After Jiang Yue signed the corpse identification form, she left the police station. On the way home, she sat silently in the car. Once home, she called Cheng Jun.

“Jun, are you asleep?”

“Hmm, already in bed. What’s up, Yueyue?”

“Chu Jianghe is really dead.”

“No way. What happened?” Cheng Jun’s previously groggy voice suddenly sharpened. That scoundrel was such a convincing actor; if I hadn’t heard what he said last night, I might even have believed he was shocked.

“The police said it was a car accident, but not accidental—someone caused it.”

“Caused? You mean someone deliberately killed him?”

“Yeah, that’s what the police told me.”

“No way. Did he make enemies?”

“He didn’t have a single friend, how could he have enemies? I found it hard to believe, but the police insist there are many suspicious points.”

Cheng Jun fell silent for a moment before cautiously asking, “Have the police figured it all out yet?”

“Not yet. They said the car involved was a cloned vehicle and there’s no surveillance at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.”

“Maybe it was just an accident, and the driver, realizing what happened, fled?”

He was trying to divert the topic, clearly scared, afraid the investigation might turn on him.

Jiang Yue said coldly, “The police told me that too, but they said it’s too early to jump to conclusions.”

“So what now? Just leave the body there until they find the killer, then Chu Jianghe can finally be laid to rest?”

That scumbag actually cared about my corpse.

Of course, I knew he said that only to cover his tracks while comforting me—two birds with one stone.

Jiang Yue replied, “I’ve already signed the confirmation. The cremation is scheduled for tomorrow.”

“Oh, alright. I’ll go with you then.”

“Okay, go to sleep now. Good night.”

“You too, don’t overthink it. If you’re scared, I can come over now and keep you company.”

Finally, Jiang Yue smiled. “It’s fine, I’m not scared. What’s there to be afraid of? He’s dead—he was pathetic in life, and now he’s just a pathetic ghost.”

Jiang Yue, you win!

Really, hearing her say that again, I wasn’t angry at all—I was numb.

My death still meant nothing to her; she simply didn’t care.

That night, she slept soundly, waking up refreshed as if she hadn’t lost a husband. She went about her morning routine as usual, putting on beautiful makeup and picking out a lovely long dress. Then, sensing something was off, she changed into a black dress instead.

By then, Cheng Jun had already arrived and was waiting outside her home. After Jiang Yue got in, the two headed straight to the crematorium.

Jiang Yue didn’t look like someone attending a funeral. On the way, she laughed and chatted with Cheng Jun, even planning to go to the civil affairs bureau after the cremation to handle the paperwork for dissolving my marriage.

My bones were hardly cold—my seventh day hadn’t even passed—and they were already discussing my marriage.

It was laughable. What kind of thing had I fallen in love with these past seven years?

I wanted to rush forward and tear those two apart. They deserved to die.

At the crematorium, I saw Liu Qing.

She sat huddled in a corner, looking like she hadn’t slept for days, her face pale and drained of color.

Her eyes were swollen and red. Seeing her like that, I could no longer hold back.

Liu Qing had warned me before, saying her feminine intuition told her Jiang Yue didn’t love me, urging me to reconsider.

But back then, blinded by love, I had recklessly thrown myself into it.

Now, I was filled with regret.

But it was too late.

At that moment, I realized who truly mattered most in my life.

It was her—Liu Qing.

We had been classmates since elementary school. She excelled academically; I did not. But she recognized my talent for drawing, bought me art supplies, and introduced me to the school’s art teacher.

Half of my chance to enter Qingcheng Academy of Fine Arts was thanks to Liu Qing.

College was the happiest time of my life.

I had many like-minded classmates. We went on sketching trips and shared creative experiences.

No matter what, Liu Qing was always by my side.

In college, I also explored new things and developed an interest in oil painting.

My mentor praised me as the Morrison of our country.

Who was Morrison?

One of Britain’s finest landscape painters. My mentor’s compliment was the highest I ever received.

After graduating, I smoothly entered the country’s top visual communication design firm, earning eight thousand a month during my internship.

My future was promising.

I had even planned to study abroad, to further pursue art.

I dreamed of holding exhibitions and making a fortune.

But all of that was shattered the afternoon I unexpectedly saved Jiang Yue from drowning.

Not to mention she was beautiful—I admit she was very beautiful—but as an artist, I wasn’t short of beautiful women.

Yet I was captivated the moment I met her, moved by her devotion to love.

From then on, I was entranced, as if poisoned, unable to stop.

But she destroyed it all—my entire life was ruined by her.

Seeing Liu Qing so heartbroken now, I longed to hold her. But I was nothing more than a ghost.

Jiang Yue showed no expression when she saw Liu Qing. She didn’t speak, merely walked past and entered the crematorium.

Liu Qing noticed her too, and her once dim eyes instantly hardened.

Jiang Yue remained calm, expressionless, signing the cremation consent form.

While waiting for the body to be taken to the furnace, she finally approached Liu Qing.

She took a stack of bills from her bag and said, “Chu Jianghe is dead. I know you were close to him. Handle his funeral arrangements.”

Liu Qing glared at Jiang Yue, her voice cold: “Get lost! I’ll take care of his funeral. Take your money and stay far away!”

The proud Miss Jiang couldn’t stand to hear that.

Her eyes reddened instantly. “Watch your foul mouth! I didn’t argue with you at the police station last time, you little brat—don’t get arrogant!”

Liu Qing no longer showed fear. Locking eyes with Jiang Yue, she hissed, “Jiang Yue, do you really think money lets you do whatever you want? If you didn’t love Chu Jianghe, why torture him? After all these years, do you have no feelings at all?”

Jiang Yue remained expressionless, like a cold-blooded creature.

“I don’t want to talk to you about this, and it’s none of your business.”

Liu Qing lost control and shouted, “Get lost! Take your money and get out!”

No one had ever told this heiress to “get lost” before, and it immediately furrowed her brow.

Jiang Yue pointed at Liu Qing, threatening, “Say ‘get lost’ again, and I’ll make sure you have nowhere to cry.”

“Get lost!” Liu Qing wasn’t afraid at all, her eyes deadly.

Jiang Yue’s face turned green with anger. She sneered coldly, “Fine, Liu, remember this!”
