Chapter 40: Is This a Weight-Loss Pill or an Elixir?

At 7:30 PM, Chen Xi began the pre-broadcast warm-up.

To ensure a successful livestream, Yang Chen had specifically instructed their operations team to purchase 100,000 yuan worth of promotional traffic. Spending money proved effective, as in less than half an hour, the livestream had over 100,000 concurrent viewers.

However, the comment section remained hostile.

"Where is Fatty Di? Come out and face the roasting!"

"I just want to hear what Fatty Di has to say for herself. Was she held hostage into becoming the spokesperson for Sihai?"

"Fatty Di, come out! Fatty Di, come out! Fatty Di, come out..."

...

Chen Xi kept the situation under control, finally holding out until 8:00 PM.

Fatty Di walked into the frame with a smile, waving to greet the audience in the livestream.

The comments section flooded:

"Fatty Di, are you being threatened? If you’re being threatened, blink your eyes."

"I really can't fathom why you would choose this moment to be a spokesperson for Sihai Group’s weight-loss pills. If they forced you, just say it directly; we Alices will definitely seek justice for you."

"Can you show some backbone and not let the Alices down?"

"Truth be told, maybe it's because of the slimming filter, but Fatty Di really does look much thinner now. Could this weight-loss pill actually be effective?"

...

Ignoring the comments, Chen Xi and Fatty Di followed the script Yang Chen had written for the broadcast.

Chen Xi smiled and asked, "Ms. Di, you have already used our Sihai Slimming Pills. Could you share your experience and the results with us?"

Fatty Di happily spun around in front of the camera and addressed the viewers: "Friends who know me can see the change in my physique. We aren't using any slimming filters; what you see is what I look like. I’ve uploaded video logs to my personal account, and I guarantee they are authentic. I maintained my normal diet and work routine, and in just seven days, I went from 115 jin to 95 jin. The results are truly remarkable."

The comments flooded:

"Nonsense, how could the results be that good?"

"She must have been starving herself; there’s no other way to get results like that. Those video logs are easy to fake—if you want, I could film one showing I lost 30 jin in a day."

"So disappointing. Just to make some dirty money, she's lying through her teeth."

...

Chen Xi asked again, "Ms. Di, do you find anything special about our Sihai Slimming Pills?"

Fatty Di replied with a smile, "The mechanism of this weight-loss pill is to boost the metabolic capacity of the liver and gastrointestinal tract, allowing for scientific, healthy, and safe weight loss."

The comments flooded:

"What nonsense. There are only two main mechanisms for weight-loss drugs: appetite suppression or absorption inhibition. There’s no other mechanism. What is this 'boosting metabolism' stuff?"

"I’m a doctor specializing in obesity, and I can tell everyone very responsibly: boosting metabolism cannot possibly produce such significant weight-loss results. Either she is lying, or she has other auxiliary methods for losing weight. It is absolutely impossible to lose 20 jin in 7 days just by taking this pill."

"Didn't expect that, did you? There's a professional doctor in the chat, caught red-handed, huh?"

...

At this moment, Li Chenghao, a researcher at Dragon Kingdom Pharmaceutical Group, was watching the stream while eating dinner. Upon hearing Fatty Di claim that the Sihai Slimming Pills relied on metabolic enhancement to help her lose 20 jin in seven days without dieting, he couldn't help but laugh.

He couldn't resist typing a comment: "Keep bluffing. If Sihai Health could develop a pill that works that well just by boosting metabolism, they wouldn't be 3 trillion in debt."

Just then, the research team leader, Dr. Huang Jianjun, walked over.

"Xiao Li, what are you laughing at? Hurry up and eat; we have to work overtime later," Huang Jianjun said with a smile.

Li Chenghao pointed at his phone and said, "Sihai Health developed a weight-loss pill and is selling it on a livestream. They even got the celebrity Di Li as a spokesperson. Di Li is telling over 100,000 viewers that this pill helped her lose 20 jin in seven days by boosting metabolism, all while eating and living normally—no dieting, no other treatments. Haha... everyone in the chat is roasting her. She’s such a scam artist."

Huang Jianjun leaned over to take a look, then chuckled. "These celebrities and influencers will say anything to make money. I heard Sihai Group got a new chairman. Is this the 'rescue plan' the new chairman came up with?"

"Haha... then Sihai Group is finished, adding insult to injury. Once consumers expose that the pills are useless or even have side effects, they’ll have to shut down just like the Jiang Special Pharmaceutical Factory," Li Chenghao scoffed.

Huang Jianjun laughed out loud as well, then added, "Alright, stop wasting time watching this trash. Finish eating and get back to work."

The livestream continued.

Chen Xi asked again, "So, did the Sihai Slimming Pills bring any other surprises to Ms. Di?"

Fatty Di said excitedly, "Yes, yes, yes! It was such a surprise—people might not believe me when I say it."

"Is that so? What kind of surprise? Please share it with us," Chen Xi said with a smile.

Fatty Di looked thrilled. "I discovered that the Sihai Slimming Pills don't just help with weight loss; they can also treat mild fatty liver. My weight was over the limit, and I had mild fatty liver. Because a foreign weight-loss pill was recently exposed for having serious side effects, I was worried about the Sihai pills, so I went to the People’s Hospital today for a comprehensive check-up. And guess what? My mild fatty liver is gone, and my liver is now completely healthy."

The comments flooded:

"F*ck! I can't take it anymore. How can she lie with such a straight face?"

"These celebrities and influencers have no bottom line when it comes to peddling goods. You’d be better off selling fake liquor or fake bird's nest; at least that wouldn't hurt people. Claiming a weight-loss pill treats fatty liver—isn't that just pure harm? Making money isn't shameful, but lying and hurting people is shameful—extremely shameful!"

"Damn! If the researchers at Sihai Health really have this kind of talent, they deserve the Nobel Prize in Medicine this year. Ask them if they dare to apply for it!"

...

Chen Xi looked pleasantly surprised. "Really? I didn't even know our slimming pills had such benefits! Are there any other effects?"

Fatty Di continued, "Yes! It can also treat mild gastroenteritis and regulate gut flora. And the most unexpected thing—something I couldn't even believe—is that the Sihai Slimming Pills also have the effect of clearing blood vessels."

The comments flooded:

"Are you insane? It’s getting more and more ridiculous. Why don't you just say this pill is an elixir from the heavens?"

"My god, even Zhao Bensan couldn't bluff as well as you."

"I am now representing the Nobel Committee to announce that this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine is awarded to all the researchers at Sihai Health. Please go collect your prize immediately."

"Report! Spouting nonsense in front of so many people—we must report this and permanently ban this harmful livestream."

"Do you dare to show us your medical report from the People's Hospital? If you show it, I'll believe you. If you can't, we’re reporting you!"
