Seeing the old master’s stiff limbs, Zihan Shen let out a slight scoff. “Old man, hold her properly. Don’t drop my daughter.”
He had forgotten that when he first held An’an, he hadn’t been any gentler.
The old master came back to his senses and, unusually, didn’t retort but carefully cradled An’an in his arms.
An’an, small and slender, sat on the old master’s lap with a sweet smile, looking proud and lively. “Great-grandpa, let’s go.”
The old master wheeled An’an around several times.
Zihan Shen’s voice turned cold. “Check everyone who might have recently handled the old man’s food and medicine. I want the results before dinner.”
“Yes, Mr. Shen.” The bodyguard took the order and left.
The wheelchair stopped, and An’an’s little face flushed with excitement, her eyes sparkling.
Zihan Shen reached out to lift her down, while the old master looked somewhat lost.
“Happy?”
“Mm, happy!” The little darling was easily satisfied.
Zihan Shen carried An’an toward the villa where he lived. Seeing the old master still standing there, he snorted lightly. “Old man, didn’t you say you wanted to come? Why aren’t you leaving? Should I hire a royal sedan chair for you?”
An’an, however, was pricking up her ears, listening to the magpies chirping in the trees. Her little head nodded occasionally, and she murmured softly, her eyes shining with intense focus and cuteness.
After Zihan Shen finished speaking, An’an tugged his sleeve. “Daddy, you should call great-grandpa ‘grandpa.’ Calling him ‘old man’ makes him unhappy. If you care about great-grandpa but don’t say it, how will he know?”
Zihan Shen’s thoughts were pierced through. He snorted coldly, “Who cares about him!”
The old master chimed in unison, “Who asked him to care!”
An’an shook her head, her small face full of confusion.
She had heard from Sister Magpie that when the old master was sick, Zihan Shen hadn’t slept for two days and nights, tirelessly searching for the best doctors for him.
Two hours later, Zihan Shen received a call and immediately stood up. “I have to go out for a while.”
The old master seemed to understand and looked up at Zihan Shen. “I’ll go with you.”
“Are you sure?”
The old master nodded.
An’an was flipping through the picture books in front of her.
Zihan Shen had prepared many picture books for An’an, with few words, many beautiful illustrations—perfect for early reading education.
This was a reading list recommended to him by a children’s book expert.

“An’an, Grandpa and I are going out on some business. We’ll be back soon. Stay here and read. If you get hungry, just eat.”
“Okay, I know, Daddy. Great-grandpa, you both go ahead.”
An’an’s eyes shone brightly as she stared at the books.
Before, she had been scolded several times for looking at Xiaohua’s comic books.
Now, with so many books of her own, she no longer envied other children!
In the villa where the old master lived, a young man was tied up tightly.
Seeing him, the old master was shocked and stepped forward hurriedly. “Why have you tied him up?”
Zihan Shen grabbed the old master’s wheelchair, immobilizing him, and the old master cursed, “You unfilial brat! Let me go!”
“Grandpa, this is the man who poisoned your medicine.”
Banghua Li glared hard at the old master, a sinister and evil smile curling his lips. “Old man, you’re really lucky! If I had poisoned you three more times, you’d be dead without anyone knowing.”
A chill ran down the old master’s spine. “I treated you like my own grandson. Why would you do this to me?”
“Heh, treat you like my grandson? More like a turtle grandson! You say you care about me, but what did you do? You only sent me to work as some low-level manager at Shen Corporation! At least give me a branch to manage! I can’t wait anymore. When you die, half your fortune will be mine.”
Banghua Li was the son of an old friend of the old master. Out of old affection, and since his parents had died early, the old master had taken him in, only to fuel his ambition.
He had made a will leaving half his property to Banghua Li, but little did he expect it would become a death warrant.
Zihan Shen kicked hard, striking Banghua Li’s chest.
“What are you? My own grandson is still alive. You won’t inherit the old man’s fortune. You old fool, how could you leave your inheritance to an outsider?”
The old master glanced sideways at him. “And where are you better off? I heard you also made a will, leaving your estate to some woman!”
Bring it on, hurt each other then.
Zihan Shen’s expression stiffened momentarily but quickly returned to normal.
“Take him away. Cut out his tongue, then send him abroad.”
“Ah, ah, ah! You can’t do this! Zihan Shen, you’ll die a horrible death!”
Screams echoed out.
Zihan Shen gave a signal, and someone immediately covered Banghua Li’s mouth.
Suddenly, Zihan Shen thought of something. Since An’an could understand animal language, surely no little creature could spread word of everything happening here?
He looked around; not even the shadow of a mosquito was in sight, so he relaxed.

Zihan Shen looked coldly at Banghua Li. “I’ve already died once. You should be grateful I have a daughter now. Otherwise…”
Banghua Li nearly fainted from the pain.
Having a daughter was impressive? None of his business!
He tried to beg for mercy, but his tongue was gone, leaving only miserable screams.
The old master was displeased. “You dirtied my ground.”
Zihan Shen apologized half-heartedly, “Sorry. I’ll be more careful next time.”
The old master said, “If you want to make amends, prepare a room for me at your place.”
Plotting even against his daughter?
Zihan Shen flatly refused, “Not a chance! Watch the old man closely. Don’t let him run over and scare my daughter.”
The old master was exasperated. “Zihan Shen!”
Zihan Shen tugged his ear and strode out.
Shortly after, a team of traditional Chinese medicine experts Zihan Shen invited arrived to personally examine the old master, perform acupuncture, and detoxify him.
“Old man, get better soon. Mr. Shen really cares about you.”
The old master snorted coldly, “Who cares!”
But he was determined to recover quickly, to walk with his own legs toward An’an, his precious great-granddaughter!
Zihan Shen returned to the villa, dispelled the lingering anger, and just as he stepped into the living room, he nearly collided with An’an.
Seeing her almost fall, he swiftly caught the little one.
“Daddy, you’re back. Where’s great-grandpa?”
Zihan Shen gently rubbed her small head. “He has to rest and recover. Have you eaten?”
“Not yet. I was waiting for you.”
An’an shook the necklace in her hand. “Daddy, are we going to see that sister now?”
“All right.”
At the hospital, Zhihua Ouyang was incredulous. “M-my illness can be cured? The hospital will cover all medical expenses?”
