Chapter 20: Sleeping Together

Upon hearing Shen Yanzhi’s words, Chi Yu’s first thought was that she was hallucinating. His reaction was completely different from what she had imagined—it was almost excessively friendly. After all, who could so quickly and calmly accept the existence of an unknown entity living inside their mobile phone?

Chi Yu looked up at Shen Yanzhi, poking her head out cautiously. "You aren't planning to send me off for dissection or sell me for research, are you?"

Dissection? Research? Shen Yanzhi chuckled inwardly. This little sprite actually knew quite a bit; no wonder she had been so guarded before.

"I won't," Shen Yanzhi promised. "As long as you do not do anything to harm me or jeopardize my interests, I will not harm you either."

"I absolutely wouldn't!" Chi Yu hurriedly expressed her loyalty. "We are on the same side! Not only will I not hurt you, I will protect you! Just like I did tonight! If I discover any potential dangers in the future, I will tell you immediately!"

The string of exclamation marks was enough to show how pure and firm her emotions were at that moment.

"Very well. From now on, you are responsible for monitoring my potential safety, and I will provide you with services like charging and housing," Shen Yanzhi agreed.

Chi Yu was overjoyed, feeling that her decision to warn Shen Yanzhi had truly been the right move. In fact, she had harbored some selfish motives when she decided to send that anonymous text. Although she had been hiding well inside Shen Yanzhi’s phone for these past few days, she knew she couldn’t keep living like this forever.

She was a human being, and she wanted to live openly and honestly. More importantly, she needed to make Chen Jiazhi pay the price she deserved. Chi Yu secretly thought to herself that she had made the right gamble.

"So, can I use the phone now?" she asked tentatively, seeking Shen Yanzhi’s permission.

Shen Yanzhi nodded slightly and made a gentlemanly gesture toward her. "Feel free."

Seeing his friendly and relaxed attitude, Chi Yu did not stand on ceremony. She immediately unlocked the screen and opened the browser. As she began to type, she suddenly remembered something. She glanced at Shen Yanzhi, who was sitting on the sofa still watching the phone, and asked politely, "May I download some apps on your phone? I’m learning how to code, and I’d like to download some study software related to programming."

"You may."

With his response, Chi Yu happily entered the app store and downloaded all the study software she had been eyeing. While these could be accessed via web browsers, dedicated apps were far more convenient. Furthermore, many books required a registered account to pay for access. Chi Yu snuck a peek at the refined man before her; since she had already downloaded the apps, could payment be far behind?

As expected, when Chi Yu brought it up, Shen Yanzhi did not hesitate to agree. He even proactively transferred one million into her account, calling it a reward for helping him eliminate the hidden threat earlier that evening. He told her she could spend it however she liked.

To someone with Shen Yanzhi’s wealth, one million was merely a drop in the ocean, but for Chi Yu, it was an absolute windfall! She hadn't forgotten that before Chen Jiazhi pushed her into the sea, the total balance across her Alipay, WeChat, and bank accounts had been a mere 3,369.82 yuan.

One million—it was a figure the former Chi Yu wouldn't have even dared to imagine. Shen Yanzhi was truly a fantastic boss; he was incredibly generous!

Chi Yu rubbed against the pile of shimmering data and instantly stepped into her new role. "Don't worry, Boss! I will definitely work hard from now on!"

From this day forward, she would be Shen Yanzhi’s most loyal phone employee!

Shen Yanzhi found this phone sprite not only smart and studious but also remarkably lively and amusing. Of course... she also seemed a bit naive and easy to fool.

He left the phone on the table for Chi Yu to play with as she pleased while he went to change and head to the gym for a workout. When he returned, refreshed after a shower, he sat on the sofa to watch television. The phone lay on the cushion beside him, its screen glowing as she busied herself with her studies. The two of them, one human and one entity, left each other in peace.

By the time the hour grew late and it was nearing Shen Yanzhi’s bedtime, Chi Yu gave two quick pings to catch his attention. As he looked over, she quickly typed:

"May I go to bed now too?"
