Chapter 106: East Alliance Hospital
December 28, 2237. Eastern Alliance, Kestan Campaign Base, Tarim Military Region General Hospital.
The battle was far from over, but for Mingchuan, that no longer mattered. Clad in his mechanical armor, he had sustained severe injuries during his clash with the strongest of the Satans. Though his body bore no obvious external wounds, his vital signs were alarmingly abnormal. The Eastern Alliance physicians had been forced to provide emergency stabilization, but Dr. Roger, a specialist from the United Kingdom, was personally overseeing his treatment remotely.
Outside the hospital, Wen Xin had been waiting for a long time. The most formidable opponent had fled; Mingchuan had clearly emerged victorious, so why had he collapsed? Such a battle, akin to a war between deities, was far beyond the scope of someone at her level to intervene. Mingchuan’s strength seemed tied to the appearance of Dracula—or perhaps, it was simply that Mingchuan only unleashed such power when faced with an adversary of absolute magnitude. In his daily life, he preferred to remain an ordinary man.
"What an idiot!" Despite her words, Wen Xin was truly grateful for Mingchuan’s intervention. She imagined that everyone who had participated in that battle felt the same way. "How troublesome! I hadn't even arrived yet, and that guy goes and gets himself into this state!" Suddenly, a familiar voice drifted toward the hospital entrance from behind her.
A physician in a white coat appeared, holding a tablet that faintly displayed the Wales insignia. "Director Roger?" Wen Xin recognized him, and the man reflexively glanced at her. "You’re the patient from that time, right? Wen Xin? I hope I remembered that correctly." Dr. Roger smiled and offered a greeting. "Director..." "Just 'Doctor' is fine!" Roger stopped, but was immediately grabbed by the sleeve by Wen Xin. "There’s no time for that! Mingchuan is in trouble, you have to save him!" Dr. Roger didn't resist much; after being tugged forward a few steps, he replied, "I thought you said it was His Highness Trexi? How did it become Colonel Mingchuan?"
"His Highness Trexi?" Wen Xin paused, recalling how the vampire Dracula had addressed Mingchuan during the fight. "I suppose that vampire kept calling Mingchuan 'Trexi,' so the people in the Eastern Alliance must have assumed it was His Highness." Her words clarified things for Roger. Although he knew Trexi and Mingchuan were one and the same, he still had to maintain the charade.
"I see. Let's go! Come with me!" Roger began to jog, and Wen Xin, momentarily stunned, quickly hurried after him. Because the Eastern Alliance "believed" the injured man was Trexi, they had placed him in the nearest room to facilitate the doctor's treatment and potential emergency transport. As they neared the room, Roger saw a black-haired woman standing before the glass, gazing silently inside. She wore a simple business suit, looking like a secretary to an official, and a ring glinted on the middle finger of her left hand.
"Is that her?" Roger muttered. When the woman noticed him and his companion, she immediately turned and walked in the opposite direction. "Who is she?" Wen Xin asked instinctively. "Kohl’s fiancée. I have no idea when they got engaged." Entering the room, Roger opened the door, though Wen Xin hesitated at the threshold.
"Come in! I know what I'm doing." Reassured, Wen Xin followed as Dr. Roger moved to Mingchuan’s bedside. "What’s wrong with him?" she asked impatiently. "Don't worry, his internal organs are essentially intact." "What does that mean?" "It means there’s nothing seriously wrong with his body!" Dr. Roger seemed to possess a special ability, assessing Mingchuan’s condition at a glance. "Then, his current state..." Wen Xin felt a wave of relief, but... "His only problem is severe muscle strain. While he will recover, he won't be combat-ready for at least a month of rest." Dr. Roger summarized the situation, though whether he was performing for the sake of the observers was another matter.
"A month?" Wen Xin processed this, a thought forming in her mind. "That's alright. I can go back and look after him."
"I would appreciate that!" Dr. Roger smiled and ceased his examination, though he first injected an electronic medication into Mingchuan’s vein. "However, it would be better if he were under the care of Wales. I’m planning to take him back to the United Kingdom now. Would you like to come?"
Wen Xin hesitated upon hearing this, but ultimately shook her head. "No, I have some matters to attend to. I’ll handle those first before returning."
