Chapter Thirty: Trust and Love—A New Clue Emerges
"Our Lei family is a wealthy merchant clan. My father is a member of the East Asian Economic Federation, and I am the eldest son. I have two younger brothers. If you don't believe me, you can come home with me after we return to our original world."
"Our family isn't hiding any secrets, though my second brother does covet the chance to inherit my father's position. Still, my father shows obvious favoritism toward the youngest, my third brother. We are in the military industry, manufacturing things like missiles. But I believe we should focus on cutting-edge military technology, like these mechas we have now. Because my father and I disagree on this, our relationship is quite strained, so..."
"So you want to prove yourself to your father?"
"Exactly. That's why I went to the library yesterday to research the future of the missile business. I discovered that our East Asia kept developing missiles, but when the Satan Crisis descended, missiles proved useless against Satan. Now, although some people in East Asia realize the importance of mechas, they're barely holding off the assault by relying on the terrain alone."
"It seems your views on advanced technology are quite sound. It's a pity you didn't inherit your father's position—if you had, East Asia's situation wouldn't be so dire."
"That's right. My idea is mecha technology, the path of Europa. My second brother is keen on electromagnetic technology, following Israel's path. My third brother sides entirely with my father, both enthusiastic supporters of the missile technology that’s most popular in East Asia. And now, as you can see, it's ended in disaster."
"Alright, we're on a date, but we're supposed to earn each other's trust. What are you really thinking?"
"Relax! I don't have any ulterior motives. Besides, didn't we already clear up the previous misunderstanding?"
"Did we?"
"Of course. Don't you trust me?" Mingchuan stepped closer to Wenxin and kissed her tenderly.
"Mingchuan, what's going on?"
"What’s wrong, are you unhappy?"
"No, it's just... you've never kissed me before!"
"Ah, that? What's the big deal? Didn't you kiss me before as well? Take it as proof of trust. After all, in a strange place like this, I can't really investigate your background, can I?"
"Alright then. Don’t worry, I have no way of looking into yours either."
At that moment, Mingchuan seemed to receive a message.
"What is it?"
"Oh, Tyron has finished the device I asked him to make. He wants me to go and inspect it. Do you want to come?"
Wenxin was a little uneasy, but since Mingchuan was willing to take her along, how could she refuse?
"Alright, you're here. Ah, Miss Wenxin is here too. That's fine, come and take a look." Tyron was surprised to see Wenxin, but since Mingchuan had brought her, it must be alright.
"It's... a four-wheel-drive motorcycle?" Wenxin was truly curious—why make such a thing?
"You must be wondering. Honestly, I just thought we'd need some sort of transport, so I asked Tyron to make it. Thank you, Dr. Tyron."
"It's nothing. Since the next step for mecha development is still unclear, working on something else for a change is fine. For convenience, the four-wheeler is equipped with a medical kit, a stretcher, and a portable generator."
"That’s not important! By the way, considering the speed of the logistics team, when are we heading to Israel?"
"Tomorrow, I think. That should be soon enough."
"Then could you help me load it onto the plane? Normally, people wouldn't be able to take such things, but you should be able to manage it. If you think of anything else it could use, message me! Wenxin, let's go!"
"Hey, you can’t just leave like that!"
Watching them walk away, Tyron finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Now I can openly send the signal, can’t I?"
--- Author’s Note ---
At last, I can write properly again, and fittingly, it’s Sunday. Why is it that most chapters are at 9 a.m. the next day, but this time is an exception? Actually, I wrote half of this on Friday, and nearly finished it yesterday—just a few tweaks now. In truth, I never revise much, but sometimes I save earlier ideas to use at a more fitting time.
