Huang Sheng felt a surge of indignation as he heard Shen Yanzhi’s description of him. “If President Shen wants to fire me, just say so. Why humiliate me like this?”

Upon hearing this, Shen Yanzhi’s expression softened into one of disbelief, as if asking, How could you think that way? Then he glanced at Shen Yuanzhong and said, “That’s not something I said.”

The implication was clear: this came from your own elder.

Huang Sheng stared at Shen Yuanzhong in shock.

Shen Yuanzhong’s face darkened. Back when Huang Sheng was unemployed and came to him for help, he couldn’t refuse and had called Shen Yanzhi to arrange a job for him.

When asking for a favor, Shen Yuanzhong naturally spoke humbly.

He remembered saying, “This is my maternal nephew. He was an executive at another company before. He’s honest and capable, just a bit too straightforward, which is why his former colleagues ostracized him. See if there’s a vacancy and give him a position.”

How did that turn into “useless” in Shen Yanzhi’s mouth?

But now was not the time to argue over this. The real issue was that Shen Yanzhi had silently stripped Huang Sheng of his position!

Shen Yuanzhong’s expression was stern. “Why did you remove Huang Sheng from his post?”

“Exactly. President Shen, I’ve only been with Shen Group for nine months, but I’ve overseen this project the entire time. I worked hard early on, cautious and dedicated in my role. If not for merit, at least I deserve credit for my effort. How can you dismiss me without even a reason? Is it just because I was recommended by the third uncle?” Huang Sheng protested bitterly.

At his last words, both Shen Yuanzhong and Shen Hongguo’s faces darkened.

Clearly, Shen Yuanzhong and Huang Sheng shared the same suspicion—that Shen Yanzhi’s dismissal of Huang Sheng was a move against him.

Shen Hongguo thought differently. If Shen Yanzhi could quietly fire someone recommended by Shen Yuanzhong today, tomorrow he could do the same to those Shen Hongguo put in place.

The Shen Group was vast, and Shen Hongguo had placed many people of his own inside. If Shen Yanzhi dared to dismiss his people without a word, it would be a public slap in the face.

Shen Hongguo immediately spoke up, “Nephew, you’ve gone too far with this.”

Shen Yanzhi looked at the three men, a faint, mocking smile flickering across his usually cold face. “Worked hard? Cautious and dedicated? The work’s poor, yet you string together idioms like a recital.”

He was too indifferent to argue further and pulled a stack of documents from his desk, tossing them out. “Tell me, what is this?”

Huang Sheng, who had been indignantly defending himself, suddenly felt a foreboding chill upon seeing the documents.

Shen Yuanzhong also eyed the papers warily.

He knew his unscrupulous nephew never went into battle unprepared.

“Give them here,” Shen Hongguo ordered his bodyguard.

Soon, the files were in Shen Hongguo’s hands.

After flipping through only a few pages, Shen Hongguo furrowed his brows deeply and threw the documents to Shen Yuanzhong, anger barely concealed in his voice, “So much for ‘no merit but effort!’ Third brother, look at this yourself!”

Shen Yuanzhong was startled by his elder brother’s fury.

He glanced at Huang Sheng, silently blaming him for not cleaning up the mess properly.

The project Huang Sheng had overseen was one he had pushed hard to get him into, and naturally, he had profited through Huang Sheng’s work.

He had previously warned Huang Sheng to wrap things up cleanly, so as not to get caught.

But now, it was obvious Shen Yanzhi had caught him red-handed.

As Shen Yuanzhong bent over the documents, pondering how to help Huang Sheng get through this, his face darkened instantly upon reading the contents.

“What kind of nonsense is this? Who told you to abuse your power for rampant profiteering!” Shen Sanshu, who had been contemplating how to save him just a moment ago, now angrily slammed the documents onto Huang Sheng.

It turned out Huang Sheng had embezzled a staggering twelve million yuan.

Yet he told them he could only squeeze out two million.

In the end, he handed over only one million eight hundred thousand.

“Twelve million, Huang Sheng, I really underestimated you,” Shen Yuanzhong said, eyes cold and sinister.

Huang Sheng’s face went pale. He immediately knelt before Shen Yuanzhong. “Third, third uncle, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

He never expected that his deeply hidden secret had long been uncovered by Shen Yanzhi! Moreover, Shen Yanzhi had shown no sign of this during his dismissal!

He had always thought Shen Yanzhi was unaware of his underhanded dealings; otherwise, he wouldn’t have called Shen Yuanzhong and the elders to defend him today!

It was like lifting a stone only to drop it on his own foot.

Huang Sheng’s heart was filled with regret.

Seated at the head of the room, Shen Yanzhi observed everything calmly and spoke softly, “So Third Uncle didn’t know about this? I thought this honest maternal nephew of yours was so brazen because he had your backing…”

Shen Yuanzhong’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly distanced himself from Huang Sheng. “Nephew! You can’t say whatever you want! I had no knowledge of what he did!”

“I see,” Shen Yanzhi replied. “I originally thought the money went into your pockets, Third Uncle. Since we’re family, I let it slide. But now…”

His tone suddenly shifted as he looked toward Chen Jin. “Assistant Chen, call the police.”
