Chapter 17: Splash Healing Potion
“What can I do? What can I do?” Fang Zheng hurriedly flipped through the items in his creative mode inventory. “Healing, healing...”“Golden apple, healing potion, yes, those two!”
Frantically, he tossed the golden apples and healing potions into his hotbar, then ran up to the black shadow and pressed them against its face, trying to feed it like an animal. “Eat quickly! Come on! Why won’t you eat?”
Realizing he couldn’t feed it directly, Fang Zheng immediately began throwing the items repeatedly in front of the shadow.
A floating cluster of pixelated golden apples and healing potions swayed before the shadow. “Pick them up and eat! Eating this should restore your health, come on, eat!”
Fang Zheng was beside himself with anxiety, fluttering around, but the figure remained motionless.
Five minutes passed, and the floating golden apples and healing potions automatically disappeared as they refreshed, yet the damned shadow did not move an inch—not even its eyes twitched.
Even the incessant muttering from his lips had ceased.
Seeing this, Fang Zheng was both anxious and furious.
Once, back in middle school, after class, he had seen a few old men in the village laughing as they carried a foul-smelling sack, buckets, and fishing rods off to fish in the evening.
But the next morning, when Fang Zheng went to school, he saw those same men returning, dirt-smudged and sullen-faced.
He even overheard them grumbling, “Worms won’t bite, red worms won’t bite, distiller’s grains won’t bite, bait won’t bite. Damn thing won’t eat anything, serves you right to starve!”
“Next time, we’ll just drain the water and use nets…”
Back then, Fang Zheng couldn’t understand why the old men were so angry.
Now, looking at this shadow, he finally sympathized with those fishermen.
Desperate, he threw another ten stacks of golden apples, but watching them pass right through the shadow and land at its feet, Fang Zheng paused.
“Could it be that although I can use the iron bucket to gather materials from this world and add items to my inventory, the creatures here can’t pick up Minecraft blocks?”
“Forget it, whether it can pick them up or not, I’ll just smash them on it!” Fang Zheng said, quickly pulling out a splash healing potion from his inventory and placing it in his hotbar.
In Minecraft, the brewing stand allows one to create various potions from different materials.
Potions come in three types: drinkable, splash, and lingering.
Except for the drinkable ones, splash and lingering potions can be thrown.
Splash potions offer instantaneous healing, while lingering potions provide continuous healing.
The splash healing potion can be thrown; upon contact with the ground or a creature, it shatters and heals all creatures within its radius by restoring four health points.
However, it only restores health to living creatures; for undead creatures, it inflicts damage accordingly.
Looking into the dim eyes of the black shadow, Fang Zheng hesitated, pondering, “Is this considered an undead?”
“Well, I’ll try first. If the healing potion doesn’t work, I’ll switch to instant damage potion, which heals undead mobs.”
In Minecraft, healing potions damage undead creatures, while instant damage potions harm living creatures but heal undead ones.
Muttering to himself, Fang Zheng pulled out the bottle and began flinging it.
The splash potion was a red liquid in a slightly crooked glass bottle.
With a sharp shattering sound, red spiraling smoke appeared on the ground beneath the shadow and above its head.
“Uh, I don’t see the red damage effect, so I guess it worked?”
“Throw a few more and see.”
Bang bang bang—the continuous sound of splash healing potions being thrown echoed.
After a while, Fang Zheng stopped.
He approached the black shadow and examined it closely, trying to see if its form had become more solid, but no matter how he looked, there was no noticeable change.
Fang Zheng pondered, “Speaking of which, based on the attack power shown by the Vermilion Bird and White Tiger before, if these cultivators can instantly shatter the durability of Minecraft blocks with their destructive power, then even if healing potions work on them, the effect shouldn’t be very significant, right?”
“After all, the strongest Minecraft monsters, the Ender Dragon has only 200 health, and the Wither just 300.”
“Those cultivators...” Recalling the absurdly massive size of the White Tiger and Vermilion Bird, Fang Zheng fell silent.
“Even if the rules of two different worlds interact to allow them to regain health, if they have health at all, it must be in the billions, trillions, or even higher.”
“If that’s the case, the amount of healing a potion provides is too little. If I want to keep throwing potions to fully restore their health, I’d go mad before finishing.”
“Is this even effective at all?”
Just as Fang Zheng wondered this, he caught the black shadow’s eyes glance sideways at him. “Uh... maybe it is.”
“But doing this manually is too troublesome. I need to automate it.”
If he kept throwing potions by hand, who knew how long it would take? Better to set up an automated dispenser.
He opened his inventory and pulled out dispensers, redstone comparators, repeaters, and redstone dust, then began assembling a redstone pulse circuit nearby.
This redstone pulse circuit, connected to a dispenser, would continuously fire the items stored inside.
He placed a hopper atop the dispenser, and on top of the hopper, a shulker box filled with splash healing potions.
Thus, a simple automatic throwing device, easy enough for a beginner player to build, was complete.
“Uh, if my guess is right and these cultivators from the cultivation world have health in the billions, better add more potions.”
The long-overdue construction began again. Fang Zheng installed dispensers all around the black shadow, connecting them with redstone pulse circuits, then linked one shulker box after another, filled with healing potions, to hoppers feeding the dispensers.
Glancing up at the sky, Fang Zheng thought, “If I can calculate the firing distance correctly, I can even use the sky.”
Eagerly, he built a towering hollow structure made of dispensers over several days.
Each dispenser continuously shot healing potions, which fell like a crimson river through the fixed channel in the middle.
Meanwhile, at the very bottom, where Fang Zheng was too busy building the fully automated healing potion tower to notice, the black shadow wreathed in a swirling blend of black and crimson mist, its crescent-shaped dim eyes gradually began to glow faintly.
This shadow, a remnant of a once-powerful cultivator who had attempted to ascend to immortality, born from lingering regrets, unwillingness, and sorrow, fused with the shattered fragments of a divine weapon from his path of enlightenment, was slowly and steadily growing stronger.
