Chapter 16: Officially Announcing the Wife Upon Returning to the He Residence
The spoon in Jing Zhuo’s hand paused for a moment. Thick, white porridge spilled out, and he grabbed a napkin to wipe the table.
Song Xi thought he was nervous and tried to comfort him. “I suddenly registered our marriage, and my best friend and her family are a bit uneasy, so they want to see you.”
“You don’t need to be nervous. They’re all very nice people. Besides, you know Zhang Hexing and his father, right? My best friend’s name is Zhang Hening. Maybe you all know each other.”
Jing Zhuo was very familiar with that family.
If it had been just a day earlier, he would have announced his marriage at the He residence without hesitation.
But now...
Things had become somewhat complicated.
Because just yesterday, Song Xi had seriously and sincerely insisted on divorcing him: “I can’t marry Zhang Hexing’s older brother,” she said. “He’s much older, has a fierce temper, we have a huge generation gap, and I want a divorce.”
Jing Zhuo tossed the napkin into the trash and uttered a single word.
“Fine.”
“After dinner, I’ll drive you there.”
Hearing this, Song Xi relaxed.
“Okay.”
After finishing their meal, Jing Zhuo tidied the table, then went to the kitchen to wash the dishes. He took out his phone and made a call.
The kitchen was too far away for Song Xi to hear what he was saying clearly.
She sat on the sofa waiting for him and sent a quick message to Zhang Hening: They were coming to visit!
Zhang Hening replied, “Okay, the whole family is ready!”
Jing Zhuo drove himself, didn’t even turn on the GPS, and smoothly left the neighborhood, heading toward the He residence.
Along the way, Song Xi felt a little nervous and asked him to stop at a mall to buy some gifts and supplements.
After all, it would be impolite to arrive empty-handed.
Just as they were leaving the mall and getting into the car, Zhang Hening’s call came through.
“Xi Bao, I’m really sorry, my grandfather suddenly fell ill and passed out. We have to rush to the hospital right away. We can’t meet your husband today!”
Her grandfather was ill?
Song Xi’s heart tightened. Saving lives was the priority. She quickly said, “Don’t worry, you guys go to the hospital first. Don’t waste any time.”
“Okay, got it!”
Zhang Hening hurriedly hung up, her voice sounding very anxious.
Song Xi put down her phone, feeling a little embarrassed. “Um, Zhang Hening’s grandfather suddenly got sick. They’ve all gone to the hospital. We don’t need to go to the He residence today.”
Jing Zhuo kept his hands on the wheel, didn’t stop the car, and continued toward the He residence.
“It’s fine. Since there’s nothing this morning, I can help you move your things.”
Song Xi thought for a moment and agreed.
She had taken the morning off anyway, so it was a good opportunity to move her luggage out.
The car stopped outside. Song Xi got out first, and Jing Zhuo went to the trunk to grab the gifts.
Outside the door, Aunt Wang was tending to the vegetable garden. From a distance, she only saw Song Xi’s figure.
“Miss Xi, you’re back!”
Song Xi called out from afar, “Aunt Wang, I’m just here to pick up some luggage and then I’ll leave. You keep busy!”
“All right.”
Song Xi led Jing Zhuo inside, then took a pair of guest slippers from the shoe cabinet and handed them to him.
“Wait a moment in the living room. I’ll go upstairs to pack my clothes. It won’t take long.”
This was someone else’s home. Song Xi was only staying temporarily herself, so it wasn’t appropriate to have Jing Zhuo go upstairs.
Jing Zhuo nodded. “Okay.”
Watching her go upstairs, Jing Zhuo placed the gifts on the coffee table and sat cross-legged on the sofa.
The big golden retriever upstairs heard the noise and, seeing Jing Zhuo had returned, excitedly ran downstairs and jumped into his arms, wagging its tail like a propeller.
When Aunt Wang entered, she saw the man on the sofa—noble and indifferent—training the dog.
“Sir, why have you come back?”
