Chapter 25: Six-Flavor Rehmannia Pills, stay safe!
Qingzhou City, Linjiang Mansion, Villa No. 13.
Murong Shan had just stepped into the villa and had barely caught his breath when a middle-aged woman, elegantly dressed and dripping with jewelry, hurried over to greet him. Her expression was anxious as she glanced toward the door.
"Where is our daughter? Where is Xiaoxue? I was only gone for a moment to get a spa treatment, how did this happen?"
Murong Shan looked at Ye Rong with utter disdain and snapped, "You still have the nerve to ask? Our daughter fainted, and you were busy with your spa treatment. I couldn't even reach you on the phone. If something truly happened to her, I don't know how you’d even begin to cry!"
Hearing this, Ye Rong felt a pang of guilt. She pouted, looking aggrieved, and whined, "Oh, honey, you know how it is. When I’m at the spa, I hate being disturbed! How was I supposed to know Xiaoxue was in trouble? If I had known, I wouldn’t have stayed for the treatment; I would have gone straight to her! By the way, where is she? Didn't you say she was fine?"
Murong Shan rolled his eyes at his scatterbrained wife and sighed helplessly. "Xiaoxue won't be coming back tonight."
"What?" Ye Rong was stunned. "Honey, don't scare me! Xiaoxue, she—waaaaaah!"
Seeing Ye Rong wailing as if at a funeral, Murong Shan felt a vein throb in his forehead. "You foolish woman, what are you doing? Mourning? Xiaoxue is staying out tonight! What are you thinking?"
Ye Rong let out a roar and grabbed Murong Shan by the ear. "Murong Shan! Are you trying to kill me? Can you not leave your sentences hanging like that? You scared the life out of me!"
"Ouch, ouch, let go! People are watching!" Murong Shan wailed.
Ye Rong glanced around and saw several bodyguards suppressing their laughter. Feeling embarrassed, she quickly let go and ordered, "Go take a break, all of you!"
The bodyguards exchanged glances and retreated outside.
"Honey, what exactly is going on?"
Murong Shan sighed and explained his daughter's situation in detail. By the end of it, Ye Rong was speechless. After a long pause, she complained, "Are you saying Xiaoxue is living with that guy named Jiang Cheng? This is absurd! You know very well that Young Master Huang Cheng-ye of the Huang family is interested in our Xiaoxue, and you’ve been planning a marriage alliance. If she’s living with this Jiang Cheng, what will the Huang family think? You’ve lost your mind!"
Murong Shan’s brows knitted together. "You foolish woman, is the Huang family’s face more important than our daughter’s health? If Xiaoxue keeps falling into these comas, you can go live with the Huang family yourself!"
Ye Rong wanted to retort, but seeing her husband’s anger, she opened her mouth and stayed silent. It was true—compared to their daughter, the Huang family was nothing. If something happened to her, there wouldn't even be time to cry.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to Ye Rong. She asked suspiciously, "But, honey, why do I feel like there’s something strange about this Jiang Cheng? He’s just a kid in his early twenties; how could he possibly know anything about Qi-reading? And that 'old Taoist' he mentioned—don't you think he’s just making things up? Could it be that this Jiang Cheng is the one who caused Xiaoxue’s mysterious illness?"
Murong Shan waved his hand. "No. I had him investigated. Jiang Cheng’s background is very simple; he only has a younger sister left. Today was their first meeting; they had no prior contact. Besides, if he were the culprit, wouldn't he use this opportunity to demand a fortune? I tried to test him with money, but he refused it and walked away. If anything, it’s our daughter who is shamelessly following him!"
"But our daughter is living with a stranger. Aren't you worried she'll be taken advantage of?" Ye Rong asked, still anxious.
"You know our daughter. She’s the only one who bullies others; no one would dare bully her. Besides, I sent Lin Zhou and Wang Hao to follow her, so nothing will happen."
...
On the other side, Murong Xue pulled the pickup truck, swaying, into an old-fashioned residential complex and stopped in front of an entrance.
As she stepped out, her expression was as unpleasant as overnight tea. She complained, "Jiang Cheng, you've made millions, couldn't you at least buy a decent car? This piece of junk requires me to work the clutch, and my heels are raw! And the soundproofing—it’s as noisy as a tractor!"
Jiang Cheng retorted, "Take it or leave it. You’re the one who insisted on coming home with me; I didn't beg you. Besides, if I hadn't been drinking, I wouldn't let you touch my precious car!"
"Precious car? You jerk, this scrap heap isn't even good enough for our family’s maid to go grocery shopping in!" Murong Xue said with disdain.
"If you don't like it, go home!"
"You! You jerk, couldn't you have hired a designated driver?"
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. "You just called it a scrap heap—wouldn't a driver cry if they had to sit in this?"
"You!"
Murong Xue was so angry her chest heaved. She felt as if Jiang Cheng had been sent by the heavens specifically to torment her. After arguing for so long, she hadn't gained the upper hand once.
Shen Sinin watched the two bickering, saying nothing, just giggling with her eyes curved into crescents. She felt that being with Murong Xue and Jiang Cheng was so much fun. Was this what falling in love felt like?
Before long, the three arrived at the fourth floor. Just as Jiang Cheng unlocked the door, a beautiful woman wrapped in a bath towel appeared. It was Jiang Cheng’s tenant, Wen Yao.
Wen Yao’s hair was dripping wet, with shimmering droplets about to fall. Her face was flushed, and her fair, straight legs, along with the glimpses of snow-white skin, were lethal in their allure.
Jiang Cheng felt his blood boil.
"Orange, you're back? Oh? Who are they?" Wen Yao gave a playful smile, noticing the two beauties behind Jiang Cheng, and flashed a meaningful grin. "Not bad, Little Orange! Living it up, aren't we? Bringing two back at once? Can your kidneys handle it? Hehehe..."
Jiang Cheng felt instantly awkward. "Ahem! Wen Yao, don't talk nonsense, they are..."
Before Jiang Cheng could explain, Murong Xue interrupted him. She walked up to Wen Yao with great poise, extended her delicate hand, and smiled gently. "Hello, I’m Murong Xue. I’ll be living with Jiang Cheng from now on! Please take care of me."
Shen Sinin also extended her hand. "Hello, I’m Shen Sinin. It’s nice to meet you!"
Wen Yao tilted her head, confused. "What’s going on? Orange, are they both your girlfriends? Did you break up with Song Yi?"
Jiang Cheng nearly choked. "Ahem, ahem! Wen Yao, stop talking nonsense. They... well! How to put it? This one, Murong Xue, is a tag-along; just act like she doesn't exist. This cute girl is her best friend, and she’s a friend of mine."
Murong Xue’s face turned black. "Jiang Cheng, what do you mean? What do you mean by 'tag-along'?"
Jiang Cheng pouted. "Isn't that what you are?"
"I’m Wen Yao, an actress, a future star! I’m just Jiang Cheng’s tenant. I’m going to sleep, you guys do whatever, hehehe!" Seeing the scene, Wen Yao gave a knowing look and chuckled as she walked toward her room. "Oh, right, Orange—your Liuwei Dihuang pills! Stay safe!" She tossed a small medicine bottle to him with a giggle.
Jiang Cheng stared at the bottle labeled "Liuwei Dihuang Pills" in his hand, a dark line forming on his forehead. What was all this? Hey! Wen Yao, explain yourself! What do you mean 'stay safe'? I don't understand!
