“Wake up, sleepyhead, time to get up!” Wenxin’s voice drifted into Mingchuan’s ears, who was still fast asleep.

“What time is it? I’m so tired!” Mingchuan poked his head out from under the covers, but when he looked around, there was no one in sight.

“It’s already six o’clock! Hurry up and get out of bed to make something delicious for me!” Wenxin’s voice was faint and small, as if it came from inside the blankets. Mingchuan pulled the quilt aside a bit, only to find Wenxin hugging his waist, her legs wrapped around him like a serpent.

“Wenxin? Even if you say that, you’ll have to let me go first!” Her legs loosened, but she only moved closer. She seemed to treat Mingchuan’s face as food, licking and kissing it.

“Wenxin, stop it, please. I’ll go, isn’t that enough?” Mingchuan’s face was already flushed with embarrassment from Wenxin’s antics, but she only grew more mischievous.

“No need, you’ll be my dinner tonight!” With that, Wenxin crawled onto Mingchuan’s body, pressing her face close to his, sniffing his scent. Yet Mingchuan suddenly noticed her eyes weren’t open. A realization dawned on him.

“Wenxin, you’re not even awake, are you?” As expected, Wenxin didn’t reply.

“Mingchuan, you taste so good!” She even took a gentle bite, though not hard.

Mingchuan felt a bit nervous and carefully slipped out of bed, afraid to disturb Wenxin.

“Love you, Mingchuan!” Though it was just sleep talk, Mingchuan felt overjoyed. He smiled softly.

“We may be rivals probing each other, but in private, we’re in love. It’s just like that story!”

After speaking, Mingchuan went to the kitchen, becoming a chef. He found several ingredients—toast, ham, fresh spinach. He fried the ham in oil, then quickly sliced the toast, dividing it into several pieces and placing them in the oven to bake on low heat. As soon as they were in, he flipped the ham and brushed it with oil, then added water to a pot to steam the spinach. Once the ham was ready, Mingchuan took out the toast, laid it flat on a plate, topped it with spinach, placed the ham, squeezed on mayonnaise and other sauces, added more greens, and covered it with another piece of toast—thus, the sandwich was complete! (In truth, the author has never made this before.)

“The smell of roasted meat—is it steak?” Wenxin “floated” out from the room the moment she caught a whiff.

“Sorry, no steak today. Don’t worry, I’ll make it for you next time.” Mingchuan the chef presented his dish.

“Let me have a bite first!” Wenxin reached out to grab a piece, but Mingchuan stopped her.

“Go wash your hands!”

Though reluctant, Wenxin obediently washed her hands and returned.

“Not bad, you’ve improved!” Wenxin praised Mingchuan’s culinary skills, but Mingchuan sneaked behind her and hugged her.

“If you like it, I can cook for you for a lifetime.” Seeing Mingchuan’s gentle smile, Wenxin’s cheeks reddened.

“Don’t think you can win me over just with food.” Her voice grew softer as she spoke.

Noticing Wenxin’s blushing face, Mingchuan moved closer.

“What’s wrong, is it not allowed, Your Highness?”

“Your… Your Highness?” Wenxin suddenly grew nervous, but Mingchuan pressed on.

“Yes, Your Highness. In my heart, you’ll always be my princess. I wish to forever be your knight. Will you accept my protection?”

Mingchuan helped Wenxin turn around, then knelt on one knee, gently took Wenxin’s hand, and kissed it tenderly. The scene resembled a fairy tale: a prince proposing to a princess, and the princess…

“I will!” The princess accepted the prince’s request, and from then on, they lived happily ever after. (Not quite the author’s style.)

“Well then, Your Highness, I have matters to attend to. Please forgive me for leaving first!” Mingchuan grabbed a sandwich and prepared to leave the room. As he was departing, Wenxin said something she had never said before:

“Goodbye, Mingchuan. Love you!”

——— Author’s Note ———

This is actually a bit of a misstep for me, since I didn’t manage to finish writing this draft when I got home. I only finished it at school and published it immediately, so I apologize. Your knight offers his regrets!
