Chapter 37: Bianjing, the Man-Eater
An underground river flows through the cave from west to east; the current is not particularly rapid, but it is over half a meter deep and about five meters wide.
The "decisive battle" that morning did not last long; from the start of the engagement to the determination of victory, less than an hour had passed. The time that followed was spent in a cycle of pursuit and flight. The Divine Strategy Army spent almost the entire day marching rather than fighting.
However, the moment Black Wing moved, a sharp light flashed in Wu Ying’s eyes, and a subtle, imperceptible smile touched the corners of her mouth. Clearly, even in his stealth state, every movement of Black Wing remained within her control.
Su Jin was usually busy with official duties, but he suddenly noticed that his wife had become even more beautiful after living a life of luxury. He touched his temples and thought to himself, "I am not much older than her, yet compared to Chen Ying, I seem to have aged quite a bit."
These three wine spirits were exceptionally large and possessed immense strength. Luo Lan learned through the wine flagon that consuming these three spirits would be equivalent to eating three fruit of the Ancestral Tree.
The cave was pitch black and eerie; an ordinary person would certainly find it difficult not to feel afraid.
It seemed like an offhand remark, yet in Zhi Yue’s eyes, it was filled with helplessness and sorrow. It was evident that Daoist Wu was a man with a history, and his story was certainly not a happy one.
Jian, unable to contain himself, began to retch the moment he processed the scene before him. He had not enjoyed the refreshments as I had earlier, so beyond the extreme, agonizing spasms of his stomach, he could not even bring up bile or gastric juices.
Qin Ming immediately regretted his actions, for with a sharp "crack," another bolt of lightning struck him.
He was a man of the military department, at the very least a general; otherwise, he could not have led a full legion of soldiers.
Zhao Qi and Lin Zihao flanked Zhou Le, listening to him talk about participating in the variety show. They, too, wanted to join the auditions and debut as stars.
Mu Nian was taken aback. Watching the two of them with their identical expressions, she wondered if this girl had been infected by Xiao Shi.
Inside the crude stronghold on Dog Head Mountain, the main hall was filled with all manner of mountain bandits. Kneeling in the center was a middle-aged man—none other than Li Yi, Xiao Jiu’s brother-in-law.
After sitting for a while at Groff’s house, Andony spoke at length with him about flowers and perfumery. When dusk began to fall, Sui Yun took the reluctant Andony home.
Even so, Yukishiro Akira would not abandon her martial honor to deceive or ambush the young Emperor, nor would she use the advantage of her seniority to strike first and eliminate a rival with such absurdly high potential.
The plan was to discuss the automobile business, but because Song Yang invested less money in Qian Shaofu, the latter felt that Song Yang did not understand the industry.
Sima Chao entered the bathroom. After a series of splashing sounds, he emerged dripping wet.
Although he knew Lady Su was a cautious person, Sima Chao remained worried about his father. He took a few steps up the stairs and was about to knock when he heard his father’s voice from within.
"Hah! A pig like that actually wants to imitate Su Qin and Zhang Yi of the Warring States period, playing at forming alliances!" Quinn slammed his hand against the table and roared in anger. However, his hand had just been injured, and the force of the blow caused the wound to burst open again, yet he seemed not to notice.
Agares floated beside him. The Red Devil pinched his nose in disgust and complained to Arthur.
Bi Fang plunged its head into the boiling noodle soup, slurping up half a bowl in one go; not a single drop of broth stained its gleaming red feathers.
One had to realize that to open a bar here, where the customers were primarily university students, a retro style would attract no interest at all.
"Boom!!!" A violent explosion resounded through the mountain forest, toppling the nearby trees. Dust obscured the center of the blast. After releasing its golden beam, the tiger retreated to a position a hundred meters away from Ao Wen.
Shen Lang did not disappoint the manager; he paid the bill directly, totaling nearly twenty million for three top-of-the-line Continentals.
"Yun Yun, will you surrender, or shall I kill you myself? If you surrender, perhaps I can grant you the rank of imperial consort!" the Emperor of the Chuyun Empire, Chu Che, said with a lewd smile.
At this moment, the Green Bull Force surging through his muscles and fascia was like a bucket of oil thrown onto a raging fire. Zhao Er even had a fleeting hallucination of a green bull charging violently toward him.
The moment Ao Wen heard Mo Bai call him "Father," a smile appeared on his face, turned away from the boy. It was a smile from the heart; in that moment, he finally understood why some men in his previous life were so happy to be fathers. It turned out the feeling of being a father was truly wonderful.
Lin Caiwei recognized this fox-dog. Last time, Jiang Yi had used this very creature to nearly cause her to lose her virtue.
They could not fathom why the Duan family had fled so dejectedly just because of a few words from Shen Lang.
Mu Xiu pushed open the dilapidated door. A sudden "creak" echoed in the silence, startling her; it was merely the sound of the door itself.
She knitted her brows slightly, wondering how she would cover this up if she were discovered.
Marching, marching was even more depressing; the body had to be in a straight line, the legs had to be lifted at an angle of more than forty-five degrees, and it could not be a sloppy kick. It was easy to say but difficult to do.
Xue'er felt her blood surging; the volcano hidden within her body began to erupt. Yet, having taken that step, she could not turn back. "Death is death," she thought, closing her eyes as her foot landed on the Seven-Colored Chaos.
The level of refinement was on par with the Prince Yi Mansion in the Jiulan Kingdom, though the scale was visibly much larger—befitting a clan leader.
"You are simply courting death!" Mu Xiaoxiao’s hand tightened involuntarily around the heavy weapon she held.
"Alright, it’s late. Do you want to rest for a while?" Chen Yitong lay on the edge of the bed and patted the space beside her.
Zhuo Yifan did not say much; he was accustomed to drinking it anyway and did not find anything special about it.
Because the enemy snipers were far away and generally positioned opposite or to the side of where the guards were protecting the formation, I must say that after I fired four shots, two snipers were indeed hit and forced to withdraw from the battle.
"There is actually such a saying?" Rong Mofeng looked at her with a strange expression. She did not spend all day in the kitchen, so how could she know these things? Rong Mofeng could not have known that before Shui Mei transmigrated, she had been burned at her grandmother’s house in the countryside, and her grandmother had told her to touch her ears. It was only later that she learned the reason why.
