Chapter 45: The Pain, Too Much to Bear
After Jiang Zi left, Jiang Yue looked at her retreating figure and shook her head with a sigh.
"This girl has truly been sheltered far too much since childhood, to the point where she believes whatever anyone tells her. I honestly have no idea how her personality allows her to survive in the entertainment industry."
As Cheng Jun opened the car door for Jiang Yue, he said with a chuckle, "Perhaps sincerity is the ultimate unbeatable weapon after all. Besides, doesn't she have you, a wonderful older sister?"
Jiang Yue shook her head helplessly and got into the car alongside Cheng Jun.
Once inside, Cheng Jun asked, "Yueyue, have you made the arrangements for trying on the wedding dress?"
"I have. They sent me a few photos this morning, and they looked quite nice. We're going to the shop now to try them on in person."
"Alright, don't rush. Take your time trying them on, and make sure you're completely satisfied before deciding."
Jiang Yue nodded with a smile, though she still wore a preoccupied look.
Noticing this, Cheng Jun immediately asked, "What's wrong? Are you still thinking about what Jiang Zi said?"
Frowning deeply, Jiang Yue replied, "Brother Cheng, Jiang Zi just came and told me that a man went to see Liu Qing last night, and she claims it was arranged by you."
"Surely not?"
Hearing Jiang Yue ask this, I was left completely speechless.
Jiang Yue, do you even have a brain?
Usually, you seem so smart, moving through the business world like a fish in water.
How can you be so foolish right now?
Yet, in her eyes, it was simply impossible for Cheng Jun to do such a thing, which was why she had so few doubts.
I, however, grew anxious, because with her bringing this up, Cheng Jun would naturally realize what had happened.
From here on, he would likely target Liu Qing even more relentlessly.
Yet, I could do nothing at all, forced to just stand by and watch it all unfold.
After Jiang Yue finished speaking, Cheng Jun was clearly startled, the expression on his face shifting slightly.
However, he quickly recovered and furrowed his brow. "What on earth is going on? Who is Liu Qing?"
"Liu Qing is the woman who was sitting off to the side at the police station that day."
"Oh! I don't even know her. Why would I send someone after her?"
I genuinely believe Cheng Jun has a rare talent for acting; he tells lies without missing a beat.
Without even a blush or a quickened heartbeat, he certainly deserves an Oscar.
Naturally, Jiang Yue didn't press further. She smiled and said, "I knew it wasn't you. This is just sheer nonsense from Liu Qing; she's simply trying to drive a wedge between us."
"Heh, does she really take me for such a fool? Still, going on like this is truly annoying. We need to find a way to deal with her once and for all."
Cheng Jun immediately asked, "Do you need me to do anything?"
Jiang Yue shook her head. "No need. I have plenty of ways to handle her."
Cheng Jun smiled faintly and said no more.
How I hated this!
This Jiang Yue was completely brainless.
Yet, from her perspective, it was indeed impossible for her to believe Liu Qing's one-sided account.
Her own cleverness had become her undoing; there would come a day when she would weep bitter tears.
My only concern was for Liu Qing.
Having offended both Cheng Jun and Jiang Yue at once, and with Jiang Yue's vast array of tactics,
I shuddered to think what might lie ahead for Liu Qing...
Yet, I truly could do nothing, forced simply to watch everything unfold before my eyes.
The pain was agonizing, truly agonizing.
...
The two of them arrived at the bridal boutique together, and Cheng Jun accompanied Jiang Yue the entire time as she selected her dream wedding dress.
Despite having been married to Jiang Yue for so many years, I had never once seen her in a wedding dress.
I had longed for it, of course, but I never dared to bring it up, knowing she would never agree to wear it for me.
Inside the boutique, an array of wedding gowns in every conceivable style dazzled the eyes.
Each piece was exquisitely crafted, featuring both Western and Chinese designs.
After browsing through a vast selection, Jiang Yue finally chose a Western-style gown with an air of extraordinary elegance.
The cascading layers of tulle floated as lightly as mist, each tier seemingly holding a gentle dream within its folds.
The sheer fabric was dotted with countless fragments of crushed diamonds, sparkling brilliantly under the lights like stars scattered across the night sky.
Though I hadn't yet seen Jiang Yue wear the dress, I could already imagine how breathtaking she would look in it.
Yet, no matter how stunning she appeared, in my eyes at that moment, she was utterly repulsive.
Her soul was foul, and the person herself was foul.
No matter how exquisitely she dressed or how gorgeous her attire, she was nothing more than an empty shell.
After making her choice, Jiang Yue went off to the fitting room with the sales assistant to change.
While waiting outside, Cheng Jun took out his phone and appeared to be messaging someone.
I quickly leaned over to take a look.
I saw that he had typed out a message which read:
"Last night's affair was botched. What on earth were you doing? You couldn't even handle a tiny task like that?"
"I'm telling you, Li Feng, if you drag me down with you, I'll make sure you don't even know what hit you."
A moment later, a reply came through.
"Director Cheng, we were just about to succeed, but who could have expected some woman to suddenly barge in and bash me over the head with a blunt object? Liu Qing even stabbed my thigh with a scissors. I'm still bedridden right now."
Cheng Jun: What use are you to me?
Li Feng: Director Cheng, please give me one more chance. Once I recover a little, I'll go after her again.
Cheng Jun: Go after her my foot! Do you think she's just sitting there waiting for you?
Before Li Feng could reply, Cheng Jun sent another message:
"Listen to me, find her by whatever means necessary, tie her up, and then call me."
Li Feng replied: "Director Cheng, you're really putting me in an impossible position here. Kidnapping is a felony!"
Cheng Jun: "Scared? Well, that's not my concern; weigh the risks yourself! Don't forget, I still hold your weaknesses in my hands."
After a short pause, Li Feng finally replied: "Don't worry, Director Cheng, I'll try again."
At that moment, Jiang Yue emerged from the fitting room.
Cheng Jun immediately put away his phone and looked up at her.
She truly looked breathtaking!
She resembled a pure white lily blooming under the moonlight.
The wedding gown was as pure as snow, molding perfectly to Jiang Yue's graceful figure as if it were a second skin tailored exclusively for her.
The neckline of the dress was exquisitely designed, perfectly displaying her elegant collarbones and slender neck.
From the waist down, the cascading layers of the skirt resembled dreamy clouds, swaying gently with her every subtle movement.
Cheng Jun was utterly transfixed, his gaze seemingly glued to her.
This was a scene I had once dreamed of, yet in my dreams, Jiang Yue's face had always been blurred.
Countless times, I had imagined how stunning she would look in a wedding gown.
And now, that wish had finally been fulfilled.
Only, experiencing her wearing a wedding dress in this manner carried a rather ironic twist.
It stirred no excitement within me; my heart held only hatred and disgust toward her.
I loathed this woman. No matter how flawless her appearance, she remained profoundly ugly!
Cheng Jun walked toward her, looking her up and down from head to toe.
Facing him, Jiang Yue smiled and asked, "Well? How does it look?"
"Magnificent, absolutely stunning! Yueyue, you look like a true princess."
The smile on Jiang Yue's face was almost too wide to contain.
She must have been deeply moved, right?
About to marry the man she had always adored as her unattainable ideal, she must have been overjoyed.
Yet, Jiang Yue, you probably never imagined—
The man you cherish above all others has been using you the entire time.
Soon, you will come to understand exactly how I felt all these years.
Don't rush; the real show has only just begun.
