat, “Ask it if it has fleas.”
The cat, previously calm, instantly became angry, meowing loudly several times. Though Shen Zhihan could not understand, he felt it was swearing profusely.
The kitten leapt from An’an’s arms and swiped at Shen Zhihan.
Luckily, Shen Zhihan was wearing a suit and was not scratched.
An’an hurriedly scolded the cat with a stern little face. “Little Li, this is my daddy. You aren’t allowed to bully my daddy! If you bully daddy, you won’t get fishies! I love daddy the most!”
The cat, scolded, retreated into An’an’s arms, lowering its head and carefully pawing at her while meowing nonstop, “Sorry, I don’t have fleas. I’m very clean!”
Seeing the kitten calm, An’an smiled brightly. “Daddy, Little Li says it has no fleas. It’s very clean.”
Meanwhile, at the police station, the investigation into Xiao Liwei’s death was progressing urgently.
With conclusive evidence and caught off guard, Wu Zhen confessed to the crime without hesitation.
Years ago, Wu Zhen had pursued Xiao Liwei.
Xiao Liwei had lost his father early and came from a modest background.
After starting work, he won the favor of Li Changsheng and was close with Li Yifeng.
Li Yifeng was generous and treated Xiao Liwei like a brother, always buying two of everything and giving one to Xiao Liwei.
Xiao Liwei refused, but Li Yifeng pretended to be angry and threatened to throw it away.
Wu Zhen dreamed of marrying into wealth, but apart from her beauty, her academics and work were average. The wealthy she met only saw her as a toy.
When she saw Xiao Liwei’s attire, she mistakenly thought he was wealthy, schemed to sleep with him, and became pregnant.
